Well, alrighty then.  I get my first dose of CoViD vaccine today at 3:30 pm my time, and the second four weeks later, July 10, also at 3:30 pm.    Yesterday was a very busy day, but I managed to get that set up.

Short Takes

The Hill – House Judiciary Democrats call on DOJ to reverse decision on Trump defense. They actually signed this June 7, so it has taken a day or two to get into circulation.
Quote (from the letter, quoted in the article): “Are we to understand that federal employees are free to engage in private tortious conduct for personal gain, so long as they maintain federal employment and can assert some pretextual benefit to the public for their actions?” they asked.
Click through to the article here. And/or click through to the letter here – it’s only a page – the other three pages are signatures and CCs. And the signatures are those of some of the most wonderful people in Congress. It made my heart swell reading just them.

The Pulitzer Committee (or Board or whatever it has) has come a long way since the 1930s when everyone involved with “Of Thee I Sing” received a Pulitzer except George Gershwin, because there was then no category for music. There’s no category for this either – so they made an honorary award – for changing the world.
19th – Darnella Frazier, the teen who filmed George Floyd’s murder, wins honorary Pulitzer
Quote: The act reflected many of the core tenets of journalism: Afflicting the comfortable, shining a light on wrongdoing, bearing witness on behalf of the marginalized, speaking truth to power. It was not her job, but Frazier described it as her duty when she testified at Chauvin’s trial earlier this year.

News Corpse at Daily Kos – Trump’s Love Letter to Putin Prior to Meeting with Biden is Utterly Demented – and Treasonous. “News Corpse” is a Community member, who has top “mojo” (in other words, has earned Daily Kos’s trust), has published books to their credit, and their own blog.I haven’t followed their work as much as I have that of some others, but I have not found (or seen called out) any inaccuracies in what I have read. I’d say this article is sound.
Quote: Trump’s new “Save America” (from democracy?) message is like a greatest hits collection of delusional days gone by. He appears to have crammed every psychotic concoction he could think of into one run-on rejection of reality. However, it is also a disturbing admission that he has greater trust for America’s enemies than for its leaders and defenders. What follows is an annotated examination of Trump’s profoundly anti-American screed:

Extra short take: Merrick Garland gave an address on civil and voting rights. Now This News has it on YouTube. It takes over a half hour for it to start, so I have doctored the URL to take you right to where he starts talking. Now This News usually has CC, but this doesn’t. Sorry. I hope some sound news source will pick up a transcript.

  1. Cartoon: Boy, nothing the R’s won’t do to upset the people’s rights and privileges. And.. go out of their way to do it ~
The Hill: Great letter from the members of Congress, hope that that they get the briefing in an expedient manner too.
Pulitzer Committee: Shoutout! Bravo! Kudos to Miss Frazier for her brave actions in recording the murder of Mr. Frazier, getting the truth out there, and showing the world this horrible incident. If it hadn’t been for her bravery, Chauvin may have gone free. Rest in Peace, Mr. Floyd.
DK: Trump is the #1 Traitor, with his group of groveling ids licking his boots, who are treasonous as well.
Mr. Garland: Good video. I am passing this on too.
Cartoon: What a sad, sad picture.

Glad that you are…and the Best to you today … for getting your first shot. Let me know how it goes, and how you feel afterwards. Some people have different reactions. I got the Moderna, and other family members got the Pfizer. We all had different reactions.

*This just in: “Like the Mafia – The Justice Department became nothing more than a corrupt arm of the Trump administration; run by Donald J. Trump as it’s head of the Family. Every person whose account was subpoenaed should be notified and the complete list of individuals should immediately be released to the media.”
    ~ Michael Cohen ~
    2. re: Matt Gaetz – “It remains weird that a guy who is under FBI investigation continues to sit on a House committee conducting oversight of the FBI.” ~ Aaron Ruper ~
    3. Re: Louie Gohmert (R-TX) “Still mulling the fact that a United States congressman asked the Forest Service if it could change the moon’s orbit.” ~ Walter Shaub ~
    4. “In case you missed it, all 50 senate republicans voted against equal pay for women.” ~ Mueller, She Wrote ~
    5. Re- Rod Rosenstein – “A worm hiding in plain sight.” * pb *

  2. Glad you are managing to get vaccinated.  I coped with my swollen lymph nodes by remembering it meant I was having strong Tcell development, which may be even more helpful than high antibody levels-the only symptom that wasn’t gone within a day.
Glad to know Congress is questioning DOJ role in what so many view as a private matter so formally.
Ms Frazier has suffered greatly for her choice–I hope this helps with her healing.
Thanks for the easy watch opportunity–have read articles about Garland’s speech, and was hopeful it meant what I wanted to hear yet given some other DOJ choices, observing the nonverbal cues might be needed to fully trust the words for me.

  3. Cartoon: No good heartless rotten R’s. Don’t care one bit about the people. Vote them out.
The Hill:  I hope that they’re finally going to question what the DOJ’s role played in with tRump, regarding the whole Jan 6 ordeal. tRump has gotten away with way more than any other citizen would had. The time has come to make him stand up and face the music for all of his illegal acts. Hopefully they’ll find enough to lock him up for life.
Pulitzer Committee: I too say “Bravo” and “Thank you” to Ms. Frazier, for recording the awful torture that George Floyd was put thru. Like Pat mentioned, if it wasn’t for her, Chauvin would still be out there patrolling with his evil racist actions.
DK: How much more does tRump have to show that he has not one pitch of respect for America? He’s bowed down and kiss pUtin so much, he should be arrested. Totally despicable.
Food for Thought: Awful we can’t come together. With the rotten R’s we never will.
Glad your getting your Covid-19 vaccine today. Hope you do well with it.
    Take care. Thanks Joanne

  4. cartoon is spot on….thanks for all and congrats on getting your 1st shot!!!!!

  5. YIPPEE!  Congrats!  One down and one to go!

Did you get the Pfizer (which I got) or Moderna?

They generally use the 25 gauge needles, which really do not hurt a bit.  (At least to my mind.)

I think we all are thankful for, and proud of Darnella Frazier for her brave actions in videoing a murder in real-time that was the linchpin to convicting murderer Chauvin.

But in all honesty, I worry about her safety.  Lord knows there are enough Trumpkin crazies out there who would have no hesitation in causing her harm.

    Stay Safe, Darnella!

    • Sadly, you are right.  And I doubt whether the Pulitzer cash awards are enough to provide good securty for any extended period.  However, on the bright side … how many QAnon crazies and ignorant racists even know what a Pulitzer prize is, let alone who received them this year?
