In April, Politics Plus ran well behind March’s record setting performance.  We can’t be stars every month, and it was still a good solid month.

Here are our basic stats:

vv4-11

Here is our most recent Clustrmap, last updated on April 28.

map4-11

Our Clustrmap reset the morning of 2/28, starting over from scratch, so the above map represents just two months’ traffic. The largest circles represent over 1,000 visits.  The tiniest represent one to ten.

Our durations were up from 170 seconds last month:

That’s expected, because we also had fewer drive-by visitors.

There are two extra due to a three way tie for 15th.  There’s some linkey-love in return  The best ways you can publicize Politics Plus is to use the share button at the bottom of each post to list our articles on the the sites where you belong, and to quote PP articles on your own blogs.  The operative commandment here is “thou shalt steal.”  We’re on the same side here, so I won’t mind.  Even if you want to repost a whole article, that’s OK.  Just link back, please.  Also, feel free to swipe the graphics.

We have a new feature occasioned by a new plugin.  Our top 10 commenters are:

The widget is in the right column.  I don’t count, as I’m the resident big mouth.  Those who leave their URLs in their comments, get linkey love.  The extra one is because Pope Jack hasn’t decided who he is. 😉

Technorati was even stranger last month.  Our global authority is up, but politics is down, US politics is down, and they stopped rating us on World.  Sadly, we’re back to the B list.  I still have absolutely no idea why.

    • Global 467 (rank 3,566)
    • US politics 473 (rank 282)
    • Politics 456 (rank 506)

We have 376,576 links on other websites, well up from 289,640 last month.

We have 2,258 posts and 17,197 comments, as of midnight 5/1.

We have new wacky avatars, and I’ll change them each month, but I recommend your own avatar. Go to Gravatar.  Sign up using the email address you use to post comments here and upload the image you want to use.  Whenever you comment under that e mail address here or on any WordPress blog (several others too), that will be your avatar.

After the stunning numbers last month, this month’s  decrease surprise.  We did not have a viral article. Things often drop off at the beginning of Spring, and I trust this month will be better.  Your participation is what makes this blog worth reading, not to mention worth writing.  Thank you all for all you do.

Here are the results of the “will Obama walk the walk” poll.

Poll0501

And here are your comments.

From Lisa G. on April 24, 2011 at 11:31 pm

He caved once on the tax cuts for the rich. If he caves again, I’m voting for Abraham Lincoln as a write in.

clip_image001

I know he’s dead, but even a dead guy could do a better job than a Repub.

From SoftBear in reply to Lisa G. on April 25, 2011 at 9:50 am

Er, Lincoln was the first Republican President…

From Realist in reply to SoftBear on April 27, 2011 at 7:33 pm

And the last. Every president since Lincoln who claims the GOP mantle is a blatant corporatist.

From Linda on April 20, 2011 at 2:05 pm.

I hope he implements the health care quality and access that he described pre election. He would also do well to make Social Security unassailable for the future if he has the chance in his second term. He should not give way on issues with negative consequences for the middle class, the prime realistic arena of "American dream aspirations."

The results form an interesting spread.  The second and third largest groups are the Obamaphiles, for whom Obama can do no wrong, and the Obamaphopes, for whom Obama can do no right.  I disagree with both extremes.  Overall the trend was more favorable than not.

I voted with the plurality that I am hopeful, but uncertain.  As much as I want to believe, there have been too many cave-ins on too many key issues.

Our next poll goes back to picking on Republicans, because they deserve it.

17000-Mark

Congrats to The Walking Man for posting the 17,000th comment here at Politics Plus.  Mark was one of the readers here, going back over five years.  He has stayed through two versions on blogger and our current incarnation here.  Mark is a stellar poet, and somewhat of an enigma in that regard, because he skillfully displays most delicate sensitivity and feeling within a visceral earthy style.  To read his work, visit The Walking Man.

Here are the results of the Greatest Crisis poll:

Poll0416

And here are your comments:

From John on April 15, 2011 at 1:13 pm

population growth is the greatest crisis facing the world today

From TWM on April 1, 2011 at 4:53 am

Republicans can still be removed from office but we are at or near the tipping point of climate change, where if we do not find ways to release some heat from the environment, party affiliation will not matter in 100 years.

From SoINeedAName on March 31, 2011 at 3:00 pm

Teapublicans: Because other than the Earthquake/Tsunami, it subsumes all the other choices – either in whole or in part

The Republican Party was a runaway winner.  I voted with the majority and Nameless described the reason in his content.  With the exception of Japan’s crisis, the Republican party makes all of the other problems worse.

The new poll is on Obama’s intentions.  Enjoy and VOTE!

16500-Lisa

Congrats to Lisa G for posting the 16,500th comment here at Politics Plus.  Lisa used to dominate this award before we moved to our own domain and has won it three times since, but she’s been MIA for awhile.  I feared we might even have to replace her as our resident pink princess with Jack! ;-)  I’m most pleased to see Lisa win this, and I’m sure Jack is too! 😀

Technorati was strange again last month.  In spite of great statistical record our authority is down in Global and World, but up in Politics and US Politics.  Globally, we’re back to the B list.  I still have absolutely no idea why.

I have to admit that the stunning numbers we have this month caught me by surprise.  We did have one somewhat viral article.  My evaluation of Obama’s Libya speech had over 10,000 views.  I haven’t been doing anything different, so as I see it, the difference has to be you.  Your participation is what makes this blog worth reading, not to mention worth writing.  Congratulations and thank you.

Well, to be honest – I was looking for the (and I’ll be PG here) "Really Doesn’t Matter in the Larger Scheme of Things"

I did not vote, because I have a custom avatar.  You can get a custom avatar made from an image of your choice at Gravatar.  It costs nothing.

The new poll should be more interesting.

16000-JackJodell

Congrats to Jack for posting the 16,000th comment here at Politics Plus.  That’s two in a row and four out of the last six! Jack goes back years as a loyal reader, prolific responder, and religious icon (He’s still our honorary Pope.) He is also writes an excellent blog that has moved since he last won this, so you can find him at The Saturday Afternoon Post, now running on WordPress.
