Yesterday it was cooler again. That and tha fact I went into it with more and better sleep than i have been getting lately ade it a good day right from the start. And then, I filled up the Short Takes quite early and even have a head start on tomorrow. So I spent some quality time untangling tangled yarns /s. OK, that really isn’t quality time … but it’s good to have it done.

Short Takes –

Second Nexus – Dems Hilariously Troll GOP Senator by Unanimously Voting for His Petty Infrastructure Amendment
Quote – Once the bill was brought to debate, the first amendment offered came from Republican Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming, who proceeded to rail against the Green New Deal—an ambitious climate policy overhaul championed by progressives as the only viable option to significantly curb the climate crisis…. [Bernie] Sanders told Barrasso: “As a supporter of the Green New Deal, I have no problem voting for this amendment because it has nothing to do with the Green New Deal.”
Click through for giggles. This is from George Takei, though it may have been published elsewhere.

The 19th – Cuomo’s exit puts two women in New York’s highest offices
Quote – Lt. Gov Kathy Hochul will soon become New York’s first woman governor, ushering in a historic first for women’s political leadership at the state level. New York state Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins is next in line to replace Hochul as lieutenant governor. She would be the first Black woman to serve in the role in New York — and her appointment to the position would mark the first time in U.S. history that a state has been led by a woman governor and a woman lieutenant governor. Stewart-Cousins was already the first woman Senate majority leader in the state’s history.
Click through for story. Talk about unintended consequences (which apparently aren’t always bad). Who knew Andy Borowitz was a prophet (in the colloquial sense)?

Crooks and liars – YouTube Suspends Rand Paul For 7 Days Over Mask Disinfo
Quote – Senator Rand Paul, who has already had COVID, used an online video to attack Dr. Fauci and all CDC guidelines regarding masks. That got him kicked off YouTube for a week.
Click through for the rest. I guess after you suspend a former President, suspending a Senator comes easier. (Also, Marjorie’s off Twitter for a week.)

  1. Cartoon: What a bummer.
SN: What Mr. Sanders so aptly said.
The 19th: How wonderful, great, remarkable, and fantastic news!!
    C&L: Ahhhh….. Giggle, LOL
FFT: Wow! I just can’t wrap my head around the fact that some are not getting vaccinated. geezz…
We’re in the mid 90’s here. Doing my outside chores in the a.m., as the humidity is high. Hope that you have a good day, Thank you, Joanne.

TJI  “Question here – “Will Trump build a presidential library as other presidents have done? If so, will he have it at Mar-A-Lago?” Answer -“Ha Ha Ha!! Four coloring books and an etch-a-sketch do not need a library.” ~Celia M. ~
    2. Today is a day of progress, as the Senate has passed the bipartisan infrastructure package & paved the way for not only rebuilding but reimagining our infrastructure for the 21st Century. The leadership of @POTUS has seized this once-in-a-century opportunity to #BuildBackBetter.” ~ Speaker Pelosi ~
    3. “Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear just issued a mask mandate for all schools in the state. This is what leadership looks like.” ~ Travis Allen ~
    4. “All five major cities in Texas are now instituting mask mandates in schools, in open defiance of Governor Abbott. Houston, Austin, and Fort Worth are ignoring his ban, as well as San Antonio and Dallas, who are also suing him. If he won’t keep kids safe, local leaders will.~ Sawyer Hackett~
    5. “Gov Cuomo resigned because his party wasn’t tolerating his conduct. Biden and national Dems called on him to resign. ~ NY State ~

    • TJI #1 – Actually he’s required to build a Presidential Library – and it’s required to contain every blessed document of his administration – which means, amonng other things, the Mueller Report and Jeffrey Clark’s letter to Georgia – and LTC Vindman’s notes on the phone call to Ukraine – you get the idea. A library like that would be a real asset to the nation – but he’s supposed to fund it – so he probably won’t. I honestly hope it gets done in spite of him.
TJI #2 – Just to address confusion, what has been passed is the “hard” infrastructure passage. Our strategy was to get this passed in a bipartisan manner so that infrastructure is on record as being budgetary, which enables us to invoke reconciliation for the “soft” part of our infrastructure goals. Yes, this is a matter of semantics, even of political theater. But that doesn’t make it a bad thing.
TJI #3 – Oh, is that what Rand Paul was being so pissy about he got himself suspended.
TJI #4 – May this state (Texas) be safe from MAGAts.

  2. Cartoon: Last one died…sad indeed.
SN: What an idiot, bArrasso is. Glad Senator Sanders took care of setting him straight.
The 19th: Two more women….good for New York.
C&L: Glad YouTube is finally taking action against these rotten R’s/GOPiggies. I hope they’ll extend his suspension. Plus get him for what his wife just did with the Covid-19 stock ordeal.
Food for Thought: Unvaccinated people are insane. If they rather die, then die. I’m not going to feel sorry for their stupidity.
Glad the weather has been descent for you. Plus nice that you’re able to enjoy some quality time doing what you like.
It’s been hot and humid here, with the humidity sticking around during the night. It’s suppose to get a little better tomorrow.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

  3. Cartoon: They’re trying to “bring back” the Tasmanian tiger – which was a dog-like creature, really – here too. But what good would that do? Stop interfering with nature and try to save animals from going extinct instead of creating a sad cash cow for a zoo.

SN: If his GQP colleagues in the Senate weren’t so stupid they’d be embarrassed by this amendment by Barrasso. For now, let them be happy with ‘scoring’ an amendment for which all Democrats voted in the name of bipartisanship.

19th: Unexpected and ironic silver lining to that cloud.

C&L: A week’s suspension is laughable. YouTube is just going through the motions to make itself look better.

FFT: Really, people are getting rewarded for being stupidly selfish now, are they? This is giving off all the wrong signals.

    • The Tazzie Tiger was a species – and could probably be brought back, but creating a gene pool would be iffy if not impossible.  Because the quagga is not a species, but a sub-species, it’s possible to bring them back through slelective breeding alone, no cloning, no GMO  – and, because breeding involves multiple individuals, even have some semblance of a gene pool.  And that is what they are working on.  The intention is to breed dnough to establish three gene pools and restore them to the wild in three geographically separated areas.  If even one thrives, that would be great.  But that kind of husbandry is not possible with an actual species.
