Yesterday, I watched my Governor’s live press conference on COViD in Colorado. He was accompanied by two doctors, a family practitioner and a pediatricition who is something of an authority in Pediatric epidemiology. The latter said something I really want to share: that, given the transmissibility of the Delta varient, if one is not vaccinated, it is not a question of whether he or she will contract the disease, but when. That may not sway as many people as it should, but it may reach a few.

The Conversation – What is the Synod of Bishops? A Catholic priest and theologian explains
Quote – The topic? How the church can learn to rely more fully on this kind of consultation-and-discussion process – how it can become more “synodal” in its governance. Throughout the centuries, the Roman Catholic Church has held many gatherings called “synods” – but seldom one this sweeping in its potential consequences…. In part, it is designed to make church governance more open and inclusive of all its members.
Click through if you like. Pope Francis, like me, is old enough to rememner Pope John XXIII and Vatican II – and that much of the progress Vatican II made has been rescinded. This looks like he is trying to accomplish something which cnnot be rescinded so easily.

Wonkette – Why Were Capitol Police So Unprepared For The January 6 MAGA CHUD Invasion?
Quote – A former senior official in the US Capitol Police just released a scathing letter to Congress that places blaming squarely on the heads of Assistant Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman and acting Assistant Chief Sean Gallagher. The anonymous official accuses Pittman and Gallagher of ignoring an intelligence report they received on December 21 that specifically warned about a potential riot at the Capitol. It was reportedly similar to intel the FBI provided the department on January 5, which according to the Gregorian calendar is prior to January 6.
Click through for story and video footage. The reason is pretty much what you’d think, and pretty much the same as with 9/11 – failure to pass on intelligence. This article is not in Wonkette’s signature style, but is pretty well straight.

Law and Crime – Murder Defendant in 2014 Killing Asks Trial Judge to Officiate Wedding
Quote – To be fair, both marriage and criminal trials are transformative life events. But one Pennsylvania murder defendant has gone so far as to ask his trial judge to officiate his wedding, according to The Associated Press…. “We’ll take care of it next week,” the judge said in court. He did not say no…. Prosecutors offered no objections.
Click through for details. If you like “you just can’t make this stuff up” stories, Law and Crime was on fire yesterday, and most of them should still be on the front page today.

  1. What is the Synod of Bishops?

Less Talking – More Listening.  Sounds like a good start.

Why Were Capitol Police So Unprepared For The January 6 MAGA CHUD Invasion?

From the article, I think this is the key question:

Pittman testified that the Capitol Police knew that armed extremists might come to the Capitol to disrupt the vote and certain precautions were taken. If that’s true, the question is why police across the country seemed more prepared to defend a local CVS from rioters than Capitol Police were to secure the US Capitol.

PS: I hate when they use those “in” acronyms that many oldsters probably don’t know – like CHUD: cannibalistic, humanoid underground dwellers (a sci-fi movie)

Well, you don’t see that everyday.

  2. Read about that this morning. I will not be seeing Abbott doing or saying what your governor has shared w/info on the Delta variant. Truth be told. Texas’ shame.
Cartoon: So sad, with millions dying. “These actions culminated in the German attack on Poland of September 1, 1939, and the outbreak of World War II.” ~ Library of Congress ~
The Conversation: Interesting. Time will tell in what will happen within the Catholic churches and dioceses all over the world and it’s involvement to parishioners and clergy, with talks and meetings. I remember growing up with Pope Pius XII, and wanting to be an altar ‘boy’. Didn’t happen. lol
Wonkette: A very frightening day. The last sentence says it all, imho.
Law & Crime: What in the sam hill ?? Crazy!
    FFT: Yep. Pretty much!

This just in: “Governor Abbott’s executive order banning mandates and Governor DeSantis, essentially banning the implementation of mandates fit a pattern that we’ve seen of putting politics ahead of public health!

    • John Pavlovitz
      Update 2 hours ago:

Recovery update:”Meeting with neurosurgeon today to assess my progress/bloodwork 2 weeks-post surgery. Hoping to get some good news.Feeling really well. Have slept 18 hours over the past 2 nights and feel my body getting stronger.Prescheduled posts until tonight.Love you all.”

      • John and Trae both use that same signoff.  And I believe it from both of them.  (There are people from whom I wouldn’t believe it.)

      • Hope John’s visit with his neurosurgeon goes well today. From what’s he’s telling us about being able to sleep 18 hours the last two nights and feeling stronger each day, it sounds likes he’s definitely improving. Will continue to pray for him.  Thanks Pat for the update.

    • TJI #1 – A very sad pattern.
TJI #2 – Isn’t that thr truth! And that’s assuming they are heard at all.
TJI #3 – Good. Especially the fully vaccinated part.
TJI #4 – I can’t exactly say I was taught – but I was certainly brought up to believe – that it is normal people who do terrible things, and that it was my responsibility to learn whatever I needed to know and do whatever it takes NOT to become one. That’s the message I’d like to see taight. Would that make children uncomfortable or guilty? I can’t say that I was totally comfortable, but I never felt personal guilt. Personal responsibility, yes. Where is the “party of personal responsibility” now?
TJI #5 – This could mean a lot of things, some good, some not so much

Addendum – See her comment in the video thread – Lona is either preparing to evacuate or possibly already evacuating.

    • TJI #2: Truth. And if it’s a good idea they voiced, it’ll first be ignored and than put forward as his idea.

TJI #4: “White washing” is exactly what it is.

Thanks for all the well wishes, but I didn’t need to leave my house. In fact there seems to be a dome across the area where I live. Storms with hail and flooding rains have raged around us several times, but besides strong winds and thunder we only had a few drops. To be precise, we’re still in a drought while around us it has ended. But the danger isn’t over yet until early Saturday morning and new cells are expected next week. Our weather forecasters are on the brink of declaring a La Niña, so lots of cells like this passing this summer with some hurricanes (unusual for this part of the country) thrown in for some extra excitement. Let’s hope blackouts and communication breakdowns are the worst of it.

  3. Comment from Mitch –

    ‘Toon: Right up Donald’s alley!
Conversion: Cannot access, of late.Wonkette: I am of the onion that Trump had signaled the leaders of the various “forces” to not provide intelligence to their own people.
L&C: Not getting to see the full page.
    Mitch

  4. Cartoon: Awful remembering their violent actions. After reading Mitch’s comment. have to agree that it does seem like tRump.
Conversion: Listening, seems like something the Catholic Church does need to do. Lot of evilness has been going on behind the scenes for years. Does makes one wonder where it will go or end up?
Wonkette: All week long the committee that’s looking into the January 6th insurrection, has been mentioning that there were that didn’t share the threats down the line, like they should of. Shameful.
L&C: WTF?  Rather nervy. He’s nuts.
Food for Thought: Ain’t that the flipping truth??
Glad to see that the governor there care’s for his people. Really too bad we still have idiots out there who don’t give a hoot about their lives by ignoring the warnings.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

  5. TJI# Despicable.
TJI#2: Agree. Sad but so True.
TJI#3: Great news. Heard about it last night on our local news.
    TJI#5: ??

  6. It’s truly amazing that people still shrug their shoulders when they have a 100% chance of contracting Delta COVID. Perhaps more emphasis should be put on the stories of people who ended up with long COVID and the misery it brought them.

Cartoon: Thank goodness TFG never succeeded in doing that. Not for want of trying, though.

Wonkette: The US Capitol Police may be forgiven for not acting intelligence provided on January 5. According to the Gregorian calendar that is prior to January 6 but it also is short notice. However, if similar intelligence had already been passed on on December 23, ignoring the second notice is criminal and has put lives in danger.

L&C: It looks like this murder defendant is getting a very ‘fair’ trial indeed with him being such palls with the judge and prosecution. Either that or he’s lost it competely.

FFT: How about mandating Trumpkins to wear their hats in public?
