Boring here yesterday – and that’s a good thing. I like boring.

The Hill – White House unveils strategy to battle domestic extremism
Quote: “That means tackling racism in America. It means protecting Americans from gun violence and mass murders. It means ensuring that we provide early intervention and appropriate care for those who pose a danger to themselves or others,” the White House wrote. “It means ensuring that Americans receive the type of civics education that promotes tolerance and respect for all and investing in policies and programs that foster civic engagement and inspire a shared commitment to American Democracy.”

Mother Jones – Conservatives Are Hellbent On Attacking Critical Race Theory. They’re Whitewashing Structural Racism.
Quote – When asked about the most troubling thing politicians get wrong about critical race theory, Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, author of How to Be an Anti-Racist, told MSNBC contributor Jason Johnson it is the notion that critical race theory attacks white people, rather than interrogates structures of racism.

Huffington Post – Key House Dem Demands Answers About Prominent White Nationalist In The Air Force
Quote – The inquiry from Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), who chairs the military personnel subcommittee, concerns Airman 1st Class Shawn McCaffrey, a well-known white nationalist. McCaffrey graduated from boot camp in March, as HuffPost reported earlier this year, even as the military received a historic stand-down order so it could address the problem of extremism in its ranks. “I will be contacting Air Force leadership to find out why this individual ― who has his own author page on a website for far right extremists, describes himself as an ‘activist,’ and co-hosted a weekly podcast in which he attacked Jews, women, LGBTQ+ people, the U.S. armed forces, and many others using unacceptable slurs ― remains on active duty and under review given the very public and abundant evidence of his extremist ties,” Speier said in an emailed statement.

Food for Thought

  1. The “Food for Thought” cartoon triptych is from the Johnny Depp movie “Finding Neverland”.

It’s about playwright J. M. Barrie and his relationship with Sylvia Llewelyn Davies (a widow) and her four boys, who inspired him to write Peter Pan: The Boy Who Never Grew Up.

It’s the closing scene in the movie after Sylvia’s funeral, and the boy on the bench is her son Peter.  He’s holding the book in which he wrote his own plays – but then tore up.  His mother glued them all back together for him and gave him his book back.

    • I heard that film was a winner – correctly, I gather,

There is also a RW version of the meme, in which the sheep says “I got my COVID vaccine.”  They could screw up a wet dream.

  2. Cartoon: Drove through the Mohave on I-10 to Calli one year. I wish I would have stopped at the Preserve though.
TH: Yes, I agree that white supremacists and militia groups are threats throughout. We also need headstrong prosecution of extremists who violate and continually encourage violence and hate.
HP: I’m glad that Rep. Jackie Speier is looking into this. What she said, I agree with. Given that this person may already have a designated security clearance, it’s apropo and at it’s earliest … for an investigation re: this individual.
FFT: Good grief. Stop. Just stop. (that guy).

I like boring too. And staying home and not going places. It’s too hot anyways. LOL

*This just in: “Thank you, @Speaker Pelosi. Your leadership is needed to solve this. Now, we must push the Senate. Senate obstruction is only leading to more gun violence and more lives lost.” ~ Fred Guttenberg ~
    2. “Dear @SenSchumer and @TeamPelosi: You told us throughout 2020 that if Democrats took control that you have subpoena power. You have it. Now use it. ~ Don Winslow ~
    3. “The US Senate passes bill establishing Juneteenth as a Federal Holiday. Holiday marks oldest nationally recognized commemoration of slavery’s end and emancipation of African Americans.” ~ Alex Woodward ~
    4. “Floridians have a genuinely great chance to flush Marco Rubio out of his Senate seat by electing Val Demings as their Senator. Your RT and small donation helps us win the seat to expand our Senate majority. ~ Brooklyn Dad_Defiant ~
    5. “One of the 14 people hurt in a shooting on 6th Street, June 12th in downtown Austin, Texas has died. The 25 year old man succumbed to his injuries late Sunday afternoon (June 13). The man was vacationing in Austin from New York.  Another victim is paralyzed, she and her family were celebrating her 34th birthday.

    • TJI #2 – Yes, they have it and should use it Now if they only had the power to get Republiqans to not ask stupid loaded questions.
TJI #3 – Really? The Senate passed that? Will wonders never cease!
TJI #4 – I was talking with a childhood riend who retired in Florida. She thinks Val has a solid chance. I hope she’s right but I am not so confident.
TJI #5 – Oh, Pat, I’m so sorry. When it’s that close it hits home even if you didn’t know them personally.

    • TJI #2 – As noted earlier, since all Senate committee memberships are represented 50/50, and some Senate committees require a majority vote for subpoenas – that means that it would require a Rethuglican to agree.

Certainly very well might happen, depending on committee membership – but also not a guarantee.

  3. If “boring” means some routine and peace during an uneventful day, I know why you, and I, like it, Joanne.

Cartoon: With a temperature that high recorded in 1896, the GQP of course would use it to point out the “climate change hoax”. They probably also forget to mention that by that time Native Americans were condemned to live there in that heat after the land was transferred to the Office of Indian Affairs and the buildings were used as the site of a boarding school for Native American children, where for decades students were required to use English and give up native traditions in an effort to assimilate them to the mainstream culture.

TH: Well-intentioned, so let’s hope it doesn’t end up on that big pile of previous well-intentions that ended up all talk and no action.

MJ: Condervatists, Trumpkins, GQP, whatever, are so strongly denying their racism that they are believing it for real and anything that may undermine that belief needs to be expunged from their “reality”.

HP: This is not investigated “internally”, is it? That’s a waste of time and money.

FFT: I preferred sheep when they could only bleat.

  4. Cartoon: Currently in some parts of California it’s suppose to get high temps over 100 degrees this week. We’re getting our first Cal ISO Flex alert tomorrow. Makes me really worry about how bad it’s going to get this summer due to the Climate Change?

Boring is better than having lots to do, like errands, appointments, etc. Hope you enjoyed your day of peace.
Sorry, I’m running really late this evening, trying to get things ready for next week’s operation. Trying to set up Physical therapy that’s suppose to start 3 days after the surgery. Plus calling to see if the medication I’m suppose to get for after the operation. Nothing seems to be going smoothly when it comes to insurance companies being involved. We shall see if tomorrow is a better one.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

    • Blessings, and prayers for you, Colleen in preparation for your operation scheduled for next week…

Wishing good, positive and Healing Thoughts !!

Colleen – Take good care, Virtual Hugs!  17

    • Colleen—hope everything goes well, will be sending healing vibes from the cat goddesses your way!  Nameless one—–I have not seen that movie, didn’t know that, thx.   JD—thank you for all your postings. Everyone take care.    P.S. I looked up Cal ISO flex alert. I already do most of them. Hope folks will conserve and minimize the harm.

    • I knew you were expecting this surgery, but not that it was already time for it.  Prayers of course.  Sounds like you are taking good pre-op care of yurself and preparing to continue self-care port-op.  I can testify that that works.  I hope and pray all goes smoothly with minimal surprises.

  5. Thanks to all of you. It’s next Friday, the 25th, but some things like P.T. haven’t been scheduled, due to them needing the approval from the Insurance. Everything was approved months ago, but now it’s back to their (the insurance) games.  It was originally planned for February but due to Covid-19 it was cancelled. Then my specialist lost her husband, who was also was a doctor, due to Cancer. So she was on bereavement.
As for the ISO Flex taking place today, I practice conserving daily too. It’s the other ones who abuse it in the areas, that do cause us to have the Rolling blackouts.
    Thanks and Hugs.
