Marva

Dasef is a solid progressive and a fellow Oregonian.  She was one of the first at Politics Plus when I first set it up on Blogger ten years ago.  This is her third Big Mouth Award, having posted the 8,500th comment on 7/18/2012 and the 14,000th comment on 1/17/2011.  Marva is also a published and very talented author, who out of kindness, has donated copies of her books to the guys in prison for whom I volunteer.  Her work is excellent.  I have personally purchased one of her books in paperback and one on Kindle and found both most enjoyable.  You can find her at her website.  Congrats, Marva!

The good people of Wisconsin didn’t endure the rain/shine/sleet/snow, knocking on doors, just to let a low, down, dirty politician, continue to destroy the hopes and dreams for millions of Wisconsin’s citizens! Barrett will win!

If Walker stays in because the citizens of Wisconsin are lazy ignorant, they get what the billionaires paid for.. but I still hope the Unions real patriots get it done!

No. The Koch brothers’ money and power are behind Walker. Wisconsin is doomed.

Posted by Lynn Squance on May 29, 2012 at 12:01 pm

It will be a black day for Wisconsin, and EVERY state in the union, if Walker is not recalled! It will be construed as "money talks" and will deflate people, making positive action against the GOP tyranny very, very difficult. It would be interesting to see just how deep the billionaire pockets are if more GOPers were to follow Walker. The rules around election financing MUST be tightened up dramatically — out with Citizens United; no out of state financing for local state elections; full disclosure of ALL political donations.

Posted by Infidel753 on May 26, 2012 at 6:15 am

The polls aren’t looking good, and the lack of support from the national Democratic party is a disgrace, but this is so important that the unions will be going all out. If you can, donate. I have.

God, I hope so!

The race is way too close right now. If you have a few bucks to spare send it to the Wisconsin Recall group. There are several ways to do it. Just don’t get caught by a fake site. I believe unitedwisconsin.com is okay or go through ActBlue. They also take donations for Alan Grayson.

Posted by nana in reply to Marva on June 5, 2012 at 2:22 pm

It would be better to go to Tom Barrett web site because I tried to donate at act blue yesterday and it didn’t go through.

Everybody needs to give whatever they can, to wisconsin and the Obama campaigns. It’s extremely important for all so-called concerned Americans to donate to political campaigns. To counter act Citizen United we must support Liberal/Democratic Senators, Represenatives.

Let me add, according to Thom Hartmann (and I have not looked into this any further at this time) Walker has gone down to Texas and picked up about $25 million to fight his recall from oil billionaires. Hartmann believes that the recall is a test case by republicans to see how much it costs to flood the news media and airwave with sufficient propaganda to win the election. It should be interesting because the Walker opposition cannot begin to match that kind of money.

Posted by Jerry Critter on May 18, 2012 at 2:36 pm

I hope he is recalled, but I think it will be close and it will not surprise me if he is retained.

I voted with the majority.  OOPS!  I guess we underestimated the stupidity of US voters.

Please don’t forget to vote in the new poll.

Here’s some linkey-love in return  The best ways you can spread the message to others is to use the share button at the bottom of each article to list our articles on the the networking sites where you belong. Quote PP articles on your own blogs also helps.  The operative commandment here is “thou shalt steal.”  We’re on the same side here, and I encourage it.  Even if you want to repost a whole article, that’s OK.  Just link back, please.  Also, feel free to swipe my graphics in the articles.  If they are labeled with our Politics Plus URL, they are my work.

We have 541,208 links on other websites.

We have all but disappeared from Technorati. Despite over half a million links, Technorati only recognizes links on sites that have registered at Technorati.  Because we had so much traffic on Buzzflash.net, a registered site, we used to be an A list blog.  Buzzflash.net is gone and with the slowdown, we’re back to B list.  If Care2 were to register with Technorati, we’d be in fat city.

We have 3,416 articles and 51,730 comments, as of midnight 6/1.

I recommend using your own avatar. Go to Gravatar.  Sign up using the email address you use to post comments here and upload the image you want to use.  Whenever you comment under that email address here or on any WordPress blog (several others too), that image will be your avatar.

Your participation remains a major part of what makes this blog worth reading, not to mention worth writing.   Politics Plus exists to help end right-wing insanity and send the Republican Party the way of the Whigs.  Thank you all for all you do, here and elsewhere, to help make that happen.  Together we will make a difference.

Here is our biggest problem  Reddit, the site that generated most of our referrals, has instituted a policy that bloggers must post at least 90% of the articles they send to Reddit from sources other than our own blogs.  That replaced an agreement I had with the moderators to post 50/50.  Digg has a similar policy.  We can get excellent traffic from those sites, but I cannot be the one to send the articles.  If you have an account with either, I would certainly appreciate it if you would post the articles you consider worthy from here.

Our current rut is my responsibility, and I hope my health permits me to return to daily blogging.

They even spin their failures as successes, then tout them excessively.

Posted by Lynn Squance on May 2, 2012 at 5:32 pm

Being north of the 49th and not having television, I voted ‘occasionally’. I was thinking more of the current crop of Greedy Old Pharts! With these guys, they have to articulate a foreign policy first and I have heard nothing except Manifest Destiny from Mr Flip-flop, Rmoney.

As to the previous crop of GOP, I would vote ‘excessively’ to a point of distraction. But no matter how you frame it, or sugar coat it, or wrap it up in the flag, their foreign policy is about making money for the military industrial complex. They try to wrap it up in values, but all they end up doing is wrapping it up in the value of money.

I voted with the majority. For Republicans to even claim successes is excessive, because they paint their failures as success, and real Democratic successes as failure.

Patty is a regular, and you’ll find her excellent comments on virtually every article, almost every day.  She comes to us from Care2.  This is her second Big Mouth Award, having also posted the 28,000th comment in January.  One of Patty’s claims to fame is still that she is a MAJOR Jig Zone predator.  Once upon a time, she used to complain that she would never be good enough to beat the average.  Now she beats my tail with even more exasperating regularity! 🙁

Here are the results of the George Zimmerman poll.

Poll0502

And here are your comments.

Posted by Cosmo on May 1, 2012 at 3:12 pm

America loves the death penalty. It’s Government legally executes more of its own citizen than almost anywhere else (I wouldn’t call Syria’s treatment of its citizens legal, if you see what I mean), so how did this guy avoid that?

Posted by Lisa G. on April 30, 2012 at 1:00 pm

I think that charge is right. But WTF is a community watch commander doing running around with a friggin TEC 9 – those guns have no other value that to kill humans. He shouldn’t be armed all!! Now an innocent boy is dead just for walking through his neighborhood. Zimmerman is a human shithead who shouldn’t even have the right to have a gun, much less a concealed gun license. I’m also with Marva – let the jury have a choice because that’s so much better than a not guilty. You never can tell with juries – remember OJ?

Posted by Angelica on April 30, 2012 at 8:41 am

Doesn’t the fact that Zimmerman stalked Martin after being told not to indicate pre-meditation? I don’t know, but I think it could.

Posted by Lynn Squance on April 19, 2012 at 7:42 pm

As I understand, in order to prove 1st degree murder, the prosecution would have to prove premeditation and they can’t. This was a crime of opportunity in that Trayvon Martin was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Zimmermann was told not to pursue by the police dispatcher but ignored this and as a result, a young man is dead that should not be. Anything less than 2nd degree murder, is in my opinion, a slap in the face of justice! My fear is that somehow, it will be jiggled down to a lesser charge and that will be just as big a crime.

Posted by Marva on April 18, 2012 at 4:57 pm

My concern when first announced is that it didn’t allow for lesser included charges. If he gets a sympathetic jury, they shouldn’t be forced to find him not guilty, when they could choose manslaughter or negligent homicide. Neither of those are sufficient, but they’d be way better than a not guilty.

Posted by Yvonne White on April 17, 2012 at 4:11 pm

1st degree is premeditated..so Zimmerman should get 2nd degree and FAUX News should be charged with 1st degree..

clip_image001

I voted with the majority.  Premeditation may have been a factor, but would be virtually impossible to prove.

Vote in the new poll, just posted today.

From MoveOn: This Astounding Conflict Of Interest Might Cost Us The Affordable Care Act

Now you know why I call him Teabugger Thomas.

From Washington Post: Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels of Indiana thought long and hard before deciding not to run for president. Now, with Mitt Romney the likely nominee, he’s professing no interest in joining the GOP ticket as a vice presidential candidate.

Daniels says that if Romney came calling, Daniels would “demand reconsideration” and send Romney a list of people he thinks would be better suited for the job.

I think it likely that all the serious choices will bail, as Daniels and Bush have, leaving Switch Hit Mitt with an even more  vulnerable running mate.

From Huffington Post: Former Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Lieberman won’t say whom he’s supporting in November.

"I’m going to try to stay out of this one," Lieberman told Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday." Lieberman, an independent senator from Connecticut who caucuses with Democrats, controversially endorsed John McCain (R-Ariz.) over Barack Obama in the 2008 election.

I bet he just wants to be an equal opportunity lobbyist, feigning allegiance to both sides of the aisle.  This SOB breaks the despicability scale.
