See the Monster Squirm

As most of you know, Republicans are reneging on their budget agreement and trying to slash social programs to keep military contractors profiting from cold war weapons systems that are not needed and in many cases, not even wanted by the military.  One key program to be slashed is Meals on Wheels.

9MealsA key House committee has voted to cut food aid, health care and social services like Meals on Wheels to protect the Pentagon from a crippling wave of budget cuts come January.

The cuts approved by the Republican-controlled panel total more than $300 billion over the coming decade.

They are but a fraction of the cuts called for in the broader, nonbinding budget plan that passed the House in March and are aimed at preventing the Pentagon from absorbing a 10 percent, $55 billion automatic budget cut in January that’s the result of the failure of last year’s deficit "supercommittee" to reach a deal…

Yes, the source here is very right-biased.  Just ignore the spin.

Meals on Wheels comes to my building every day, bringing good hot food to impoverished seniors who are unable to shop on their own.  In some cases, it’s their only meal.  Frankly, I was quite surprised that Joe Barton (R-TX) was willing to be interviewed by Martin Bashir.  See the monster squirm.

  1. Damm the Bastards– Curse them– May they themselves experience hunger and want—may they sit  , waiting for the only food they will have that day -to be delivered—May they hunger for the kind word the driver gives them , may they add a sweater in their cold room , unable to pay heating bills, May they have what they give others—God Damm them to Hell!!!!

  2. There is something that just doesn’t ring true here — Republican/Teabaggers never honour their commitments, yet this idiot says he is going to vote for the cuts because he previously committed to do so?!   … while party is dishonouring their agreement?!  Huh?????

Perhaps Olivier De Schutter, The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food who is currently in Canada, should visit the US and investigate these very actions in the Congress.

He and all the Republican/Teabaggers might squirm a little.  No, on the other hand, they are too arrogant and elitist to worry about some UN functionary.

    • Whenever the UN has the audacity to investigate the US over treaty violations, Republicans withhold our dues to them.

  3. People who receive Meals on Wheels and Food Stamps cannot contribute to campaign funds for Republicans.

  4. “We have to have an economy that’s growing and creates jobs…” ~ that’s from Lyin’ Joe Barton.  So why did you vote against every  bill that created jobs, raised taxes on the rich and ended the subsidies to Big oil and Agri-Biz? Must be they don’t affect our deficit.

Funny that they agreed to cut pentagon spending last summer when we were ready to default on our debts and now they’re shaking in their designer shoes.I think Pres. Obama knew exactly what he was doing when he came up with that “bargain” last year.
