Yesterday was also fairly hot, but at least I went into it with a decent amount of sleep beforehand … and so much material backed up from Tuesday that I was actually able to spend some time in the cooler room under the good fan resting a bit.

Mother Jones (David Corn) – Here’s a Long List of Top Republicans the 1/6 Committee Should Question
Quote – This part of the committee’s mission [to counter Donald Trump and his cult’s whitewashing disinformation] is not that hard…. The much tougher task for the committee will be investigating what Trump and his minions did in the months, weeks, days, and even hours leading up to the assault and what actions Trump and his aides took (or didn’t take) during the seditious riot. These are key elements of the inquiry, and this is the part of the story that Trump and his henchmen do not want to be probed and publicized.
Click through for the rest. David Corn has very good political insight and doesn’t mince words.

Reuters (via US News) – U.S. Justice Dept. warns states to tread carefully in auditing elections
Quote – “I think the reason we’re issuing this as guidance is to tell jurisdictions generally that we are concerned that if they’re going to conduct these audits … they have to comply with federal law,” a Justice Department official told reporters on Wednesday, speaking on condition of anonymity. “This document sets down a marker.” The legal guidance fulfills a pledge that Attorney General Merrick Garland made in June when he vowed to aggressively enforce voting rights laws. Following that speech, the department sued Georgia, accusing the state of unlawfully violating the rights of Black voters with its new voting restrictions

NPR – 2 Colorado Police Officers Are Investigated After A Violent Arrest
Quote – A Colorado police officer has been arrested on felony charges after a video showed him using his pistol to beat a man he was attempting to arrest, choking him and threatening to kill him, and a second officer was also arrested after authorities say she failed to stop her colleague as required by a new police accountability law.
Click through, or Google for other sources. There is so much wrong with this that I can’t even.

  1. Cartoon: Oh, but of course. A beautiful island, as is Puerto Rico.
MJ: A very good informational piece. The whole R group – all liars, sneaks and thieves. ugh!
    Reuters: Get ‘er done! Finally!
NPR: How despicable an act by this police officer, and the cop witness. IANAD…but Thankfully, this man will survive from the brutal treatment he received from the cop. Both cops should serve time behind bars, be fined, and fired..imho.
FFT: I almost choked on my coffee in viewing the cartoon. Ted Cruz as potus? Nope. Nope! NOPE!!!
Good for you, in getting your rest, and staying comfortable. It’s hot as Hades here…though I’ve not been to Hell lately…LOL

This just in: TJI  U.S. pop singer Pink has offered to pay a ($1765.28 fine) given to the Norwegian female beach handball team for wearing shorts instead of the required bikini bottoms. “Good on ya, Ladies! I’ll be happy topay your fines for you!” ~ Pink ~ @the European Beach Handball Championships
    2. ” Americans have access to the best vaccines in the world, bar none. There’s no reason to refuse the strong tools available to us: We have got to get our neighbors vaccinated and help protect those(young children, some of those undergoing chemotherapy, etc.) who currently cannot.” ~ Lloyd Doggett ~
    3. “From 1946-1958, the U.S. conducted 67 nuclear weapons tests—equivalent to 1.6 Hiroshima-sized bombs every day—in the Marshall Islands. We still haven’t told the Marshallese people all that we know about the harm from those tests. It’s past time we deliver justice.” ~ Katie Porter ~
    4. “Beto O’Rourke and the Reverend William Barber are leading demonstrators on a 27 mile, 4 day walk from Georgetown, Texas to the Texas State Capitol in Austin, in a march to demand federal voting reform and combat what they call voter suppression efforts.” ~ Dinah Chukwu ~
    5. “Anita Bryant’s granddaughter is marrying a woman. Just thought you might want to know.” ~ Galen Floyd Brooks ~

    • TJI #1 – A small sum for Pink, but a huge gesture. Good for her and the team.
TJI #2 – Yes, the people with conditions which preclude getting it are most vulnerable, and, if children, they are the most of the most.
TJI #3 – Multiexpletive. Way past time. Is justice even possible?
TJI #4 – Oh, wow. What a team!
TJI #5 – Someone should tell these people that LGBTQIA is God’s instrument to defeat overpopulation, and if it’s increasing, cis people have no one to blame but theirown irresponsibility. (I think this marriage is great – but you know Brooks is spreading the news to stir GQP – rmhmm.)

    • Update on the trek with Beto, and Reverend Barber. Hot, and very, very humid and sticky.

Beto – “Walked 10 hot and sweaty miles today from Round Rock to North Austin, joined for part of it by Reverend Jesse Jackson who gave us the energy and inspiration to keep it going.”

      • I really am overwhelmed by the convocation of giants on this march.  I know this is not why people are doing it, but thate who are, are going to have memories to cherish for the rest of their lives.

  2. List of Top Republicans the 1/6 Committee Should Question

Good list – only call Kimberly Guilfoyle if she SWORE she would not reprise/scream her …

Justice Dept. Warns States to Tread Carefully in Auditing Elections

Forget auditing – republicans want republican state legislatures to nullify citizens votes and insert their own.

2 Colorado Police Officers Are Investigated After A Violent Arrest

I saw that video on the news last night, and it is quite disturbing.

    Food for Thought

All for getting rid of Ted Cruz.  But I’d rather add Washington, DC than England.

    • Also, the Hearst Castle is a State park and therefore protected.  But you gotta remember Horsey learned to draw reading MAD magazine (that’s not an insult, he’s quite open about it.)

  3. Good to hear you’re managing the heat adequately, Joanne. Staying cool should have priority.

Cartoon: Still not on speaking terms, are you?

MJ: A long list of candidates for some grilling indeed. It’s going to be an even longer and hotter summer than expected. They better skip recess.

Reuters: The saying goes “better too late than never” but if this is just about auditing it is far too late. The Republicans are effectively keeping anyone deemed a Democratic voter from entering their vote altogether which makes auditing unnecessary.

NPR: These two cops got caught but how many others continue as before? One murder sentence doesn’t change a thoroughly rotten culture within the police corpses, does it?

FFT: Sensible English conservatives? Ha, if they had any, Britain would still be a part of the EU.

  4. ‘Toon: Time to grow up about cuba.
MJ: My system will not show it, but outside of Liz Cheney and Kinzinger, may be the only GQP folk who ought not be questioned.
Reuters: It’s the law, stupid, disobey at your own risk!
NPR: Bastard needs to meet Bubba, inside his very own jail cell!  His partner needs a spanking.
FFT: If Cruz got to be president, he’d move the capitol to Cancun!

  5. TJI#1: I heard something to that effect.  are bikini bottoms required for some erotic reason?  Little bit of misogyny, perhaps?  Some of both?
TJI#2: Part of being a patriot!  Acts that “The Greatest Generation” would have understood.
TJI#3: Fees up, and do what is needed to help with any medical damage going forward.
    TJI#4: Beto, and crew, rock!
    TJI#5: Karma rocks!

  6. Cartoon: All they think of is satisfying themselves.
MJ: Doesn’t surprise me seeing how many repugs are on the list. They have been trying to hide the facts and ignore the January 6 insurrection. I can’t wait till it starts happening.
Reuters: No one should be fooling around with the people’s votes/elections. They R’s have no right to changing the rules.
NPR: Despicable. When is this type of police brutality ever going to stop? I hope the one officer get prosecuted for what he did and the other one gets her ass placed on some sort of probation, since she ignored what her partner was doing.
Food for Thought: Ted cRuz doesn’t deserve to even be in the position that he currently has.
Thank goodness for our trusty indoor fans. I do use them too. I don’t run my A/C here in San Diego, due to the high cost of electricity from SDG&E. Plus when we have a Flex alert, we’re asked not to run any appliances that use a lot of electricity between 4 and 9 PM.
Had P.T. this afternoon. Then a couple of other errands. So that’s why I’m running late.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

    • The blog is here for yu any time, Colleen.  Don’t ever worry about running late – of course if it’s going tosun into days it’s good to know you’re OK.
