Lynn has now won her seventh Big Mouth Award.  For over a year she has been our top commentator, and is also one of only two people, other than myself, that I have authorized to post articles here.  Lynn is a denizen of Care2, and is still a Canadian, unfortunately for the US.  I’ve said this before, but it still bears repeating.  If 10% of US citizens had half, or if half of US citizens had 10% of the knowledge of and insight into US politics that this Canadian gal regularly displays, our country would be far better off.  Congrats Lynn!  She is a treasure, whose contribution to this site cannot be overstated.  Please join me in giving her even more of the kudos she so richly deserves.

Here are the results of our How Long Will the Republican Shutdown Last Poll.  Politics Plus Polls are not scientific, because those who respond are not balanced according to demographic categories.   Therefore, we do not accurately reflect the makeup of the US population.  Nevertheless, our polls are often accurate.

I think they don’t CARE at this point (not quite a week) and I don’t expect them to grow a brain any time soon – unless Darth Cheney sends in his Storm Troopers to tweak the perps!

These disgusting (mostly) Republicans/ Teabaggers don’t give a ^&#@ how they harm the country/economy/individuals as long as they wield their power and retain their exorbitant salaries. If this shut-down included loss of their $$, we can be assured it wouldn’t last long. I wish Obama would go ahead and somehow find out how to make that happen.

I’d love to be wrong, but I’m sure they are just spoiled enough to hold their breath until they turn blue before they notice nobody cares, and then do it again, and again.

Well since I learned that the Republians are nothing more un-American brats I would have to say 1to3 months but that is being hopeful. They will bring down the country before they work with Obama. So this could take until the 2014 elections before anything is done. After all Obama has done this and he needs to be punished. How sick they are. On the other side of the coin Obama has done everything to work with these brats. Now is the time to show just what jerks the republican/tea party are. This is war

I hope that I am wrong and the shut down lasts less than a week, but I won’t hold my breath. The Republican/Teabaggers are not known for being enlightened thinkers . . . just ideologues who can’t find their way out of a wet paper bag! They care nothing for the millions upon millions of American lives that they negatively impact. Republican/Teabaggers are domestic terrorists without doubt, willing to hold the nation hostage at all costs.

I voted 1 week to 1 month, just to clarify my statement.

I choose one week to one month, because I predicted that Republicans would cave-in as long as Democrats did not do so first.  Most of us got it right.

The new poll questions a repeat performance.  Don’t forget to vote!

This is Richard’s second Big Mouth Award in a row, after nothing in daily participation for well over a year here.  Not much has changed, since since he won it on September 12.  His comments are still pithy, and his humor, still off the wall off the wall, making him a good fit here.  A few days ago he beat my Jig-Zone time, and he finally admitted to bringing us a bunch of traffic from Stumbleupon.  Please join me in congratulating this welcome progressive activist!

Richard, I know you’re also active on Care2 and the folks there asked you to comment in this thread there to take a bow.  Would you do so there this time?

In September Politics Plus stayed about the same, gaining in three monthly categories and losing in three.

Here is our latest summary:

usage9-2013

Stats9-2013

In the monthly totals, a Site is any website from which someone accessed our server, a Hit is every access attempt to our server, and a File is every access attempt to our server that returned data.  The difference between Hits and Files is from access attempts that were sent in error or damaged in transit and failed attempts by hackers, spammers, phishers, and Republicans to access the back end and take control of the site.  Any questions?

Here is our latest Clustrmap:

CMap9-2013

Our map was archived in February, so what you see is from March 1.

Here are are top five articles:

Hillary? Gay?!!?                               9/21/2013    4,900 Targets

Jane Smiley: Capitalist Pigs              1/17/2010       875 Targets

Pseudo-Christian Blood Diamonds     9/12/2013      388 Targets

Arctic Sunrise Seized                        9/21/2013      365 Targets

A Republican Freedom                      9/24/2013      363 Targets

These are the times that people came from an external site with the specific purpose of reading these articles.  I’m a bit disappointed that it took an article about Republican bigots questioning Hillary’s sexuality to get such a high draw, when so many more informative articles are available here,

There are two extra, because we had a tie for 15th.  Every time we link to their sites, it increases their ratings, so here’s some linkey-love in return.  The best ways you can spread the message to others is to use the share button at the bottom of each article to list our articles on the the networking sites where you belong. Quote PP articles on your own blogs also helps.  The operative commandment here is “thou shalt steal.”  We’re on the same side here, and I encourage it.  Even if you want to repost a whole article, that’s OK.  Just link back, please.  Also, feel free to swipe my graphics in the articles.  If they are labeled with our Politics Plus URL, they are my work.

We have 1,341,769 links on other websites, a small increase.

Our Technorati rating is up from 437 to 481, very high on the B List, almost to the A list, and they rate us as the 2973rd most influential blog in the world, up from 3,206th last month.  These ratings yo-yo and do not depend on our traffic or our overall links, but only links on sites registered with and recognized by Technorati.  If only Care2 would register their front page news with Technorati, we’d be A list again every month.

As of Midnight, October 1, we have 4,459 articles and 46,820 comments.

Republicans have shut down the government.  They depend on deceiving the American people that the Republican Shutdown is the Democrats’ fault, or at least that both parties are equally to blame.  Our work must be to inform as many people as we can, so Republicans cannot get away with their lies. Thank you for everything you do.  Our success is your success, and thank you for making it so.

I am so fed up with all this. I really hope that with the next interim election, the PEOPLE will finally get these obstructive politicians out of Congress and the Senate!

Posted by Sharon Hamrick  September 23, 2013 at 6:50 am.

No matter what happens, WE, THE PEOPLE, will be the ones to lose. The powers that be have enough money to survive a shutdown. Hope to see some good come from this. Guess I’m an eternal optimist.

Posted by Lynn Squance  September 21, 2013 at 2:03 am.

I would hope that the Republican/Teabaggers would find the balls to support the country, and not the abyss in which to destroy it!

Republican/Teabaggers are snake oil salesmen and hucksters whose only concern is their own power, control and greed. Their attitude towards the potential government shutdown and the debt ceiling shows that they should be charged with sedition, because their actions, if they follow through on their rhetoric, will result in civil unrest.

Both – Debt Default and/or Govt. Shutdown

clip_image004

I was one of the many who voted Both.  We were at least half right, although in this case, I would have preferred to be wrong on both.  The House Republicans should openly declare war on the American people, so they could legally be charged with treason.  As it is they are guilty of sedition.

Vote in the new poll quickly.  I hope it will not be up very long.

Although I will stand behind what ever decision President Obama makes. I am not sure any he even knows what he will do. But he is not all talk or is he war hungry. He is President and he feels that all people have rights no matter what color what country or what party they belong to.

Posted by Yvonne White  September 1, 2013 at 4:16 pm.

I’m glad he decided to wait on CONgre$$ – might as well spread the blame. But I’m afraid they will okay bombing & droning.

Posted by Lynn Squance  September 1, 2013 at 3:17 pm.

I’d like to say that everything is just rhetoric, all talk. But I fear with a GOP dominated Congress, that will not be the case. Personally, I’d like to see a diplomatic solution, but with Russia pulling Al-Assad’s strings, and Iran playing the fiddle, that isn’t likely to happen. And then of course, both Russia and China have vetos on the UN Security Council so a diplomatic solution involving the UN is not likely to happen. All vetos on the Security Council should be relegated to the dust bin because they impede action when action is needed, no matter if that action is more diplomatic or sanctions, or war. I am NOT in favour of war.

Mr Obama has sent an action proposal to the Congress with documentation out-lining the information that he has. A vote will be taken by the Congress to "yea or nay" his proposed action. This is an astute move politically because it keeps the GOP dominated Congress in the responsibility loop. How will the Congress vote is another question. Will the GOP blood lust for war show forth or will they appear to obstruct the POTUS? Or will they come back with amendments to his plan?

As I understand, there is no declaration of war within Obama’s proposed plan, so any action other than talk, could be taken as an act of aggression and therefore subject the US to international sanction and I am sure that Russia would be only too glad to lead that fight. I really don’t trust Mad Vlad Putin.

I think, as far as the Congress is concerned, will obstruction trump profits? The decision that will come from the Congress is likely more about the US and the "what’s in it for me" question, than what the Syrian people need and want.

I guess wait and see.

Bombs and Cruise missiles when Congress oops, just talk.

Posted by gene jacobson  September 1, 2013 at 8:50 am.

I am voting bombs, but I am hoping not. No troops, no more death dealing. It is far too late after the fact to now be acting like we have the high moral ground here. Now if he were to attack the arms dealers, that I’d support, they, after all are the guilty parties here. The ones who make and sell the weapons – including US, have the most blood on their hands of all.

Posted by Patty  September 1, 2013 at 5:02 am.

I am voting with my heart and hopes. Please be true. We don’t need another war.

Posted by Edith Belcher  August 31, 2013 at 9:53 pm.

I think he will be like the rest, he won’t stop at using bombs and cruise controlled missiles. We are the most war hungry nation in the world

clip_image003

I did not vote with the majority, this time.  I voted “just talk”, because I figured Obama was too smart a guy to embark on a policy guaranteed to fail.  I said nothing, at the time, because nobody else had publically surmised that he was bluffing, and did not want to tip his hand.

Some Republicans, those not running in highly sequestered districts, are already trying to appear more reasonable, before the 2014 elections.  They know that a large segment of the voting public recognize that Republicans are sabotaging America, see the handwriting on the wall, and fear for their political futures.  Our work will be to keep educating as many people as we can, so Republicans cannot get away with their deception, like they did in 2010.  Thank you for everything you do.  Our success is your success, and thank you for it.
