Dec 162021

Yesterday, nothing was predictable or went as expected. Butterfingers here dropped some things … and then picked up some other things, some probably dropped months ago (like 4mm beads, and earring backs.) Mislaid some things, found one that I’d been looking for. Got a package and found one item was missing but one was included I hadn’t ordered (and it wasn’t on the packing slip – and this is unheard of with this supplier.) Loaded some pictures for FFT to the library, and two just disappeared (they were still on my computer, but I had to find them in the trash to re-load them.) All just little things, but a bit disorienting. Nothing I can’t survive LOL!

Short Takes

Mother Jones – What if Media Covered the War on Democracy Like an Actual War?
Quote – As we wind down a year that began with a televised insurrection and ends with detailed reporting on what a 2024 coup could look like, it’s more important than ever to stay grounded in that story. Call it the Big Story, in contrast to the Big Lie…. The Big Story did not begin on November 3, 2020, but it did enter a new chapter that day. Remember those surreal weeks, just barely a year ago? Protesters banging on doors at ballot-counting centers, Rudy Giuliani holding forth outside a landscaping shop, election officials reporting vile threats to their families?
Click through for more reality. Yes, Monika wants to raise funds, but who can blame her. It’s not like this isn’t important.

Crooks and Liars – Seems Like People Are Missing The Real Mark Meadows Story
Quote – The plan all along was to create a clash between “patriots” and antifa/BLM that would allow Trump to invoke the Insurrection Act and stay in office. Leftists threw a major monkey wrench into the plot by not showing up. (Thank you, leftists. Major props!)
Click through. It’s not long, and not a word is wasted. And she’s right. And I missed it too.

HuffPost – Final Child Tax Credit Payments Go Out Amid Doubt Over Program’s Future
Quote – As a main Democratic holdout in the Senate, Manchin has faced relentless questioning from reporters about his position on various elements of Build Back Better, and he lost his temper on Wednesday when HuffPost followed up with a question about whether he supported continuing the child tax credit in its current form. “This is bullshit,” he said. “You’re bullshit.”
Click through for backstory, and consequences. I find this situation painful, and I don’t even have kids.

  1. Sounds like you had a busy day getting things in order. Good for you. 😉
Cartoon: How awesome! Part of the Voyager program is to study the outer Solar System and interstellar space. …*wiki
MJ: Good article to be aware of. Very Scary news re: the R’s, the TOT, and a possible 2024 coup, God forbid. Yes, it’s a big story. I try to stay grounded, but the anxiety is still there. I hope the best for the Nation and the people.
C&L: Spot on! Thank the Lord the D’s didn’t show up! Kudos!
    FFT: Good one. LOL

THIS JUST IN: “We’re glad to have Ambassador Alaina Teplitz as Assistant Secretaryfor Administration. Through decades of public service, she’s helped lay the foundation for successful 21st century U.S. diplomacy. In hernew role, she’ll advance @StateDept’s support programs at home and abroad.” ~ Wendy Sherman ~
    2. “The Build Back Better Act is the largest expansion of affordable health care in a decade — lowering the cost of prescription drugs by letting Medicare negotiate prices, reducing premiums for over 9M Americans, expanding Medicare to cover hearing benefits, and more.” ~ The White House ~
3.”I’ve got a Ph.D. in shade and reading. I speak fluent sarcasm.” ~ Brad Takei ~
    4. “You can’t turn over documents because they aren’t privileged & then refuse to testify about them, claiming executive privilege. Sure, DOJ gives people who assert the privilege a broad berth, but sometimes, you just have to call it what it is.” ~ Joyce Alene ~
4.1 “Agreed. I’m not sure what else the January 6 Committee needs.” ~ Mary Trump ~
    5. “—Nearly 6 million new jobs —200 million+ fully vaccinated —Lowest unemployment filings in FIFTY YEARS The economic recovery under @POTUS Biden is one of the strongest ever. We need to pass #BuildBackBetter  to continue the economic recovery and lower costs for American families.” ~ Senate Democrats ~

    • TJI #1 – Interesting. Yes, it’s often good to have as an administrator someone who has spent a lot of time in the field. (It’s as closee as most institutions get to asking advice from those at the bottom.)
TJI #2 – Dear God, I hope is passes!
TJI #3 – He sounds like a little ray of sunshine to brighten George’s life. (It looks like it too, if you look at a quick Geegle selection of photos.)
TJI #4 – The GQP are experts in eating their cake and having it.
TJI #4.1 – There are prosecutors on it (and at least one experienced political hardball player.) I have no experience being either, so I also don’t know. One suggestion has been they might be timing revelations to come out at the best possible time to affect the 2022 elections. But I don’t know that, and hesitate to offer an opinion.
      TJI #5 –

    • TJI#1: Good for her. Wishing her the best with her new advancement.
TJI#2: I too hope it will pass. I’ve been signing petitions daily for weeks. We definitely need better health, dental and prescription plan coverages.
      TJI#3: Like him.
TJI#4: They’re good at acting like they’re playing by the rules, then all of the sudden the rules are changed by their corrupt minds and they’re no longer playing or involved.
TJI#5: Bravo President Biden. Great job. Ditto Joanne’s Amen sign.

  2. Comment from Mitch –

Glad you survived.’Toon: A nice human first.  Now we have the solar probe at the sun.
MJ: What if the media reported “…the facts, mam, just the facts.” What if they did a Peter Zenger?  Murdoch was just lambasted in
Australia, for being a twisted bastard.  Then, there is Sinclair, and more!
C&L: This makes major sense.  I think that Dumpy, and ass..ociates had a couple of paths in mind: One was to declare the emergency,
Martial Law, or whatever, and the other was to totally stop Pence-thing.  When Antifa, Inc. (right!) failed to even send its CEO to the
battle, things got so one sided that Jr., and others, tried to call the thing off.  (There having been no other side.)
Huff: Manchin has created one hell of a legacy for hisself!  And he has left the country holding the bag of the failed Reconstruction.
FFT: Reminds me of the time I offered a list of science for the layman books to a fellow from my old “Men’s Group,” back  in NJ: When
I mentioned it to the guy’s wife, the prospect of her husband reading any of them only made her laugh.
    Mitch

  3. Cartoon: Fascinating.
MJ: Interesting story. Too bad the media continues spreading tRumpy fake news. I really don’t want to even imagine him ever holding an place in our political world. That goes for all of his GOPigges/rotten R buddies too. We need to get them out for good.
C&L: For some odd reason, my computer keeps freezing when I open Crooks and Liars. I lost what I wrote twice now because of it.
HuffPost: manchin….Despicable heartless bas*ard. He’s got to go.
Food for Thought; Yep, audio indeed,
Sounds like you were having a good time yesterday when you were going thru some of your beads and being able to find ones you had been looking for.
    Hope your day was pleasant.
It’s been chilly here in San Diego. It’s been in the 30’s at night, then just in the 50’s during the day. The plants aren’t loving it one bit. It may drizzle tonight, but the next storm will be coming next Wednesday. The cooler weather is expected to stick around for some time. I know it must get way cooler there, it’s just that my joints are use to it.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

  4. thank you, terrific as usual.
