Yesterday, Virgil and I had a good visit, and I got home (and changed and the mail in) but about 6:30 He returns all greetings. It was a better than avergae visit (tey’re all good).I don’t want to break his confidentiality, but he has been having very vivid nightmares lately – so vivid he calls me he tells me what happened in the dream as something that really happened, when it’s impossible. Yesterday was the first time we ever talked about one during a visit, and was able to associate the scariness of the dreams to an actual time period in his life (before we met) which was both sad and scary for real. I hope this knowledge opens up his ability to deal with it better.

Vice News – Capitol Police Officer Arrested for Aiding January 6 Rioter
Quote – Officer Michael A. Riley, an officer with more than two decades on the force, was charged with obstruction of justice for Facebook messaging an alleged rioter and warning them to delete posts that said they’d been in the Capitol. Riley is the first Capitol officer who’s been arrested for charges stemming from the January 6 riots, according to the U.S. Capitol Police. According to the indictment, Riley friended a man on Facebook who’d posted selfies and other evidence that he was in the Capitol during the riots and warned him to take the posts down so as to avoid possible charges. He identified himself as a Capitol officer “who agrees with your political stance,” and told him to “take down the part about being in the building.”
Click through fpr details. I have no words. Well, maybe one – “Goodbye.”

Politico – Law enforcement’s use of force against Jan. 6 conspiracy suspects draws heat — and credit
Quote – FBI agents had just found a cache of firearms during a search at the Nashville home of Eric Munchel — the body-armor-clad Capitol rioter famously photographed carrying zip ties in the Senate chamber on Jan. 6 — when the bureau issued a consequential warning. The FBI warned that police departments seeking to detain Jan. 6 suspects should “exercise caution and consider use of SWAT when affecting the arrest of individuals who displayed body armor or other armament during criminal activity conducted at the US Capitol.”
Click through for story. I was to see a swat team arrest Mo Brooks.

The Hill via MSN et al. – Sen. Whitehouse blasts Alito speech: ‘You have fouled your nest, not us’
Quote – During his speech, Alito took particular exception to what he characterized as media distortions that feed into a false portrayal of the court as a “dangerous cabal.” But Whitehouse said the court’s deteriorating standing among the public has been largely self-inflicted. He ticked off a number of court rulings that he said demonstrates a pattern in which the court’s decisionmaking fits neatly with the interests of well-heeled Republican donors.
Click through for more back-and-forth, and also more sources. I would have one tiny grammatical quibble … but if Sen. Whitehouse wants to say “us” when “we” is correct, he has my permission. With him, it’s the substance which counts. And no one could possibly misunderstand his meaning in context.

  1. Glad that your visit went well. I sure hope that Virgil gets help and feels better by talking about his dreams and his concerns.
    Cartoon: Yep, of course.
Vice: 20 years on the force, and then he does that?? Shameful and disgusting behavior.
Politicio: Glad to see they’re ‘throwing the book’ at these January 6th suspects. They deserve everything coming to them, imho.
The Hill: Excellent! Good for Sen Whitehouse and his remarks.
FFT: (D’s) – Nope! not even.

THIS JUST IN: TJI  When Bannon defies the subpoena, Congress should BOTH refer him to DOJ for prosecution AND use its inherent power of contempt to compel his testimony in real time. These two vehicles for forcing testimony are NOT mutually exclusive.  ~ Glenn Kirshner ~
    2. “After staff members died from COVID-19, Waco ISD vows to keep mask mandate in defiance of Gov. Greg Abbott’s order.” ~ Kevin Reynolds ~
    3. “Important read this morning in The NY Times: Black Americans were once far less likely than white Americans to be vaccinated. But a wave of pro-vaccine campaigns and a surge of virus deaths have narrowed that gap, experts say.” ~ Yamiche Alcindor ~
    4. “The Biden White House has rejected the latest request by former President Trump to use executive privilege to shield from lawmakers a subset of documents requested by the House committee investigating Jan. 6, per a new letter.” ~ Kaitlan Collins ~
    5. “90% of Americans support lowering prescription drug costs. It doesn’t get much more bipartisan than that! Let’s get it done.” ~ Amy Klobuchar ~

    • TJI #3, 4 & 5 – All are EXCELLENT NEWS!

    • TJI #1 – Glenn also said that yes, if they use inherent contempt, it’s going to be litigated, but that is not na bad thing. And I would add that litigation doesn’t mean he has to be allowed to be walking around. They can keep him locked up while litigating, And tthat is definitely not a bad thingh Or, if he “purges the contempt” by testifying, that’s an even better thing.
TJI #2 – Good for them.
TJI #3 – Narrowed is good. Eliminated would be even better. Since so many RWNJs are white, I would really prefer to see a gap the other way, if there’s going to be one at all.
      TJI #4 – Yup.  18
      TJI #5 – Yup.  03

    • TJI#2: Good for them. Shows they care for their employees.
TJI#3: Wonderful news. Pray they continue getting vaccinated. It’s a most for out country.
TJI#4: Good for President Biden. tRUmp doesn’t deserve any type of help whatsoever.
TJI#5: I’ve been signing petitions daily, weekly, monthly and for years regarding prescription costs. Even when my mother was still alive over 24 years ago, I was calling politician, insurances about the high cost of meds.  I’m not one who use meds, except when necessary like infections, surgeries, etc. but do give a damn about these companies ripping people off.

  2. Comment from Mitch –

I do not “get” the ‘toon.
VN: It seems to not matter that some people who “work” for law and order” can’t be bothered to live that way!Politico: “The FBI’s Jan. 10 recommendation to weigh SWAT teams for the arrest of people who used tactical gear during the insurrection “doesn’t strike me as particularly troubling….”  ME NEITHER!
Hill/MSN: SCOTUS has definitely brought the shame on themselves.
FFT: That would be the GQP’s response!
    Mitch

    • “Republicans’ kind of cave-in” would be one in which as many eople as possible were killed.  You can see some of the bodies if you ar elooking for them.

  3. Cartoon: Shameful.
Vice News: Heard about him yesterday on CNN yesterday.  To sacrifice over 20 years of service for tRump, is totally insane. He’s a disgrace to our country and his fellow officers.
Politico: I too am glad that they’re hitting these violent rioters hard. We watched it live and seen they did have guns, rifles, and other types of deadly items as they entered the Capital. I pray that they’re prosecuted to the fullest for everything they did that day.  Hopefully tRump and all of his buddies will be included too.
The Hill: I agree with Senator Whitehouse.
Food for Thought: Don’t they wish??? Sorry to tell them, we’ll continue fighting even harder.
Glad that you had a nice visit with Virgil yesterday. I hope with him speaking out to you about what these dreams he’s been having, it will help him feel better. I’m sure you had your own suggestions on how he could address them. I’ll pray that he sleeps better too.
My one older laptop that was cracked, died this morning. I had a 1TB hard drive in it. Plus had upgraded it to Window 10 a couple of years ago. I tried to take it apart to see if a wire got loose, but wasn’t able to get too far. I did take the hard drive out of it. Considering buying a external case for it, plus the one type of cord, so I can somehow copy or use the data from it.
Hope your day was pleasant and that you were able to catch up on your rest today.
By the way, I did see your message about the scheduling you go thru to see Virgil. Didn’t realize they cared of people go two same days in a role.  Wonder why?
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

    • Sounds like an excellent idea on the hard drive!  I hope that works well for you.  Do you shop locally for that?  If I were looking for a hard drive case I’d start at Tiger Direct online.  They also have cables, but I also have shopped at “Show Me Cables” on line.  But you may have your own favorite stores.

Before CoVid, there was no problem going two days in a row – and than they had to change that to two days in a weekend provided one was a Sunday, just doe to the difficulty of gettin the visitors to fit in the room.  Then came CoViD.. First all visitation ws stopped, and then when it was obvious normal wasn’t coming any time soon, they put it back in and mandated 25% of capacity.  In order to make that work, they had to set up a rotation.  So if you’re in the first quarter and have visitatin Friday this week, you will get it again Saturday next week,  Sunday the week after that, and the following week you won’t get any, to that groups 2, 3, nd 4 can all have their turns.  I truly don’t see how they could have been any fairer about it.  The change this time cme because the groups are by where there cell is – and between the last visit and this visit they moved him to adifferent area with a different schedule..  He likes his new cellmate, and he hasn’t liked all his cellmates by a long shot, so I wouldn’t complain – not that I would anyway because it mostly would only make things harder for him, but for this I wouldn’t even want to.

  4. Thanks Joanne–about 640 or so charged out of about 2500 with grounds to charge; about 250 of those in videos attacking police not yet charged.Such domestic terrorism with evidence of weapons, etc. is a time when SWAT and heavier equiping is justified–not routine warrants, low level drug crimes, etc.
Whitehouse always does his homework and thus his claims are supported by evidence that would stand up in court–not so Alito sadly.  Power does not like to hear the truth spoken to them.
GOP playbooks do not play well to voters these days–wonder when Mitch will realize that.  The answer for many voters is to vote out and/or primary those preventing the essential reform efforts mentioned in the cartoon.

  5. I’m glad you had to opportunity to talk with Virgil about his vivid nightmares and be of help to him while being there in person. You being the only visitor must have contributed to that. I hope you have the chance to support him during your future visits.

I’m too late to comment further here or on the video thread, something that may happen more often in the coming two weeks due to a lot of travelling during the daytime. But I’ll be reading and watching in the nighttime, so thank you for posting, Joanne.

    • I’ve been helping him in phone calls, but without this piece of information I ws only able to relieve his anxiety until the next dream. Now I may be able to help better. I think you’re right aboutbeing the only visitor helping o ring that out. In fact, that thought accurred to me while I was driving home.

  6. that cartoon is so sad, but true….too many do give up and then go vote for the GOP who have no ideas, no plans, no wish to help…..

    • People who are unobservant enough, or gullible enough, or just plain dumb enough, not to realize what the GOP is doing and double down against it deserve what they get.  Unfortunately, they also impose what they get on the rest of us … and we deserve better.
