  1. They’re Not Conservatives

It’s been ages since I’ve used the term “conservative”.  I used to go with “Radical Right” – but now since 1/6 we can legitimately call them Domestic Terrorists or (maybe even better) Trump Terrorists.

    History of the Filibuster

Got a kick out of learning the Senate passed the bill at 4 in the morning when Huey Long went to the bathroom.

    You Did This

And yet Hawley keeps doubling-down on his sedition.  Lord, I LOATHE my senator.

    Cats In Therapy

Maybe that’s the answer for Nike …

    • Huey Long was a very interesting guy. He was awful of course, but he wasn’t completely one-dimensional.  When I was visiting an old classmate who was then teaching at the University of Georgia, I picked up a book at a book sale called “Romance and Realism in southern Politics” – I thought it might be interesting.  It included many Huey Long stories, but the one which impressed and shocked me the most, and has therefore stuck with me, was one that happened while he was Governor of Louisiana  Of course male nurses were then a s scarce as unicorns, but a noticeable number of black women had managed to get the education to quality as RNs – but they couldn’t get employed.  Some took this problem to Huey  He said he could fix it if the requesters and the nurses realized they would not like how he did it.  Well, you know, people do have to eat, so that was agreed.  He then gave a very furious and fiery speech about how white women in hospitals were being forced to wait hand and foot on black men.  Hoo boy!  But it accomplished what he promised.  (I too was amused by the bathroom story.)

      • I remember watching the biographical movie “All the King’s Men” several times when I was in grade school.  That was the 1949 version w/ Broderick Crawford.  It inspired me to read the book as a young boy.

He was quite the larger-than-life figure – not unlike Trump … including his villainy.

        • Trump** is however one-dimensional.  Trump** would never do anything that would result in people of color being helped, no matter how ugly it was.  It’s too bad they (apparently) stopped showing ATKM to grade schools – it might have helped raise a generation which could see through Hawley.   Oh, wait – you didn’t go to grade school in Missouri, did you.  Illinois, was it ( forget)?  Maybe they didn’t stop.

  2. MT: You’ve got that right, whatever your name is.

NTN: Filibustering is atrocious enough but doing it by quoting bad poetry is unforgivable. The arrogance to do so just because you want to obstruct a democratic process, while at the end of the month you pick up your paycheck with the excuse you legislated as a representative of the people, is immeasurable.

LP: As long as Josh Hawley remains in the Senate there will be no healing.

It was impossible not to get Corey’s drift.

I just had enough time to watch the brilliant Cats in Therapy. Love it! Now I have to come back later for the rest.

  3. MT: Right on!
LP: Go away, and get out of Dodge while you can..
Corey: Heard you loud and clear, and I hear your pain too!
Cats in Therapy: Awww…(my reaction) My Russian Blue: Humph!

    Thank you, Joanne for post.

  4. Thanks JD!  Hugs! 26
