Yesterday, my grocery delivery came quite promptly (in the first hour of a four-hour window) and I got everything put away quickly except the shelf-stable beverages – and I did get those in, and have room to store them, they’re just heavy. Also, we heard from WWWendy. Please check out yesterday’s open thread for her comment.

Short Takes –

The Hill – Biden sidesteps GOP on judicial vacancies, for now
Quote – There’s no Senate rule that requires Biden get buy-in from GOP senators on who he nominates. But a Senate precedent known as the “blue slip” gives home-state senators tremendous sway over who gets nominated for district court vacancies in their state and the power to block nominees they oppose.
Click through for explanation. In politics, everything is a gamble, but this seems reasonable.

Democratic Underground – Schmidt: The “TRUMP COUP MEMO” should be an occasion for a giant, collective, national time out.
Quote – There now exists in the public realm, documentary evidence, a written plan to kill it off and replace it with something new. It was written by the Presidents atty and presented to the President. Trump took that paper and turned it into a weapon, a poisoned shiv and stuck it into the rib cage of American Democracy. He twisted it, crazed with rage that he had been rejected and repudiated.

Twitter Threadreader – Harrowing account of effect of UNVACCINATED on hospital ICU capabilities
Quote – In August my dad was living independently in rural New Mexico, as he has for years, in a beautiful place with a view of the mountains. He got vaxxed against Covid as soon as it was available, wore masks, and was waiting out the pandemic like the rest of us. Then, he had a fall.

  1. Good for you in getting your groceries put away, so promptly.
    Cartoon: Good puppy!
The Hill: Seems like President Biden is working quickly to get this done re: the judicial nominees.
DU: YIKES! Scary times for sure, what with TOT and his cronies standing by with his orders.
TR: There are large numbers of folks who are in the same situations. What a heartbreaking story.
FFT: Liars! Their denial is sickening! Ugh!

This just in: “Thanks for the birthday wishes and for all the Powered by People volunteers who spent 49 hours this weekend registering new voters inTexas!” ~ Beto O’Rourke ~
    2. “If you didn’t use your “religion” to object to other vaccines or medications before, you don’t get to pull that card now.” ~ George Takei ~
    3. “ICYMI: Rep Liz Cheney on her past opposition to same-sex marriage, even though her sister Mary was married to a woman. “I was wrong. I was wrong. I love my sister very much, I love her family verymuch, and I was wrong. … I believe that my dad was right.” ~ Yamiche Alcindor ~
    4. “I want to be clear: We will not boost our way out of this pandemic,” CDC Director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, says, imploring the unvaccinated to get vaccinated.” ~ Jeff Zeleny ~
    5. “Scoop: Rep. Karen Bass is planning to run for mayor of LosAngeles. Announcement could come as soon as next week.” ~ Tyler Pager ~

    • TJI #2 – Yeah, but they’ll try

TJI #3 – Good she’s seen the light.

TJI #4 – This is what’s really scary, because I don’t think there’s a solution on how to convince willfully ignorant Trumpkins to get vaccinated.  *sigh*

    • TJI #1 – It would appear the day was happy. Good. Great, actually.
TJI #2 – At least on (I believe church owned) hospital put out a notice to that effect, and even specified some meds, including Tylenol, they would not be allowed to use on the grounds they were putting forward. I don’t know how much that helped.
TJI #3 – I can respect anyone who has the guts and grit to say “I was wrong.” Not there aren’t a lot of other things she needs to learn it about … and I hope she can.
TJI #4 – Booster shots, unlike the basic vaccine, are mostly for the people getting them. The basic vaccine is for the person getting it AND for the whole country.
TJI #5 – I wish her the best.

    • TJI #2: And they can’t blame their Mum for making sure they had their shots when they were kids.

TJI #3: She must be one of the first Republicans admitting she was wrong in public. Of course the GQP will make her out to be a false Republican for just that.

  2. My booster shot arm is still sore – but much better.  My first COVID vaccine gave me a sore arm, but the second I really had no side effects.  But the booster was really quite sore, which surprised me.

Biden sidesteps GOP on judicial vacancies, for now

I don’t think he’s “kowtowing” to the GQP as some commenters imply.  I think it’s a decent strategy to hold off on naming those from Red or split states.  What’s he got to lose?

Schmidt: The “TRUMP COUP MEMO” should be an occasion for a giant, collective, national time out. – Democratic Underground

We now not only have proof that Trump incited the 1/6/21 seditious mob, but the Eastman Memo provided proof he had an actual plan for his coup!

A Tale of Innocent Complications from COVID (Looking at all you Anti-Maskers & Anti-Vaxxers)

This is a horrifying cautionary tale of what can happen to innocent folks when a country is almost half-filled with IDIOTS!

    • I’m sorry about your arm, and glad it’s better. I realize it isn’t possible to make any valid conclusions about efficacy based on reactions, because there are too many other factors – which is too bad, because if it were, that would sound like a very effective scenario.

And I am with you on the strategy.  Get in the best possible judges where you can and put off compromising s long as possible.

  3. Cartoon: That a girl. go full stream.
The Hill: He’s got his hands full. the infrastructure bill plus this.
Democratic Underground:  What more do they need??? Prosecute, lock him up with all of his buddies and cronies too.
T.T.: Heartbreaking story. I have my feeling about people who aren’t vaccinated and are filling the ICU’s to the fullest to where emergency patients who are vaccinated are denied. I honestly wonder what would happen if it was turned around the other way and the anti vaxxed were denied? Would people think twice about getting the vaccine??
Food for Thought: Flipping tRump loving terrorists, certainly not for supporting our country.
Nice you got your tasks taken care of early. Hope your day was pleasant.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

  4. Cartoon: A little of the tickle down they’re so fond of.

TH: Again, as with so much else, we’ll have to see how this develops over time.

DU: There has been a small mountain of evidence for sedition and nothing happened. Now there’s evidence for a coup, for all to see. Now guess what will happen.

TT: There are far too many of these heartwrenching stories about and we can expect many more to come. I’ve no patience left for those who won’t get vaccinated or worse, prevent others from getting the jab. And then checking into hospitals demanding treatment when they get the virus through their own stupidity, denying vaccinated people treatment for what should be normal in a healthcare system. Each hospital should be made to keep a certain percentage of their ICU beds AND care available for ‘normal’ emergency care and those vaccinated but who got COVID should be given priority to the unvaccinated.

FFT: The scariest thing here is that Trumpkins really want to believe it.
