From Reuters: Lawyers for 15 Muslims in the United States barred from boarding commercial flights because they were on the U.S. "no-fly" list will on Friday ask a federal appeals court to reinstate their constitutional challenge of the anti-terrorism measure.

The plaintiffs, who are U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents, said they learned they were on the list when prohibited, without advance warning, from boarding a commercial airliner, and were later denied any means of petitioning the government to be removed from the roster.

I favor the plaintiffs. They are likely to get a fair hearing, because this case will be heard here in Oregon.

From USA Today: The trial of Anders Behring Breivik was interrupted briefly Friday when the brother of one of his 77 victims hurled a shoe at the confessed mass killer and yelled, "Go to hell," before being escorted from the court room, police and witnesses said.

It was the first outburst from the normally subdued crowd watching the terror trial in Oslo’s district court since the proceedings began in mid-April.

Breivik — a self-styled, anti-Muslim militant — has been charged with terrorism, admitting he carried out a bomb-and-shooting rampage that stunned Norway on July 22.

That gives this terrorist something else in common with GW Bush. Don’t forget that The Republican Tea Party was trying to spread their racist dogma to Europe through their financial support for and association with Breivik.

From NY Times: Richard G. Lugar, one of the Senate’s longest-serving members, a collegial moderate who personified a gentler political era, was turned out of office on Tuesday, ending a career that had spanned the terms of half a dozen presidents.

r. Lugar, a six-term senator from Indiana who had won most of his recent elections with more than 60 percent of the vote, lost a hard-fought Republican primary to Richard E. Mourdock, the state treasurer. Mr. Mourdock’s campaign was fueled by Tea Party groups and national conservative organizations that deemed Mr. Lugar too willing to compromise and poured millions of dollars into the campaign to defeat him.

Mourdock defines “bipartisanship” as making Democrats accept Republican positions.  We can beat this creep.

From WNCT: Amendment one passed Tuesday with 61 percent of the vote, legally defining marriage in North Carolina as between one man and one woman, but gay and lesbian couples are still demanding the right to marry.

Same-sex couples will ask for for marriage licenses in Wilson and Durham Wednesday, the start of a week-long campaign protesting their inability to wed.

This state amendment violates the 14th Amendment guaranteeing all citizens equal protection under the law.  Although Republicans say this is just democracy in action, their argument is bogus, because we don.t get to vote on each others’ rights.  Imagine, if you will, the Republican response to a hypothetical amendment denying the right to marry to Republican supply-side pseudo-Christians.

Today my UPS is out on the truck for delivery by UPS, so I will get it and have a lot of work to do setting it up and configuring it.  I’m current on replies.  Tomorrow I have a month’s grocery delivery coming.  Unpacking it and putting it away always tales several hours, so my articles could be late.

Even a cursory examination of the facts makes it clear that it is Romney who is The Punisher. His policies, if enacted, will punish a broad spectrum of Americans from almost every possible constituent group.

From WSBT: Arizona Governor Jan Brewer on Friday signed into law a bill banning abortion providers like Planned Parenthood from receiving money through the state, her office said in a statement.

The Republican-backed Whole Woman’s Health Funding Priority Act cuts off funding for family planning and health services delivered by Planned Parenthood clinics and other organizations offering abortions.

And the Republican War on Women continues.

From The White House: After signing an agreement that details our future relationship with Afghanistan, President Obama explains that we must now focus on the type of nation our troops return home to, and calls on Congress to take the money we are no longer spending at war, use half of it to pay down our debt, and use the other half to rebuild America.

Although I think we should be withdrawing from Afghanistan MUCH more quickly, we certainly need to use the money to rebuild America.
