Yesterday, another quiet day.I love quiet days, but it makes it difficult to find much if anything to say about them. I guess that’s all right, though.

Short Takes –

AP News – Native American confirmed as head of National Park Service
Quote – Sams is Cayuse and Walla Walla and lives on the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Oregon. There, he gained a reputation for being unflappable. He has worked in state and tribal governments and the nonprofit natural resource and conservation management fields for over 25 years. “He is known for being steady at the helm and taking challenges in stride,” said Bobbie Conner, director of the Tamastslikt Cultural Institute on the 270-square-mile (700-square-kilometer) reservation.
Click through for more details. It took way too lokg to confirm him – but it’s done now.

Daily Kos (Tevye) – Dead Man On The Ground. Bullets Flying. Others Running For Safety. He Ran Straight Towards A Madman.
Quote – As a young man, Anthony struggled with mental health issues and drug dependency. And seven years ago, he quit cold turkey and never relapsed. He went to counseling for a few years, but he regarded two things as his savior…..his skateboarding community and his activism.Any marginalized group in his community, be it those of color, those from the LGBTQ+ community, Jews ( he was Jewish himself ), Muslims, First Nations peoples….. if you were oppressed, you had a friend, advocate and defender in Anthony. He was there for you.
Click through. Hanky alert. I can tell Tevye is angty, but he knows, none better, how to transform that anger into gried, and then into resolution.

Smithsonian – What Kind of Turkey are you?
Quote – More than just a traditional holiday trimming, the turkey is an American icon. Native to our continent, turkeys were domesticated by the ancient Maya, called a respectable “Bird of Courage” by Benjamin Franklin, and have been officially pardoned by Presidents since 1989. The Smithsonian has over 155 million objects in its collections—including a fair number of turkeys. This Thanksgiving, find your inner Smithsonian turkey by taking our short quiz!
Click through to take the quiz. I took it ans was told I am “The Dignified Turkey.” That may be the first time anyone every called me dignified – and it may also be the last!

  1. JD, nice you had a quiet day;I’ve already gotten into it w/a (likely) MAGA type this AM bc I mocked him for speeding on the 25mph residential street! He told me to “act my age” and that I’m an idiot. I called him a “kind Xtian.” No one ever has a response to that; I’ve said it to numerous one who start it w/me. LOL!                       AP” Good for him, about time. He and Deb Haaland great choices. Thank you, Pres. Biden.        DK: Yes Anthony and the other two who were shot were heroes and VICTIMS. Let’s remember them while Kyle is being praised by “Tuckums” Carlson.      FFT:So true. Gov. DeWine approved OH’s 13R,2D districts. Out of whack much? But that’s the GQP.  The districts will have to be redrawn before 10yrs.,tho bc was NOT bipartisan. So it goes. Stay safe, all.

  2. Hi, Me here…taking a break from the purging out from the shed and the garage.
Ohhh, look! Christmas decorations!!! lol 28

Cartoon: He certainly would have spoken and ended the war/wars. He was to me, even as a child, a very kind, empathetic man.
AP: What great news! I wish Mr. Sams III the very best in his new job.
DK: A very moving story. Rest in Peace, Anthony, and to the many heroes who have died tragically like this.
Smithsonian: I’ll have to come back to do this…as I’m ‘working’ in cleaning out the shed. lol 21
Cartoon: One would think how annoying they (R’s) sound when speaking. All liars.
This just IN:   “OUTRAGEOUS! Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley have BLOCKED confirmation of more than 50 of President Biden’s key diplomats and top State Department officials, jeopardizing US foreign policy. Who else isdisgusted by this?” ~ Jon Cooper ~
    2. “The breakthroughs that she was responsible for in the 80’s was the basis for a lot of great work.”Vice President @KamalaHarris stopped by the Pasteur Institute where her mother Shyamala conducted breast cancer research.” ~ The Democrats ~
    3. “So many lessons from my friend, @nhannahjones, this morning. Go where you are embraced, celebrated, valued and supported. Go where you don’t have to fight for people to see your brilliance. And, avoid spaces if they barely tolerate you, even if they’re familiar and beloved.” ~ Yamiche Alcindor ~
    4. “If Trump goes to prison, it will be his first complete sentence.” ~ Tim Kodi ~
    5. “An expert on the circus industry recently reached out to me and urged me to not compare Trump and his comeback tour to clowns at the circus… as that is an insult to clowns. I agree.” ~ Jim Acosta ~

    • Oops – that gives you an extra day away putting them up (maybe not till after T-day?)

TJI #1 – Because of course they have. Yeah, I’m disgisted. Just not surprised.
TJI #2 – Brains run in the family, I see.
TJI #3 – Great advice for self care. Less great advice for fighters for justice … unless they are on a much needed break. Then it’s good advice for them too.
TJI #4 – Assuming he completes it.
TJI #5 – Acosta’s friend is oh so correct. Clowns and mimes (not the same, but much in common) need rigorous training – and to be physically fit – and they need incredible self control. Seriously. Kids throw rocks at them and they have to act as though it didn’t happen. TFG could NEVER qualify to be a clown.

  3. Comment from Mitch –

Yes, quiet is good.  But, now that those 5 new subpoenas have come down, I do not think quiet will last.’Toon: I do believe that is probable.
    AP: A good development.
    DK: Beyond patriotism.
Smithsonian: I got “Dignified” also.  But, the choices were limited.  I do not think others see me as dignified, either.
FFT: That’s the way it is.
    Mitch

  4. Please don’t feel obliged to give us a recount of everything you’ve done that day, Joanne. Most of us here are at a stage in life when nothing much happens and at this stage that is a very good thing. TomCat’s world got very small when he was diagnosed with cancer and health issues occupied most of his day and that trickled down into his threads. Fortunately, silence on your part means you’re quietly going about your business, just as you prefer it.

AP: It’s a sign of the times that it took so long to confirm Charles Sam’s appointment. Had he been a white man with the same credentials it would have taken long just because Biden put him forward. As this was the first Native American nominated for this post it has taken twice as long to get it past the GQP. But now the National Parks can look towards a brighter future.

DK: Kyle Rittenhouse, armed with an AR-15 and already having shot an unarmed Joseph Rosenbaum, wounds Gaige Grosskreutz and then shoots Anthony Huber, armed with a skateboard, point-blank in self-defence and is acquitted of all charges. And Joseph, Gaige and Anthony couldn’t be called victims during the trial, but calling these activists who were on the side of the downtrodden rioters and looters was OK. America, your justice system is a very sick puppy on the verge of dying. This acquittal is a call for war on left-wing activists, no matter what their colour.

FFT: You forgot to publish the second cartoon of the pair, Joanne. The one where the elephant hits the donkey over the head with the turkey carcass and knocks it out. 😉

    • I would bore you silly if I tried to tell youeverything.  It would be like a screenplay from an adsurdist, surrealist movie with stream of consciousness.  I do try to tell something, though.  It feels like it gives a kind of introduction.

Oh, and I didn’t post the second half of the cartoon because the cartoonist forgot to draw it (or assumed we’d figure it out, I’m not sure which/)12

  5. Cartoon: I feel he would of accomplished that major task. He was one President that people had high regards for.
AP: Wonderful news. Glad they finally confirmed him.
DK: Touching story. I agree with Lona’s comment saying our justice system is like a very sick puppy. It’s awful seeing the direction it has been going these past years.
Food for Thought: Shameful the way the R’s are.
Glad you’re still having another quiet day.
I had doctor appointments the past two days. All of my blood test came out good, except my sodium and chloride were on the low side. So I need to increase my salt. Was using sea salt, but bought some regular salt to use.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

    • I had the same problem with NaCl when I was about 9 – it got diagnosed because I was chewing my hair and clothes.  Back in the day, doctors didn’t believe children should be allowed salt.  I haven’t had that particular problem since.  I hope yours clears up.

    • Thanks I appreciate it.

  6. It’s questionable if JFK would have ended the Vietnam war. He was the one who increased the American soldier count in Vietnam. He believed in the domino theory in South East Asia. He felt America had to stop communist encroachment in the region. He would have waged the war differently and by the time the protests were at their height, he would have served his two terms and been out of office.

    • I had the same thought.  And you don’t say so in so many words, but you appear to think, with me, that he would have responded to protests (had they been on his watch.)  There’s really no way to know at this point.
