Yesterday, I mostly got ready for today’s drive. I also tried to collect a little extra news and videos, so Saturday’s posts may be a trifle dated.  Also yesterday, Steve Bannon was indicted by the DOJ on 2 counts of Contempt of Congress – one for not providing documents, and one for not providing testimony

Mother Jones – The Furriest, Cleverest, and Hands-Down Cutest Way to Fight Climate Change
Quote – But it’s tricky to quantify exactly how much carbon a healthy kelp forest gobbles up. A redwood tree, for instance, grows to be massive over hundreds of years, locking away lots of carbon over long timescales. (Unless it catches on fire, in which case the carbon goes back into the atmosphere.) Things are more in flux underwater. All manner of critters, including sea urchins, are nibbling on kelp—and pooping out the carbon. Plus, the churning sea breaks off bits of the forest, which fall to the seafloor and decompose, releasing stored carbon. So a kelp forest constantly decays and grows back, sequestering and releasing carbon all the while.

Kansas School District Bans Pulitzer Prize-winning Books
Quote – It’s not just Kansas. In Virginia, one school district is hard at work removing “sexual content” from their libraries. Two board members, Courtland representative Rabih Abuismail and Livingston representative Kirk Twigg, said they would like to see the removed books burned. “I think we should throw those books in a fire,” Abuismail said, and Twigg said he wants to “see the books before we burn them so we can identify within our community that we are eradicating this bad stuff.”

GOP leaders say little to condemn violent political rhetoric
Quote – The GOP’s reluctance to crack down on — or even mildly criticize — violent rhetoric in its own ranks is part of a broader pattern in which the party tries to minimize such behavior. Gosar removed the tweet aimed at Ocasio-Cortez, but the Arizona congressman and his digital director said those offended by his tweet should “relax.” Trump, meanwhile, has attempted to divert attention from the Jan. 6 violence at the U.S. Capitol by saying that last year’s Election Day was the “real insurrection.” There was no insurrection on Election Day. There was a free and fair election won by Biden.

  1. Glad to read that you got everything in order. Tell Virgil HI for me. Safe trip to and fro. I hope that Bannon gets what’s coming to him. BTW….I don’t think that ‘Orange is the new Black’ for Bannon, I think it should be dark, dark brown. imho, lol
Cartoon: Gawd…Isn’t that awful? I think so.
    MJ: Mother Nature knows best.
C&L: Geez….how pathetic this is? I can see Texas raising it’s hand yelling ‘Me, Me, Me!’ next.
GOP: Those R’s: No spine, no nothing, empty promises, and mean lies.
FFT: re: We are. The R’s are savoring it.

    3.  “So to sum up: A court decided Brittney should be free, and a grand jury decided Bannon should be arrested. Some faith restored!” ~ George Takei ~
    4. “And to every other Trump sycophant ignoring or thinking about ignoring a Congressional subpoena: I hope you’re paying attention. There will be consequences for your actions.” ~ Senator Chuck Shumer ~
    5. “Six years ago, France witnessed a tragic and deadly terrorist attack in the city of Paris. We remember those whose lives were lost, and we stand against hate and extremism.” ~ Vice President Kamala Harris ~

    • TJI #1 – I will say most vaccinated people are not to the point of punching out the unvaxxed … yet.
TJI #2 – THe 13 Repubs who voted for it in the House – and Mitch McConnell and whoever else voted for it in the Senate are in deep doodoo with Donald, though.
TJI #3 – And apparently both of those happened the same day. Cool.
TJI #4 – Yes, now that the DC District has a Senate=confirmed head instead of an acting one, I think there will. I hope there will be ebough

Mother Jones: Good information, Wish more would care and do more about the environment, waters, creatures. etc.
C&L: Shame on Kansas. Hiding facts aren’t the way. Racist bas*ards.
AP: Amazing how these rotten R’s can get away with practically anything. I’ve been signing petitions to have him expelled and will continue to do so till justice is served.
Food for Thought: Because we care and want things done.
Glad you were all ready to go visit Virgil. Hope you and Virgil have a pleasant time together., that your drive goes well.
Please let us know when you get home.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

  3. Hi all! I pulled into the drivewy abut 4:40 pm, just 8 minutesto sunset.  Of course, now, as I type, sunset is over, civil twilight is over, and even nautical twilight is half hour.    Good visit, Virgil returns all greetings, and I’ll have more detail in the morning.

  4. Glad you had a nice visit with Virgil and made it back safely.
Hope you can relax from you long day.
    Take care.

  5. Comment from Mitch –

‘Toon: And they are keeping him very busy…with their own!MJ: I. like most people, love sea otters.  I missed an opportunity to get a pic of a sad otter, in Alaska, in 2015.
Your spin on messing with nature, is spot-on!
Kansas: Frigging idiots!  But, it could be good political strategy, in these days of flaming idiocy!  (pun, not intended)
GOP hypocrisy: What else is new?
FFT: People outside of Liberal Metro Areas are nervous, anxious and scared that people who really care about people, and the world, might gain power.
    Mitch

  6. As always, I’m glad to hear your trip went well and so did your visit, Joanne.

MJ: Everything in nature is interrelated and kept in balance, but this balance is constantly disturbed, by nature itself but most often by human interference. Then, given enough time, nature, through evolution, will adapt and find a new balance. But human interference is so strong, that complex nature is no longer capable of adapting to it but in the most negative ways.

C&L: Welcome back to the 1930s, America.

AP: One wrong tweet about them and the GQP plays the victim but after an avalanche of those about Democrats and they’re told to get over it, move on and relax.

FFT: Because we don’t know how to change it.

  7. Glad that you got home safe and sound.
AND that you had a good visit with Virgil.
    Thanks for your update, Joanne.
