Yesterday was hotter than expected, and it’s supposed to be cooler today. We’ll see. Today is Colorado Day, as you can tell from the cartoon. Colorado was admittied to the United States on August 1, 1876. It is also my birthday, and I am 76 today. I believe that makes me the “Oldest Inhabitant.” I will pop the closing credits from the film “The Music Man” down at the bottom, since it features the song “76 Trombones,” in celebration. I had hoped to do more, but my technology has failed me. I’ll probably get it set up eventually.

Short Takes –

Raw Story – California MAGA rioter nabbed by feds after his own church prayer group turns him in
Quote – “On or about January 30, 2021, the FBI received an electronic tip from Witness #1, who stated that a member of his/her church prayer text group, Glenn Brooks, boasted of his active participation in the January 6, 2021, events at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Witness #1 also stated that Brooks sent photos of his attendance at the Capitol to the church text group that included other people at the riots/protest and a selfie photo of himself inside the Capitol,” an FBI special agent attested.
Click through if you like – there’s not much more detail, but there are pictures. Truning in terrorists is becoming quite the fashion. And it highlights the inability of these people to grasp that they are not supported by “everyone.”

New Mexico Political Report – Democrat Manny Gonzales wants to be mayor. Republicans run his campaign.
Quote – Both Keller and Gonzales sought public financing from the city, which required each candidate to collect $5 contributions from at least 3,779 residents–– 1% of all Albuquerque registered voters–– in order to qualify for over $600,000 in taxpayer money. The Albuquerque city clerk withheld public financing from Gonzales on July 9th, after Keller campaign manager Neri Holguin filed two ethics complaints alleging forged signatures and election fraud by the Gonzales campaign. Gonzales’s campaign has been appealing the decision and has also filed suit against the city. It remains unclear whether or not the campaign will receive the funding. Representing Gonzales is Carter B. Harrison IV, who has also worked as an attorney for the Republican Party of New Mexico. A decision is expected on Tuesday.
Click through for more. It’s not quite the full story. Manny has subsequently admitted that signatures on his petitions were forged, presenting the defense “Everybody cheats.” Though he is regsitered as a Democrat, I feel sure TC would have given him a parade. I apologize for not being up to that.

Wonkette – Montana Anti-Vaxx Law: ‘Religious Exemption’ For Masks But Not For ‘Not Letting Kids Die In Your Own Home’
Quote – When my husband fetched me from California as his war bride coming up on seven years ago now, I knew going in I was moving to a red state. But we were both under the impression it was a different kind of red: less Jesus-y, more libertarian-ish, with a labor background, a good state Constitution (Robyn frequently points out it’s the only state in the nation that doesn’t have “at will employment”), and a cadre of sportsmen (hunters and fishermen) who make damn sure we keep public access to our magnificent open space.
Click through for the first-person story. I’m with Becca. I don’t have kids, but if I did, I would not let anyone into my home with them unless I knew the person was vaccinated, or would wear a mask (or both).

Food for Thought

Lyrics
Seventy six trombones led the big parade
With a hundred and ten cornets close at hand.
They were followed by rows and rows of the finest virtuosos,
The cream of ev’ry famous band.
Seventy six trombones hit the counter point,
While a hundred and ten cornets played the air.
Then I modestly took my place as the one and only bass,
And I oompahed up and down the square.

  1. MAGA rioter nabbed after his own church prayer group turns him in

    Some prayers DO get answered!

Democrat Manny Gonzales wants to be mayor. Republicans run his campaign.

    Politics does make strange bedfellows

Montana Anti-Vaxx Law: ‘Religious Exemption’ For Masks But Not For ‘Not Letting Kids Die In Your Own Home’

I thought it was going to be about some end-of-life law.  But the law is even dumber than I thought it was going to be.

She doesn’t cover it, but are there any exceptions if you have a child with cystic fibrosis or leukemia or other immune-comprised issue?  Surely there must be some accommodation to require a babysitter/nanny/housekeeper to be vaccinated if you have those issues to deal with.

    Food for Thought

The eternal adolescence of the libertarian mind.

    • All prayers are answered.  Sometimes the answer is “no.”  (And sometimes the answer is “You gott be effin kidding me!  Hahahahahahahahaha!”

  2. How lovely!
Great Cartoon, AND! Happy Birthday to you, Joanne!
RS: Gets better and better, especially with the technology in finding these MAGA people. Isn’t it grand??
Montana: Like how this lady writes. I don’t have the answers…but do get vaccinated, and/or mask up. I’m worried about the kids going back to school in a couple weeks, what with Gov’nah Abbott being on the backside of the boat, and not imposing a mask mandate, even though I’ve read that COVID is rising in numbers.
    FFT: What Nameless wrote. Amen.
Video: Happy Birthday! Great song, and video! Joanne. Enjoy your Day!

THIS JUST IN: “The former Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows is talking as if there’s a shadow presidency going on (there isn’t), at a time when there’s a conspiracy theory that Trump will be re-instated, (he won’t).”
~ Maggie Habberman~  NYT WH Correspondent
    2. “All of the committee members – Democrats and Republicans – were interested in getting to the truth. It was so breathtaking in that it was how a hearing should be done. A very different experience than if we had the McCarthy disrupters on the committee.” ~ Adam Schiff ~
    3. “Let me be clear: Anti-Semitism has no place in the State Department, in my Administration, or anywhere in the world. It’s up to al of us to give hate no safe harbor, and stand up to bigotry wherever we find it.”
    ~ President Joe Biden ~

    4. “Any witnesses who do not comply with a House subpoena re: the events of 1/6 must be imprisoned for contempt until they do. Emphasis on imprisoned. It is the only way to compel them to comply.”~ Ms. Americn Pie ~

    5. “No one should be evicted from their home until every insurrectionist is evicted from Congress.” ~ Jeri D. ~

    • TJI #1 – A decent and honorable man in the White House and they don’t know how to handle it. Their GodEmperor has always claimed decency and honor were onlyfor losers. So they’re trying to pain him as a loser. Ridiculaous, yet scary – just like them.
TJI #2 – I know that feeling of skittish disbelief when some dreaded thing is finally gone. (especially when it’s still there in Cogress outside the Committee.)
TJI #3 – Don’t forget Arabs are also Semitic people.
TJI #4 – Oh please oh please oh please.
TJI #5 – Also true but, heartbreakingly, out of reach.

P.S. Rebecca is the owner and editor of Wonkette, and her style has kind of subbed off on her other staff, like Evan and Stephen, and also on her husband “Shypixekl” who now writes the newsletter. It’s a kind of fun way to get even bad news.

    • TJI #1 – I don’t care which delusional “cabinet members” attended the meeting in Bedminster w/ The Former Guy and Mark Meadows: There is NO “government-in-exile” because YOU LOST!

And for Donnie, Meadows and any others to so contend, that then constitutes a seditious conspiracy!

      TJI #4 – “Subpoenas R Us”!

  3. RS: “…that they are not supported by everyone,” seems indicative of their general distance from reality.  Thinking that they are patriots, and supporting the most criminal, and constitutionally dismissive president ever, is somewhat mind-blowing.
Manny: Who does he think he is, Trump?
Montana: Gov. Gianforte…isn’t he the clown who got violent with someone during the run-up to his election?  Oh, yeah, you know, I’m so old I was there when God said “Yo, no masks on my watch!”
    FFT: Perfect!

  4. TJI#1: Talk about delusional!  Or, is he just kissing up to HIS delusional god-thing?
    TJI#2: Amen!
    TJI#3: Amen!
    TJI#4: Amen!
    TJI#5: Have I said “Amen?”

  5. Thanks Joanne. Love the prayer group story in Huntington Beach, a community that had a substantial number of new residents who were Asian in the last couple decades of last century.  Reportedly stirred some things up at the time–is that the start of this man’s journey down the rabbit hole?
When I saw Manny’s story I wondered if he was former GOP who changed party due to DT…and that that is where he got the idea everyone cheats.
Montana is indeed an interesting mix with pushing mining companies to actually clean up their toxic messes and history of limiting money in elections, too.
I’ve been giving thanks that the heat dome this time ends to the north of me and thus our triple digit temperatures have not had heat warnings attached–they are indeed vicious to even walk a few feet without shad the whole way midday.

  6. Cartoon: A very special day in more ways than one.
RS: I applaud the members of the prayer group.
Manny: Makes you wonder about him?
    Wonkette: Ditto Nameless’ comment.
Food For Thought: Again, ditto Nameless’ comment.
I’m running late this evening. Went to the see the Padres play Colorado. It was nice and pleasant today.
Hope you enjoyed your special day today and that it cooled off some for you.Take care. Thanks Joanne

  7. Cartoon: I’m sure the US was happy with Colorado joining; it’s so beautiful.

RS: It must be painful to be turned in by people you know but to be handed over to the feds by members of your prayer group must be excruciating. The fact that he was at the Capitol and then boasted about it to his church group only goes to show what terrible people skills these insurrectionists have.

NMPR: Well we know about political infiltrators Manchin and Sinema, so it was to be expected that more of them would crawl from under their rocks when they succeeded to get a seat in the Senate. I just don’t understand the people who vote for them; they surely are infiltrators too. Wouldn’t it be so much easier for Republicans to vote for other Republicans? The way Gonzales’supporters forged signatures by the dozen makes me think this is just another dark scheme, like voter suppression and gerrymandering, thought up by Republicans.

Wonkette: Don’t get this Atheist started on this.

FFT: Considering how many Americans still follow the former guy, too many will have no problem trying to reconcile this in their tiny brains.
