Were this to happen in any other state Than Texas … or North Carolina … or Wisconsin, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, or other states, where Republicans lied their way into complete control, I might believe this is the individual officers’ doing, and perhaps it is anyway.  But in those states where the primary Republican emphasis has not been the promised jobs, but has centered on what goes on between women’s legs, the following crimes fit the Republican pattern.

7republicans-in-your-vaginaA pair of videos posted online show police probing the genitals and anal regions of three women they claim to suspect of possessing marijuana. In one video, a woman is seen bent over and grimacing as an off camera police officer conducts the search. Shortly before this search, a male officer explains to the woman that he is calling a female officer over “because I ain’t about to get up close and personal with your woman areas.”

The videos depict two vehicle stops, one for speeding and another for littering. In both videos, a male officer asks the women if they have any marijuana in the vehicle, suggesting that the purpose of their search is to find evidence of this drug. At one point, immediately before conducting her search of a woman’s genitals, a female officer warns the woman that if she “hid something in there, we’re going to find it.”

These searches almost certainly violate the Constitution. Although police do have broad latitude to search a vehicle when they have probable cause to believe that they will uncover contraband within, it is quite a stretch to extend these precedents to this most intimate of searches. As the Supreme Court explained in a 2009 decision regarding a student who was strip searched by school administrators, “both subjective and reasonable societal expectations of personal privacy support the treatment of such a search as categorically distinct, requiring distinct elements of justification on the part of school authorities for going beyond a search of outer clothing and belongings.”…

Here are the videos:

There was no justification for these searches.  “I smelled marijuana” is to police, as “The check is in the mail” is to deadbeats, or as “I’m telling the truth” is to Republicans.  These are acts of intimidation and humiliation that fit the war on women in Republican Regimes.  If, fact, given their disrespect for women and their privacy, perhaps the GOP should be renamed as the GOPP.

Writing for tomorrow, day 54, I’m quite drained.  It reached 101° at my desk yesterday.  That has dropped to 86°, but the sun just hit the “breezeway” so it will skyrocket.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:01 (average 5:41).  To do it, click here.  How did you do? (Dang dawg!) 😉

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker:As House Republicans began their five-week summer vacation, their leader, House Speaker John Boehner, urged them to rest up for “the many symbolic and meaningless votes that lie ahead.”

Mr. Boehner, while congratulating his colleagues on having voted to repeal Obamacare forty times, reminded his fellow-Republicans that their work is “far from over.”

This really is humor and satire. REALLY! You don’t believe me? That’s OK.  On this, I wouldn’t either!

From NY Times: Wendy Davis, the Texas state senator who captured the national spotlight with an 11-hour filibuster against restricting abortion rights, turned up in Washington on Monday with the news that she was considering a run for governor.

“I can say with absolute certainty that I will run for one of two offices: either my State Senate seat or the governor,” Ms. Davis said after a luncheon and speech at the National Press Club.

This could be Texas’ only opportunity in the near future to put forward a Democrat with a high enough profile to have a good shot at winning. Because the whole state votes for Governor, Republicans can’t Gerrymander the job.

Cantor earned another BS in Billshitology. Elections like Detroit’s are what Republicans plan for us all, one’s that are for show only.

RepublicansOnParade2

Here is the sixteenth article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is Ted Cruz (R-TX), for his absurd statement on shutting down the federal government, in addition to being a master of TEAbuggery.

6CruzControl!Tea Party members of Congress like Sen. Ted Cruz are threatening to shut down the federal government in an effort to defund health care reform while, simultaneously, attempting to place the blame for any such shut down on President Obama.

Obviously, pulling that off successfully will require the creation of some pretty ingenious arguments, one of which Cruz tried out last week when he was interviewed on Newsmax TV where he asserted that the term "shut down is a misnomer; what it in fact is is a partial, temporary shut down" where "nonessential government functions are temporarily suspended…

Here’s the video:

Republicans cannot disclaim this fascist. After all, he’s one of their Senators. As for his veracity about the effects of a shutdown, even Republican Governors are begging House Republicans not to shut it down. There’s a word for it. Bulls love to do it. Bears do it in the woods, and Cruz must think his doesn’t stink, or he wouldn’t be serving it up like this.

As I write at 9:45 AM for day 53, the temperature at my desk is at today’s inside low, 90°  UGH!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:44 (average 5:30).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From NY Times: …In other words, Republicans, confronted with the responsibilities of governing, essentially threw a tantrum, then ran off to sulk.

How did the G.O.P. get to this point? On budget issues, the proximate source of the party’s troubles lies in the decision to turn the formulation of fiscal policy over to a con man. Representative Paul Ryan, the chairman of the House Budget Committee, has always been a magic-asterisk kind of guy — someone who makes big claims about having a plan to slash deficits but refuses to spell out any of the all-important details. Back in 2011 the Congressional Budget Office, in evaluating one of Mr. Ryan’s plans, came close to open sarcasm; it described the extreme spending cuts Mr. Ryan was assuming, then remarked, tersely, “No proposals were specified that would generate that path.”

What’s happening now is that the G.O.P. is trying to convert Mr. Ryan’s big talk into actual legislation — and is finding, unsurprisingly, that it can’t be done. Yet Republicans aren’t willing to face up to that reality. Instead, they’re just running away.

It surprised me that this subject even came up on Faux Noise! We only got a small part of the exchange, but I’m betting Wallace goose-stepped to whatever Cantor replied. The Bagger demand of McConnell is Loony Toons, telling Bought Bitch Mitch to be a man. that won’t happen in our lifetime. Don’t you love Cantor’s immigration reform. Leave kids here, on their own, when their parents are deported. As bad as it is for the country, during the years this takes, the Republican Party appears to be going the way of the Whigs.

From Think Progress: Unusually hot, dry weather in Alaska is wreaking havoc on fisheries, as thousands of fish perish in overheated waters. Last month, 1,100 king salmon died on their way up to the Crystal Lake hatchery due to water temperatures around 80 degrees Fahrenheit and lack of oxygen. That’s the bulk of the 1,800 adult salmon that were expected to return to the hatchery this season.

Earlier in the summer, another hatchery lost hundreds of grayling and rainbow trout in a Fairbanks lake where water temperatures reached 76 degrees. Alaska’s heat wave broke records last week, with 14 days straight above 70 degrees in Anchorage and 31 days of 80 degrees in Fairbanks.

Soon Mooseolini will claim that she can see Bermuda from her front porch.

They provided a wealth of material for Republicans to ignore!

The Republican leadership goose-stepped into the House chamber, shortly before attending to what Republicans do best: vacation.  They expected easy passage on a measure in support of one of their two goals: the transfer of wealth from the poor and middle classes to billionaires.  Much to their chagrin, hardly anyone showed up.

RyanBendOverAmid the morass of Washington’s endless budget fights there was a moment of sweet revelation last week: House Republicans choked outright when they failed to muster support for the draconian dreams of Paul Ryan, the Wisconsin legislator and fabled budget hawk who last year ran for vice president on a program of unforgiving fiscal austerity that his colleagues suddenly found too politically risky.

A $44 billion measure based on the tooth-and-claw Ryan blueprint approved by the same House just three months ago had to be yanked from the floor when not enough Republicans showed up to vote yes. An embarrassed leadership was forced to concede that the size of the proposal’s cuts to transportation, housing and urban development had become intolerable even to the fiscal zealots among the rank and file, who no longer had the stomach to walk the austerity talk.

The embarrassment was deserved. The leadership offered hollow excuses about a tight legislative calendar, but the truth was more accurately explained by Harold Rogers, the Republican appropriations chairman and no slouch as a budget hawk. The frustrated lawmaker underlined the moment by noting: “The House has made its choice: sequestration — and its unrealistic and ill-conceived discretionary cuts — must be brought to an end.”

The retreat hardly settled the larger budget wars, which remain noxious. The Republicans have not abandoned their threats to bring government to a halt, to stage-manage another federal debt crisis, and, of course, to fiscally strangle the law of the land known as Obamacare… [emphasis added]

Inserted from <NY Times>

I disagree with the author’s contention that Harold Rogers (R-NC) explained this correctly. In my opinion, the key factor was timing. Even the "fiscal zealots among the rank and file" feared going home for summer recess and having to explain their support of 1% greed to local residents, even conservative ones, whose lives and livelihoods will be impaired by the damage the cuts would do to transportation, housing and urban development. So instead of voting, they used the Republican method, also known as the cowards’ way out.  They snuck out of town.

Ryan does not care who he hurts, as he goose-steps behind Ayn Rand. He even held a budget hearing on poverty with no input from poor people, as Melissa Harris Perry explains in her open letter to him.

When it comes to opinions, Paul Ryan, and the Republican Party, measure their value by one metric alone: the net worth of the person who has the opinion. This is true, because Republicans equate financial worth with personal worth.

So don’t think for a minute that caving-in means a change of heart. Republicans are expert at using fear to motivate their sheeple, and they spread that fear using lies. However, they are also motivated by fear.  What they fear is the truth.

Bill Maher is a very funny man.  He is ever direct and usually irreverent.  Like me, he is sometimes even rude, it that’s what it takes to make a point most effectively.  I love him, even when I don’t like him.  Enjoy! 🙂

From this Friday evening’s New Rules segment, Bill Maher had some suggestions for "super-rich" liberals about what to do to combat the likes of the "Koch brother from another mother" who has turned North Carolina into wingnut land…

He sure pegged North Carolina! The TEAbuggery has run rampant there! He also pegged how Republicans took control there. Art Pope bought the state for them.

Of course that’s why I call it the Totalitarian Fascist Plutocracy of McCrorystan. When Maher goes to Alaska, I hope he has a run in with Blood-libel Barbie, aka Brill Baby Dingbat, aka Mooseolini.

Writing for tomorrow, day 51, at 11:00 AM, it’s already 89° at my desk.  ARGH!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:17 (average 4:31).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos:

Yes, I know that if you’re one of the beltway insiders who spends their evenings thumbing through the index of This Town, it’s probably shocking to see a headline saying that Republicans are consciously pursuing a policy of starvation … but this isn’t a question of opinion. It’s fact:

House Republicans are proposing to double their food stamp savings to nearly $40 billion by rolling back waivers for able-bodied adults and targeting funds to states that are willing to impose greater work requirements on the parents of young children.

I’m surprised Wal-fart isn’t making a huge stink over this. If Republicans roll back waivers for able bodied adults, most of Wal-fart’s work force could starve.

From Alternet: The fact is, America’s suicide rate is on the rise, and Conservative economic policies are to blame.

In a study released in May, Professors David Stuckler and Sanjay Basu of Oxford University in England found that suicide rates in both the U.S. and U.K. increase when working class wages and wealth decline.

The study calculates, for example, that there were 4,750 “excess” suicides during the recession period in the U.S., compared with suicide rates before the recession.

See? RepubliCorp has a free death benefit, just like RepubliCare!

From Robert Reich: Job-growth is sputtering. So why, exactly, do regressive Republicans continue to say “no" to every idea for boosting it — even last week’s almost absurdly modest proposal by President Obama to combine corporate tax cuts with increased spending on roads and other public works?…

…The real answer, I think, is they and their patrons want unemployment to remain high and job-growth to sputter. Why? Three reasons:

First, high unemployment keeps wages down. Workers who are worried about losing their jobs settle for whatever they can get — which is why hourly earnings keep dropping. The median wage is now 4 percent lower than it was at the start of the recovery. Low wages help boost corporate profits, thereby keeping the regressives’ corporate sponsors happy…

Robert Reich has outdone himself again. I gave you just a small taste here. Click through to see how well he has the Republican Party pegged!

Busted for Labor Hate

Figuring out the culprit here is not very difficult.  Just asks who hates labor, and the answer is obvious: vulture capitalists and the party that they own, the Republicans.  Then ask who represents the Republican Party most, and the answer is equally obvious, Faux Noise.  John Oliver did a number on them, big time!

Fox-News-purposeIf anyone was not already acquainted with the standard fare offered up on Fox every Saturday during their so-called "business block" where they spend week after week trashing unions, the poor and the working class in general, they got a pretty good dose of what watching those shows on a regular basis is like if they caught John Oliver's opening segment on The Daily Show this Thursday.

Oliver started things off by showing the viewers some of the coverage of the ongoing strikes and protests by fast food workers who are demanding a living wage and asked "how can these fast food workers even be sure their company can afford to give them raises?" After showing a clip where they talked about the fact that McDonald's made $5.5 billion in profits last year, Oliver responded…

…After pointing out that raising the minimum wage would be good news for everybody, including the businesses that raised the wages themselves since it puts more money into the economy, Oliver asked what the argument against raising it is.

Cue the haters over at Faux "News."…

Here’s the video.  Enjoy!

I do think Arthur Treacher’s should be sued for promoting Neil Cavuto so far above his merit. Oliver did a magnificent job of ridiculing just how absurd the Republican policy on food stamps is, and how hateful the goose-steppers at the Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda are while trying to dupe Faux Noise sheeple into believing it.
