Dec 222021

Yesterday, I slept in. However, I had done enough extra the day before I that I didn’t fall behind.

Short Takes

Newsweek – Millions of Angry, Armed Americans Stand Ready to Seize Power If Trump Loses in 2024
Quote – One indication of how far Republicans may be willing to go in violently opposing the government is their sanguine reaction to the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Republicans by and large see no problem with a mob of hundreds swarming and forcing their way into the seat of American government. Half of Republicans said that the mob was “defending freedom,” according to a CBS/YouGov poll taken just after the insurrection. Today two-thirds of Republicans have come to deny that it was an attack at all, according to an October survey by Quinnipiac University. “There’s been little accountability for that insurrection,” says UCLA’s Winkler. “The right-wing rhetoric has only grown worse since then.”
Click through for the full story.  The consensus at DU is that these “warriors” are all hat, no cattle. And don’t exist in the numbers claimed. (And even it they did, “millions” in a nation of 330 million people is in the neighborhood of 3% looked at generously, which would give us the advantage.)

Wonkette – Steve Bannon Isn’t Nearly As Smart As He Thinks He Is. And Neither Are His Lawyers.
Quote – Bannon’s legal team includes Trump impeachment lawyer David Schoen and Bannon’s old lawyer Robert Costello, the guy who told Bannon it was a great idea to give the House January 6 Select Committee two middle fingers and shout EXECUTIVE PRIVILEGE, MOTHERFUCKERS. And if his name sounds familiar, it’s because Costello is the one who tried to dangle a presidential pardon to Michael Cohen via a mangled Garth Brooks lyric.

AP News -Pentagon issues rules aimed at stopping rise of extremism
Quote – Officials said the new policy doesn’t largely change what is prohibited but is more of an effort to make sure troops are clear on what they can and can’t do, while still protecting their First Amendment right to free speech. And for the first time, it is far more specific about social media.
Click thrpugh for more specific info. This is a very good thing. The U.S. military may not even attempt to reach hearts and minds (probably futile anyway) but is very cpmpetent at defining activities and prohibiting harmful ones. And holding individuals accountble.

  1. Glad that you had an opportunity to sleep in…my dog lets me know when it’s time to get up & out of bed. LOL
    Cartoon: YIKES! Not good…
NW: Awful, and plain scary. Very worrisome, imho.
Wonkette: Bannon is dangerous, and a liar (just like the others).
AP: Glad to read that they are looking into this, (rules and regs), and taking action.
    FFT: Love it!

THIS JUST IN: TJI  “I will say what Dan Patrick won’t: Get vaccinated. Get boosted. Get tested. These three things are the best tools we have to keep our schools open, our economy growing, and our communities safe.”~ Lt.GovTX Mike Collier
    2. “Who indicts Former President Donald Trump first? DOJ or Letitia James?” ~ Tony Michaels~
    3. “There is nothing more unrelenting than the assault on the right to vote. We will never waver in our commitment to protecting it.” ~ The Democrats ~
    4. “I have a feeling Former President Donald Trump will soon be Defendant Donald Trump, then Inmate Donald Trump. Go New York!” ~ Amy L. ~
    5. “No book is right for everyone, but one book can make a big difference in one person’s life. That’s what libraries are about – providing those windows and doors and mirrors to the community.” ~Wendy Woodland – Texas Library Association’s Director of Advocacy and Communication. 20DEC21 ~

    • TJI #1 – Good for him. Of course, this is the end of any future he might have had in the Republican party.
TJI #2 – There’s a DA in Georgia looking into his violations of election law. Tish is working on a civil suit, which doesn;t require (and really has no place for) an indictment, but Cy Vance is investigating him criminally.
      TJI #3 – True that.
TJI #4 – That’s up to Cy Vance (and then Alvin Bragg) Misunderstanding the justice systems (yes, that’s a plural) is one of the big reasons voters get angry with the wrong people (another is misunderstanding the roles of the three branches of government.) Tish james is not going to lock him up, or at least not from the current suit. Her lawsuit may provde evidence that Vance/Bragg can use to do so, though.
TJI #5 – Good thing Texa has someone sane in at least one position of influence (though apparrently not a government position, alas.)

    • TJI#1: Great suggestions. Too bad there’s so many rotten ones who don’t care about the people they represent.
      TJI#3: True indeed.
TJI#4: I’m praying to the fullest that will definitely happen.
TJI#5: Glad these libraries are available so many can enjoy reading books they can’t afford to buy.

  2. Comment from Mitch –

N’week: Millions of idiot, gaslight, sheep, too stupid to know Trump’s ass from their pwn elborws.Wonkette: Bannon, and HIS legal slime; “Some people are going to leave a mark on this world, while others will leave a stain.” Eleanor Roosevelt
AP: Can’t see it, but, I expect that rules will work.
FFT: Aha!  It was all a code in a code!
    Mitch

  3. Cartoon: Yes. that’s exactly what these rotten R’s are trying to do.
Newsweek: Despicable. These right-wingers need some sense knocked int9 their heads if they still support the rotten bas*ard, tRump. I pray that this situation won’t be able to even take place. Hopefully tRump will be behind bars.
Wonkette: I see by reading the article that bAnnon and his buddies are still trying to plan more vicious acts with the 2022 election coming up. He’s another one that needs to be prosecuted for all of his evil acts.
AP: Good to see that they’re taking steps to prevent extremism. Definitely needed.
Food for Thought: Great one, Ryan.
Happy to hear that you’re getting the sleep you need.
Hope you had a nice day.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne
