GOPvoting

All over the nation, where Republicans control state legislatures, they are doing everything humanly possible to making it more difficult for Democrats to vote.  Republicans analyzed how Barack Obama won in 2008, and are targeting the populations responsible for his election.  In my research today I saw two video clips that highlight this abuse of power.

In the first, Lawrence O’Donnell interviews writer Ari Berman.

In the second, Rachel Maddow expounds on the issue in depth and interviews Gilbert Ortiz, Pueblo (CO) County Clerk.

Republicans are stacking the deck, because they know they can’t win fairly.  We need to keep fighting back!

  1. Three cheers for Gilbert Ortiz!!! He defied the order and sent absentee ballots to our military.

How dare they even think of obstructing their votes!

  2. Really amazing to watch some of the blatant cheating being done by the Repigs– Bet they cheat at  life in the same way they are trying to cheat with the political life of this country– all about control isn’t it- ? – if not by fair means than cheat- cheat cheat!! — The casinos kick out and ban cheaters— so now its past time to kick these cheaters out- of office to start with!!

  3. Why are there not consistent voting rules for federal elections?  Why does each state have the right to amend voting regulations for federal elections?

I can see that states might want their own state regulations, although for the life of me, I don’t know why.  But federal voting regulations and requirements should be consistent across the country to ensure fairness for all voters.

I agree that this is nothing more than Republicans knowing they can’t win fairly so they will fix the election.  I hope that the DOJ will kick their sorry asses right into oblivion.

Another point, the US should now remove itself from being an international election observer for other emerging democracies or be removed/prohibited by the UN since it can no longer guarantee the fairness of its own elections.  Having the Republicans perpetrating these shenanigans is criminal and grossly unethical.

Good on Gilbert Ortiz for standing up for voter rights.  I hope that the soldiers that get these ballots learn how he has defended their right to vote.  On the Rachel Maddow clip, there was a visual that said Ortiz was being sued for sending out the ballots.  I hope that this is unsuccessful.  This man has ethics and the US needs more like him.

    • Lynn, unless a power is specifically given to the federal government in our Constitution, it belongs to the states.

They should, but that’s what republicans do not want.

      I agree.

      Amen!
