Yesterday it unbelievably sstayed fairly cool. Also, I may be in that golden period where, after it gets so hot, the same temps which led up to that and felt hot at the time don’t feel as hot now as they did them. Whatever it is, it’s pleasant.

DATA GEMS: How to Download the Complete Set of 2020 Census Redistricting Files for Your State
Quote: In this Data Gem, you will learn about where to find and download the complete P.L.94-171 Redistricting Data Files from the 2020 Census for your state using the Census Bureau’s File Transfer Protocol site. This is a great resource for users looking to download large data files to use with software such as Microsoft Access, SAS, SQL, Sqlite, Oracle, Tableau, ArcGIS, and more. You will also learn about some of the critical resources that will enable you to successfully work with these data.
Click through if interested. Colorado is s state which requires an independent commission to draw the districs, and it has a history of being as fair as it can be – based on the data it is given. So I won’t be looking. But it anyone does need or want to know amore about this, well – the horse’s mouth.

The Independent – ‘Occupy’ leader claims police ‘dragged’ him out of Kevin McCarthy presser for asking about Capitol riot commission
Quote – “I tried to ask @GOPLeader McCarthy a question after he decried Cuban police pickup up (sic) people in the streets,” Mr Stern tweeted. “Why does he oppose the bipartisan #January6thCommission? A Congressional staffer had four cops pick me up and drag me from the room. I still asked the question.”
Click through for deets. Despite the quotes around “dragged,” this did happen. There’s more on PolitiZoom, but not everyone can see that site.

CNN – House select committee begins taking over January 6 investigation from other committee
Quote – The newly formed House select committee is taking the lead on investigating January 6 going forward, consolidating the investigation, as other committees looking into the matter begin handing over their work, according to a multiple sources familiar with the matter. That includes interviews with key figures related to that day that were already scheduled to meet with other committees but were postponed.
Click through for story. This is a normal thing to happen – Benghazi is just one example – but the kerfuffle about the committee selection, which resulted in the Republicans on the Select Committee being the only two who are committed to finding the truth, makes it different. Republicans on Oversight might have obstructed. Now they can’t. And the same is true for any other regular committee which has any knowledge or evidence.  GlennKirschner will go even farther in his video in today’s Video Thread.

Food for Thought – I’ve used this before in the gif version), but it fits today with the census date information.

  1. Cartoon: Figures.
The Independent: I must be on the same page as you, Joanne. This was one of my TJI’s today. Absolutely horrifying/disgusting behavior re: this reporter’s treatment for asking a question. Mr. Stern still asked his question though. Be careful.
CNN: I can’t wait to see this happen. re: the 1/6 investigation.
    Cartoon: wow!
Glad that your days are comfortable. Our weather has been rainy, (PTL), we’re @81, which is moderate for Tx. I’m glad for that. Humidity is @94% right now. Enjoy your day, and Thank you for post.

TJI: “I applaud @POTUS and @CDCgov for extending the eviction moratorium. As the delta variant continues to increase infection rates throughout the country, it is crucial that we protect families from losing their homes.” (through October 3, 2021) ~ Raul Ruiz ~
    2. “BREAKING: Journalist Grant Stern tells me he’s filing a civil rights lawsuit, for being forcibly removed from Kevin McCarthy’s press conference yesterday.” ~ Scott Dworkin ~
    3. “This victory on the eviction moratorium happened because @RepCori and people all across this country spoke out and made their voices heard. Stay in this fight – we need you.” ~ Senator Elizabeth Warren ~
    4. “If some governors aren’t willing to do the right thing to beat this pandemic, then they should allow businesses and universities who want to do the right thing to be able to do it. If your aren’t goingto help, at least get out of the way.” ~ President Joe Biden ~
    5. “Did Nazi see this coming. Trump (TOT) cards.” ~ Tomi Ahonen ~

    • TJI #1 – It’s more limited than the original, but it’s estimated it will help 90% of those who need it. I am certainly glad of it. (Cancelling or at least a moratorium on student debt could help too.)
TJI #2 – Well, he certaily should. I hope there’s video.
TJI #3 – Amen to that.
TJI #4 – Bless Joe’s heart, there he goes again, expecting Repulicans to have any sense.
TJI #5 – On the same page as Nameless too, I see.

    • TJI#1: Was happy to hear that they finally approved it for a couple more months.
TJI#2: Good for him. No one should have to be subjected to that type of physical abuse/harassment.
TJI#3: Bless Cori for fighting for the people.
TJI#4: You tell them Joe! What really gets me now, is seeing the surge in Covid-19 cases in Florida just this pass week, especially among the younger ones. I guess dEsatan would rather have lots of dead children than to have a mask mandate. He’s insane.
      TJI#5: Yep, tRump’s a true communist.

      • Actually … Trump** could never be a communist, because true communism is indistinguishable from true Christianity.

Yes, I realize no “communist” goverment has ever looked like that – but that’s not because of communism – it’s because of the inability of any government to keep communism pure.

  2. Cartoon: Yup, mindless obstruction.      DATA: Thanks. Ohio SUPPOSEDLY will be drawing fairer districts. We voted for it years ago. Paws crossed. LOL!       Independent: Hope this is spread widely. Irony dead & gone. McCarthy CANNOT be Speaker. TJI: I had an interesting dream last night where I was hanging out w/Pelosi.         CNN: I/we have a dream—–truth out and justice served.       FFT: clown puppet sure loved top map! Doubt he’s ever been to most of red parts unless they could round up a few rubes for him to fleece.     Take care, all.

    • I wish I had dreams like that!  I am envious!

There is one show on my classical radio station whose host’s voice just grates on me, so I keep a list of things to listen to or watch on the net to fill the time.  Last night I watched Season 7 Episode 4 of Findig Your Roots.  One of the guests, Chris Meloni, turned out to be a “DNA cousin” of the Speaker. His pride in learning that was palpable.

(A “DNA cousin” means you have a string on one of your chromosomes which is identical to the other person’s, and, though we don’t yet know how to identify the ancestor, that means that somewhere on the tre you have one in common.)

  3. Cartoon: Yep, this R is so full of sh*t and needs a whole crew to help him.
The Independent: Really getting ugly that they can’t ask their questions without getting harassed. mCCarthy and his R buddies just can’t stand speaking or hearing the truth. They just want to hide the facts/truth.
CNN: Great news. Glad to hear that they’re moving forward with finding out more about the January 6th insurrection. Hopefully they’ll be able to prosecute many, especially the ones who planned it, etc.
Food for Thought: Sure does make a difference.
Happy to hear that your weather is still being kind there. Hope it continues.
Have a nice evening. Thanks Joanne

  4. Cartoon: One of TomCat’s best, I think.

DG: This short take was of no direct interest to me but it reminded me that the Australian 2021 Census is held on August 10 and I hadn’t received any information yet. This will be my first census ever. The Dutch are registered at birth at the council they first live in and they will get a Citizen ID which will link them to all the systems it will become part of in their life. The Bureau of Statistics then can access these systems on the basis of anonymity.

TI: McCarthy is getting a bit touchy, isn’t he? People seem to be getting too close to the truth.

CNN: It makes sense to put all information together and leave the investigation in the hands of one committee. No confusion, no misinformation, no information ‘lost’, everything in the hands of the only committee to be trusted to get to the bottom (or top, if you like) of 1/6.

FFT: This calls for a new way of mapping altogether. The way it is now is blatantly creating misinformation, if not disinformation. Politics is about people, i.e. the number of people, not about land or state, so that is what should be represented in the graphics.
