Law & Crime – North Carolina Court Issues Permanent Injunction Against State’s Voter ID Law Because of ‘Discriminatory Purpose’ Against Black Residents
Quote – “The majority of this three-judge panel now concludes that the evidence presented to the Court, when viewed in the totality of circumstances, points to the conclusion that S.B. 824 was enacted in part for a discriminatory purpose and would not have been enacted in its current form but for its tendency to discriminate against African American voters,” the court concluded… “[T]his Court permanently enjoins the law in full,” the judges noted.

Reuters – Amid high security, small pro-Trump crowd rallies at U.S. Capitol
Quote – About 100 to 200 protesters showed up, some carrying the flags of the right-wing group Three Percenters over their shoulders. It was far fewer than the 700 people organizers had expected and the thousands who brought mayhem to the Capitol on Jan. 6. Hundreds of officers patrolled the Capitol grounds and a black eight-foot-high (2.44 m) fence that surrounded the white-domed building for about six months after the attack was reinstalled, reflecting unease about a potential repeat of Jan. 6. One hundred National Guard troops were on standby.

The Guardian – Jared Polis becomes first sitting governor to marry in same-sex wedding
Quote – “The greatest lesson we have learned over the past 18 months is that life as we know it can change in an instant. We are thankful for the health and wellbeing of our family and friends, and the opportunity to celebrate our life together as a married couple,” Polis and Reis said in a joint statement…. Reis told the Colorado Sun that Polis proposed last winter while the couple battled Covid-19 in their Boulder home. Right before Reis was hospitalized, Polis got down on one knee.

  1. Aww…I do hope that you arrive there well. Enjoy your day…have a great visit, and get back home okay!!
    Hi, Virgil !
Cartoon: What a cute picture, I did not learn this until you put it up. Like I’ve said…I learn alot here on PP.
Reuters: Best Wishes to new couple! How sweet and romantic.
    FFT: On Point!!
TJI: “Tucker Carlson got vaccinated. Very early on. And yet, every night he tells his audience NOT to get vaccinated. So yes, Tucker is dishonest. And yes, he’s a coward. But it’s worse than that. He knows what he’s doing every night is getting people killed. But he just doesn’t care. ~ Joe Walsh ~
    2. “Trump’s lawyers had a ‘law school 101 discussion’ about explaining to him how the Supreme Court works, book says.” ~ George Conway ~
    3. “Today September 17th.. it was a privilege to meet with @AlokSharma _RDG in London ahead of @COP26 to reaffirm our shared commitment to combating the climate crisis.” ~ Speaker Nancy Pelosi ~
    4. “It’s absurd that millionaires and billionaires can pay a lower rate of tax than teachers, firefighters, or law enforcement officers. President @JoeBiden’s Build Back Better plan will change that.” ~ The Democrats ~
5.” Officials confirm that over 50,000 Texas students have caught Covid-19 in only the last two (!!) weeks. Texas now leads the country in child deaths from Covid. With 59 innocent children sacrificed on Governor Abbott’s political altar.” ~ Theresa Hutchins ~      **”What a cruel and vicious bas-turd!” -pb-

    • TJI #5 – I see that Matthew McConaughey is beating Abbott in the GQP primary – and Beto is going to run again!

    • TJI #1 – Yup. Describes him perfectly (Not repeating the name because the way I spell it is NSFW.)
TJI #2 – I shold bloody hope so. I should bloody hope there was a lot of Law School 101 discussions (although he completely ignored every one.)
TJI #3 – She can do that because she is vaccinated (and, yes, I do realize, also because she is the Speaker.)
TJI #4 – Assuming it can get passed. I think the Act (large booksize in several volumes) which authorizes the IRS to function could also use a few revisions.
      TJI #5 – Not a smidgen of a conscience.

  2. GRRRR!!!

It did it again – it ATE my comments!

And again, I saw it posted – so where did they go?

    • I can’t even begin to guess.  Did you see Lona’s reply to one of these occurrences outling the app she uses which pretty well prevents this from happening?  I’ll update with a link as soon as I get a chance to search.  I think it was within the last week or so.

      Edited to add links
      It was on this page

And this is a direct link, though it takes a couple of seconds to bounce down. Still faster than scrolling.

    • I’ve had comments disappear on me too when I was sure I had published them. It usually had a picture in it, perhaps under copy rights, so I thought it was because of diligent editing by TomCat. I have no explanation for it now.

      • I can testify that TomCat would have deleted the picture only (not the comment), would hve explained why, and would have apologized for having to do so. I haveno clue either.

  3. Cartoon: Interesting, 39 years ago.
L&C: Bravo to the North Carolina court for issuing permanent junction against S B 824. I honestly hope other states do the same. Sick of seeing them, especially the rotten R’s/Goppies trying to bring any type of discriminatory/racial actions against anyone.
Reuters: Glad it didn’t turn out as bad as they thought it was going to be. Hopefully tRump and his buddies got the message that he’s no longer important, that he’s now old news.
The Guardian: Nice. They’ve been together for 18 years. Congratulations to them both. Wishing them the best.
Hope you had a nice visit with Virgil. I forgot to tell you to say “Hi” for me.
Let us know when you get back.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

  4. Worthy collection Joanne. I like the good news furthering inclusion duo alot–a sense of the solidarity for justice.  And then amid that good news sandwich:
I enjoyed hearing about how they invented a paranoid fantasy to keep people away from the rally/protest as why so small.  Not sure it would ever have been a draw without big name draws as speakers or something.

    • Thanks.  I believe the girl is their daughter, Cora.  Some of the first correspondence I ever got from him was about him taking her to Women’s Marches when she was two and three.  That’s clearly some years ago.

  5. Another good visit. You and Virgil must be very happy that you’re allowed to make up for all that lost time, Joanne.

Cartoon: I remember using it for the first time too; it must have been in the same year, on our LAN at Uni.

L&C: Though these “permanent” court decisions only last until the next higher court abolishes them, it is very good news indeed. I hope SCOTUS won’t do a quicky on this one.

Reuters: What a fiasco for TFG; it looks like there almost. were more police officers to guard the capitol than demonstrators. Another QAnon prophecy down the drain. But that won’t stop them from trying again, preferably when Congress is in session; not until TFG is indicted for his role in 6/1.

TG: I wish Polis and Reis all the best.

FFT: Rewriting history always takes a few tries.
