Yesterday, I visited Virgil. The sun wasn’t that bad in the morning, although I think I will start looking at the almanac hor how the time of sunrise moves.  From four weeks ago to two weeks ago, the sunrise got ten minutes earlier.  From two weeks ago to this visi, sunset got a total of two minutes earlier, and all of that was in the first few days – it’s been the same for nine days in a row.  So I’m sort of expecting it to start getting later instead of earlier in a day or two.  The days will still get shorter until the soltice, but all of that will come from the sunrise getting later, and none from the sunset getting earlier.  The visit was good, and Virgil returns all greeting with thanks.

Short Takes

From an email from Democracy for America:
[On Thursday,] at the direction of Mitch McConnell, Joe Manchin, and Kyrsten Sinema moved forward with a one-time exemption to the filibuster to raise the debt ceiling.
That’s right, Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, who have both previously stated that they would not support any filibuster exceptions under any circumstances, even to protect voting rights, just made an exception to the filibuster.
If Manchin and Sinema are going to make an exception to the filibuster when McConnell wants to, they should be bending over backwards to make that same exception to protect voting rights.
Join DFA as we tell Manchin, Sinema, and all Senate Democrats: If you’re willing to make an exception to the filibuster in order to raise the debt ceiling, you must make that same exception to protect voting rights.

Law & Crime – Our First Look at Josh Duggar Immediately After Child Porn Conviction and Months Ahead of Sentencing
Quote – Other court records indicate that the jury began deliberations at 12:17 p.m. on Wednesday. They asked for a recording of an interview with Duggar himself to be re-played — and it was, in its entirety — before jurors retired to deliberate once again. Court recessed for the day around 5:00 p.m. The jurors returned for about an hour and a hate Thursday before returning a verdict at 10:07 a.m.

HuffPost – Tucker Carlson’s Jan. 6 ‘Agent Provocateur’ Is A Big Tucker Fan And An Amateur Cardinals Mascot
Quote – But the man is no fed. He is mainly known to St. Louis Cardinals fans as “Rally Runner,” HuffPost has learned, and he sprints around the outside of Busch Stadium during home games. Based on the man’s Facebook posts, he appears to have a fairly difficult life and has a tenuous relationship with reality. And he’s a huge Tucker Carlson fan.

  1. Glad that you got the sunrise/sunset times out for your ‘to and fro’ driving. Good for you with your great visit in seeing Virgil. HI there!
Cartoon: A very, very sad day indeed.
Democracy for America: Yep, so signed. TY!
L&C: Duggar – What a vile, sick piece of sh-t! He should get those 20 years per conviction, or imho, not be released at all.
HP: Very scary, thankfully Justice is taking care of these people. Along with the many others involved that horrible day, he’s at the top rung of the ladder as are the many others… imho.
FFT: Yeah. Turn the car around…
THIS JUST IN: “A lot of veterans like me are actually livid as hell to see the DOP destroying the democracy we swore to protect. What trump and his facist goons tried to do on January 6th, is all the proof I need – they are the ‘domestic’ in “enemies” foreign or domestic. I remember my Oath.” ~ Ragnarson 007 ~
    2. “We have one president at a time. Fed Appeals Court smacks down Trump’s Executive Privilege Assertion over January 6th documents.”  ~ Marissa Sarnoff ~
    3. “Don’t laugh at children who believe in Santa. There are ‘adults’ that believe trump still won.”
    ~Vets for Democracy ~
    4. “How boldly are republicans trying to overthrow the Biden government? They had a PowerPoint Plan . Why were they so bold? Because they think you and DOJ don’t care and thus they can’t be stopped. We are in a battle for democracy. It’s on life support.” ~ Eric Swalwell ~

    • TJI #1 – He certainly speaks for me – and you, Pat – doen’s he.
TJI #2 – I did hear that, and thought it very good. Between it and “You are not a King,” it should be clear – but it probably isn’t to him. (He’s not a king – but he might be a kingpin. I suppose.)
TJI #3 – So many on the “left” seem to think veterans and military are all for Trump*/. like police. It would be good to do some polling to find out how accurate that is. I for one don’t believe it. Yes, there are some Nazis in those groups. But I suspect the preponderance of them is on our side.
TJI #4 – Yes indeed, that Powerpoint shocked many. I’m only shocked that is was turned over to the committee, presumably ny Meadows, before he decided to stonewall. Now, I’ll bet he can’t wait until he gets locked up – in order to become less accessible to Trump** and goons to knock off.

  2. Glad you had a good visit, JD.   Cartoon: Great, brave patriotic people.   DFA: Thx, signed.    L&C: Locked up,LOL! Now for the also sick, disgusting GQP  in his selfies! Yeah, you Matt Gaetz.     Huff Post:  The more Tucker, etc. try to distort, lie about Jan.6 the more complicit,me thinks.     FFT: Yes, that’s his “kids”—-SMH  Maybe leave ’em at a rest stop see if they can figure out their way “back”.     Stay safe, all.   We must persist.

  3. Thanks Joanne–I’ll start with the cartoon and share that redistricting commission’s proposal moved some of Nunnes’s most conservative voters into McCarthy’s district so he was likely to have to choose challenging McCarthy in the primary to get the prize of possible chair of House Appropriations Committee or run in a far more DEM district…part of the why on taking Trump’s job proposal…so special election for a different district than 2022 election, too.
Glad you have the issues for your Virgil visits figured out and also glad that the abnormal CO weather has kept that kind of issue from adding to the challenges.I see things akin to DFA–after being Green Party, Sinema has moved to the money and she and Manchin seem to be more aligned with the GOP than their voters or own Party.  Keep having fantasies of early retirements, resignations needed, etc. to reduce the GOP votes to 48 or fewer so the Party can stop catering to their immoral choices at odds with their oaths of office.
Also saw another Duggar in the news with abuse, neglect allegations (a sister of this felon I believe)…
Tucker’s reaching further for absurdities to push seems to be adding to evidence to go with the speculation I have read that he is a Russian asset…
Locally we are getting atmospheric river precipitation again.  Current will not be near so much as that original November storm, but tomorrow’s heavy in places could bring a lot of flooding. Donner Pass could get as much as 100 inches of snow today through Tues.; Echo Summit up to 80 inches with white out conditions expected and this means a test of the post-Caldor Fire forest work to protect from slides, avalanches, etc.

    • I doubt if even the Duggars can keep track of all the Duggars.

I’m envious of that kind of snowfall  Our rivers are on life support.  I know, Donner Pass is a place npeople need to be able to go through … but at least if you can avoid landslides you can look forward to a good harvest in 2022. At this point, we can’t.

      • This drought has been so much worse than all the CA others dating back to the 1970s–even established plants that never asked for water dating back to 1986 asked this year.  So much dry after that heavy Nov. rain that not yet established plants were asking by Thanksgiving…with temperatures down in the 40s when not in sun…I empathize. This century the periods of respite have been so much shorter inbetween.  This week’s main system is going slightly further south than prior ones.  If that becomes a trend, one or more of these intensely wet storms might reach your nearby Rockies and get across for your area to share the wealth.  All hitting N. CA have been strong enough to at least get to the Rockies so far.
Reservoirs here are still way low so I keep hoping at least a delay on that tunnel from the Delta to S. CA kicks in to preserve enough for all who need water to survive, including salmon and others hurt by too much diversion.  Here in the north some smaller communities have made arrangements for 100% if yard watering being recycled water (est. yards/golf courses and other plants) are about 75% of our water use-agriculture #2 then residential number 3 (cleaning, consumption, bathing, etc.)
With the flumes burned moving alot of my area’s water and canals and reservoirs with fires fought next to them, the chlorine level was high and musty taste when not filtered was true until awhile after the big rain.
Water is life is so much more than a mantra.

  4. thanks, another great cartoon, but sadly many don’t seem to mind….

  5. Cartoon: Shameful. They were ones who were out fighting for the people’s rights.
    DFA: Signed.
L&C: Been hearing and seeing all sort of news and articles about the verdict of this case. I too hope that he ends up in prison for a mighty long time for all the evil things he did with innocent children all of these years.
HuffPost: Where this flipping fake newscaster comes up with his off the wall article? I can’t stand watching or listening to the idiot. I’m just happy that the FBI and all other agencies are finding all of these violent rioters and prosecuting them to the fullest. Teach them and all others who even get an idea like doing that again to understand that they’ll pay for their evil sins.
Food for Thought: Wish he would.
Happy to hear you had a good visit with Virgil yesterday. I like the way you’re keeping on top of the time the sun is setting.
Hope you had a restful day catching up from yesterday.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne
