So, yesterday I woke up and had both phone and internet. (I woke up on the late side, but technically still morning.) That meant I could reassure everyone I am OK, but left too little time before y vaccination appointment to do much else, and I was stuck in “email jail” too. I did get the vaccination, I feel fine (if I do react, I won’t know till some time today, I am that delayed a reactor.) I did manage to get a late video thread up – if you missed it because it was so late, it’s still there, and contains two Glenn Kirschners and a Keith Olbermann.

The New Yorker – Biden’s Invisible Ideology
Quote – Biden, by contrast [with Trump**], insisted that the way to win was not to play. In the face of the new politics of spectacle, he kept true to old-school coalition politics. He understood that the Black Church mattered more in Democratic primaries than any amount of Twitter snark, and, by keeping a low profile on social media, showed that social-media politics was a mirage. Throughout the dark, dystopian post-election months of Trump’s tantrum—which led to the insurrection on January 6th—many Democrats deplored Biden’s seeming passivity, his reluctance to call a coup a coup and a would-be dictator a would-be dictator. Instead, he and his team were remarkably (to many, it seemed, exasperatingly) focussed on counting the votes, trusting the process, and staffing the government.
Click through for full analysis. I think Gopnik is absolutely right. It’s not easy to do, and not everyone could do it, but I think that, aalongside the Justice System, it’s the most likely way to lasting success.

Non-competes, banks and farms: Five key elements of Biden’s executive order
They are: 1. Boosts leverage for workers
2. Tackles concentrated corporate power
3. Aims to lower the prices of drugs
4. Looks out for consumers
5. Bringing back net neutrality
Click through for details on each. This is complex, so I’m not even considering tring to summarize it.

  1. Cartoon: Sad.
NYer: Great article. Wise move, President Biden. Thank the Lord that Joe followed his instincts on this, and wasn’t drawn into it.
The Hill: Thanks for the ‘heads up’. w/read later..
    FFT: Excellent! She rocks!!

Glad that all is well, with your shot, and your connections too. Looks like we’re going to get more rain today. Rather have rain than fires. Hope you have a good day, Joanne, and Thanks for post.

This just in:  “Every American should have equal freedom to vote.” ~Senator Jeff Merkley ~
    2. “President Biden taunted Mitch McConnell last Wednesday for having acknowledged his home state of Kentucky will receive money from the Biden administration-backed American Rescue Plan –despite McConnell not having voted for it. ~ Janet Valcho ~
    3. “When people start moving heaven and earth to block an investigation, I have to wonder if there is something to hide.” ~ Senator Angus King ~
    4. “Toyota faced a backlash after it’s corporate PAC sent checks to anti-election Republicans. The fact that the automaker caved under intensifying pressure matters.” ~ Rachel Maddow ~
    5. “Abbott’s special legislation session started July 8th, Republicans couldn’t get their terrible bills passed during the normal legislative session because Democrats blocked them. Abbott is going to keep gutting abortion access, making it harder for Texans to vote, and keeping trans kids in danger.” ~ Gilberto Hinojosa ~

  2. JD, glad you are back on-line & got ur vax. Re: Biden—–I think we were so anxious to turn the page from fascist orange that normal competency/sanity was a shock. Nice to see actual “populism” that helps regular folks w/lower Rx costs, etc.  Nutjobs here wearing gun t-shirts, still have flags, stickers for “2x impeached guy” as Pelosi sez. Ima get an action figure of her b4 Jan.6 hearings—–she’s a treasure. Great TJI as usual, PB.   Take care.

  3. ‘Toon: “They” do not give a damn!
NYorker: He did his thing, his way, and it worked.  Wonderful!
I did not know he’d produced an exec.ore, sounds good though.

  4. TJI#1: Sad that it has to be insisted upon!
TJI#2: McConnell is a dirt-bag, even though he can talk plain truth at times.
    TJI#3: D’ya think?
TJI#4: Truly spoken.  We’ve had nought but Toyotas for ages now.  Our current tone just passed 200,000 miles the other week.
    TJI#5: Another dirt-bag.

  5. Thanks Joanne.  One global of the unsummarized is a whole bunch of guidance for new regulations to make things better for people–one that captured my attention is to not allow landlords to limit tenants to one internet provider, like is so common with mobile home parks populated by seniors being bought up by hedge funds and other speculators (my county’s most prevalent affordable housing option).

  6. Cartoon: Heartless fools.
TNY: I like that President Biden didn’t play they’re game and that he kept true old-school coalition politics.
The Hill: Good for President Biden. If that’s what it takes to get things done.
Happy to hear that you got your second vaccine yesterday. Hope you’re still doing well without any side effects.
Plus glad your phone and Internet are working again.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

  7. I hope you’re still not experiencing any allergic reactions to your jab, Joanne, nor a bad reaction to the vaccine itself for that matter. I experienced some flu-like symptoms for two days but was happy enough. It was so much better than getting COVID.

Cartoon: This is what selfish Republicans are all about.

TNY: Actions always speak louder than words, especially when these actions stem from kept promises. The former guy didn’t even have words, just lies and 🐮💩 and not even the intention to keep a 🐮💩 promise.

    TH: Good on him (Biden).

FFT: Truth doesn’t need much thought and the belly laugh is very welcome.
