Maher

It’s always a pleasure to share clips of Bill Maher with you, and today I have three.  Enjoy!!

Monologue: WTF Is Going On?

Humorous, but entirely accurate!

Trump’s War on Truth

They are at war with the truth! So stinking AMEN!! He may have meant Americans, not Democrats, but most Democrats are fighting for you.  Republicans are goose-stepping in lock-step, and far too many of the fringe left are jerking knees before engaging brains.

New Rule: Stop Apologizing

He makes good sense, and I agree with him. I’m never politically correct, and I don’t have a racist, bigoted, misogynist or homophobic bone in my body. I used to have a sexist one, but it doesn’t work anymore, anyway. Smile with tongue out

From Washington Post: Republican lawmakers aired sharp concerns about their party’s quick push to repeal the Affordable Care Act at a closed-door meeting Thursday, according to a recording of the session obtained by The Washington Post.

The recording reveals a GOP that appears to be filled with doubts about how to make good on a long-standing promise to get rid of Obamacare without explicit guidance from President Trump or his administration. The thorny issues with which lawmakers grapple on the tape — including who may end up either losing coverage or paying more under a revamped system — highlight the financial and political challenges that flow from upending the current law.

Senators and House members expressed a range of concerns about the task ahead: how to prepare a replacement plan that can be ready to launch at the time of repeal; how to avoid deep damage to the health insurance market; how to keep premiums affordable for middle-class families; even how to avoid the political consequences of defunding Planned Parenthood, the women’s health-care organization, as many Republicans hope to do with the repeal of the ACA.

“We’d better be sure that we’re prepared to live with the market we’ve created” with repeal, said Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.). “That’s going to be called Trumpcare. Republicans will own that lock, stock and barrel, and we’ll be judged in the election less than two years away.”

Click through for many more statements from the secret recording. Note that not one of these fascist Republicans gives a damn about YOU, only the damage they wouls do to their careers. RESIST!!

From The Rachel Maddow Show: Trump, weak under pressure, caves; wall’s future uncertain

Rachel Maddow reports on a series of orders from Donald Trump to federal agencies this week that were ultimately reversed as Trump caved to pressure, and wonders about the future of Trump’s wall when Americans learn he wants them to pay for it.

Why the Fuhrer Purged State

Posted by at 12:09 pm  Politics

Yesterday I published an articl starting that career professionals had quit State rather than serve under the Fuhrer.  My source and my conclusion were both incorrect.  The truth is that they were purged.  The question is this: Why would the Fuhrer gut State like that when all were nonpartisan experts, who had served under both Democratic and  Republican administrations?  In my view, the answer is to get people likely to object to policies that favor Russia’s interests over our own and replace them with ringers that have Putin’s personal seal of approval, like the Fuhrer’s nominee for Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson.

0127hitler-stalin

The entire senior level management team at the State Department was fired by President Donald Trump’s administration this week, CNN reported Thursday.

Senior administration officials told CNN’s Elise Labott that four top State Department staffers were informed in letters sent by the White House that their service was no longer required. The pro forma resignation letters typically submitted by the heads of federal agencies at the start of new administrations were accepted.

The Washington Post previously reported that undersecretary for management Patrick Kennedy stepped down unexpectedly Wednesday after nine years in his role, and Assistant Secretary of State for Administration Joyce Anne Barr, Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Michele Bond and Ambassador Gentry O. Smith, director of the Office of Foreign Missions, all followed suit. The four officials, who have served under both Republican and Democratic administrations, are charged with managing the agency and overseeing its staff diplomatic posts abroad… [emphasis added]

From <TPM>

How this ties into the Hitler-Stalin relationship between Trump and Putin, I learned from Rachel Maddow.  It takes her two clips and over twenty minutes to get there, but please take the time to view these.  When you’re done, you’ll understand, and I trust you’ll agree.

We have never had more concrete evidence that Donald Trump is a "Siberian Candidate" in thrall to and in the service of a foreign adversary.

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: Donald J. Trump’s personal war with Mexico escalated further on Friday after Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto cancelled his meeting with Trump and scheduled one with Meryl Streep instead.

“The American people are a great people, and no one personifies that greatness better than Meryl Streep,” Peña Nieto said in an official statement.

The summit with Streep was widely seen as a prelude to Mexico establishing full diplomatic relations with the Academy Award-winning actress.

At the White House, Trump’s advisers were reportedly considering a host of retaliatory measures, including Steve Bannon’s proposal that the President of Mexico be told to “shut up.”

Dang, Andy!! Will Fuhrer Drumpfenfarten declare war?  RESIST!!

From Exposed by CMD: Public education advocates are demanding another hearing on Trump nominee for Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, after her dismal performance in front of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee (HELP) January 17th and after the late release of her ethics report on January 20th.

The report, available here, details some 102 companies that might pose a conflict of interest for DeVos and sheds new light on the nominee’s investments and ethics.

While most Secretaries of Education have an extensive resume as school administrators or as educators, DeVos has neither. DeVos is married to the billionaire heir to the Amway fortune, Dick DeVos. Together they have spent millions advancing a radical school privatization agenda, including taxpayer vouchers for private and religious schools, and electing politicians across the nation willing to advance that agenda. DeVos was asked about her experience for the job by Democratic senators who were only allowed 5 minutes each.

What a horrible choice! Remember, Democrats cannot block her nomination without three Republican votes. The most they can do is delay it for one week.  RESIST!!

From Daily Kos:

According to the New York Times, at least six journalists were charged with rioting after they were detained while covering some of the more “violent protests”* taking place near Trump’s inauguration parade.

The journalists were among 230 people detained in the anti-Trump demonstrations, during which protesters smashed the glass of commercial buildings and lit a limousine on fire.

The charges against the journalists — Evan Engel, Alexander Rubinstein, Jack Keller, Matthew Hopard, Shay Horse and Aaron Cantu — have been denounced by organizations dedicated to press freedom. All of those arrested have denied participating in the violence.

“These felony charges are bizarre and essentially unheard of when it comes to journalists here in America who were simply doing their job,” said Suzanne Nossel, the executive director of Pen America. “They weren’t even in the wrong place at the wrong time. They were in the right place.”

The journalists in question are being arrested for being around the violent parts of the protests—a guilt by proximity.

While all but one of the journalists is a lefty, only one (Horse) is an self-avowed anarchist, who may have been as much a participant as a journalist. Expect charges to be dropped for Rubenstein. He’s as right-wing propagandist for Trump’s owner, Putin. Perhaps Cantu is the best accredited. He writes for The Nation. Guilt by proximity is criminal. If they committed the acts themselves, charge them. If not, apologize!  RESIST!!

Abandon Ship!

I've been trying to imagine what it must be like to be a well paid senior nonpartisan career expert working in one of the federal departments, waiting for a Trump appointee to take over, and knowing his role is to destroy my life's work and that of all the other dedicated professionals in the department.  I decided that there could be only one ethical course of action, but thought nobody actually facing that situation would see it that way.  Fortunately, I was wrong.

0126ship

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s job running the State Department just got considerably more difficult. The entire senior level of management officials resigned Wednesday, part of an ongoing mass exodus of senior foreign service officers who don’t want to stick around for the Trump era.

Tillerson was actually inside the State Department’s headquarters in Foggy Bottom on Wednesday, taking meetings and getting the lay of the land. I reported Wednesday morning that the Trump team was narrowing its search for his No. 2, and that it was looking to replace the State Department’s long-serving undersecretary for management, Patrick Kennedy. Kennedy, who has been in that job for nine years, was actively involved in the transition and was angling to keep that job under Tillerson, three State Department officials told me.

Then suddenly on Wednesday afternoon, Kennedy and three of his top officials resigned unexpectedly, four State Department officials confirmed. Assistant Secretary of State for Administration Joyce Anne Barr, Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Michele Bond and Ambassador Gentry O. Smith, director of the Office of Foreign Missions, followed him out the door. All are career foreign service officers who have served under both Republican and Democratic administrations.

Kennedy will retire from the foreign service at the end of the month, officials said. The other officials could be given assignments elsewhere in the foreign service.

In addition, Assistant Secretary of State for Diplomatic Security Gregory Starr retired Jan. 20, and the director of the Bureau of Overseas Building Operations, Lydia Muniz, departed the same day. That amounts to a near-complete housecleaning of all the senior officials that deal with managing the State Department, its overseas posts and its people.

“It’s the single biggest simultaneous departure of institutional memory that anyone can remember, and that’s incredibly difficult to replicate,” said David Wade, who served as State Department chief of staff under Secretary of State John Kerry… [emphasis added]

From <Washington Post>

Major kudos to all the officials who resigned, rather that serve at the whim  of Nectarine Nero!

RESIST!!

When I'm wrong, I say so.  The Post article on which I based my conclusions was wrong.  The State Department Officials who left did not quit.  The Fuhrer purged them, presumably to make room for replacements selected by Vladimir Putin.  More  coming in another article.

From YouTube (GQ Channel): How the Media Needs to Respond to Trump Now | The Resistance with Keith Olbermann

Amen Keith! The Fourth Estate has two choices. They can do their duty or they can become an insignificant pawn of the Fifth Reich! RESIST!!

From The Rachel Maddow Show: PPP poll: Trump base deluded by false facts

Rachel Maddow gives an exclusive first look at the latest PPP poll showing Donald Trump with historically low approval ratings and that most Americans do not believe his lies about inauguration numbers, though his supporters do.

This reiterates what Keith said.  Media might as well report truth.  Only deplorables will believe the Fuhrer’s lies anyway!  RESIST!!

From NY Times: It contained crossed-out phrases and typos. It said that the Sept. 11 attacks occurred in 2011, rather than a decade earlier. It was clearly not meant for public consumption.

But the draft of a Trump administration executive order that spilled into public view early Wednesday — a document that raised the prospect of reviving C.I.A. “black site” prisons like those where terrorism suspects were once detained and tortured — has the potential to further fracture a national security team already divided over one of the most controversial policies of the post-9/11 era.

Time to dust off the Statue of Republican Liberty. RESIST!!

Crude Decisions

Posted by at 2:07 pm  Politics
Jan 252017

Every day I express my gratitude in  prayer to God that the earth has survived another day in which very small hands have access to the nuclear football.  Unfortunately the Potomac Polluter has been making some crude decisions, so crude, in fact, that they make it clear that the Fuhrer has more than one way to destroy the world.

0125pipeline-protest

It took President Obama most of two terms to decide to reject the Keystone XL oil pipeline. His administration wrestled openly for months before concluding that it would look for alternative routes for the Dakota Access pipeline.

President Trump needed just five days in office to begin trying to reverse both decisions.

When Obama announced in November 2015 that he was rejecting Keystone XL, which would have transported oil from Canada’s tar sands to an existing pipeline in the United States, international meetings that would lead to the historic Paris climate accord were just weeks away. The former president made clear that he was concerned about his environmental legacy and the world’s future.

"America is now a global leader when it comes to taking serious action to fight climate change," Obama said at the time. "And, frankly, approving this project would have undercut that global leadership."

When Trump announced his executive actions on Tuesday to try to revive the Keystone XL pipeline, which would extend from northern Alberta to Nebraska, as well as the Dakota Access pipeline, which would run through North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Illinois, there was no talk of climate change or global environmental leadership.

Among his motives, he told reporters: “a lot of jobs.”… [emphasis added]

From <LA Times>

By "a lot" Pumpkin Pinocchio means 35 permanent jobs for Keystone XL and a lesser number for DAPL.  In addition, Trump is invested in both pipelines, and since Transamerica is a Canadian company, his action criminally violated the emoluments clause in the Constitution.

If that isn’t bad enough, the Republican War on  Mother Earth is far, far worse, as Rachel Maddow explains.

Soon it will be law that Federal employees, who disagree on any point with the Republican Reich will be required to click their heels, extend their arms, and shout Sieg Heil!
