It’s a tired painful day here in the CatBox.  I have a severe case of Republicitis, and that may be adding to the back pain.  I’m gradually increasing meds, trying not to overdo it. WWWendy is coming this evening.  I should be in the saddle tomorrow.  TGIF!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:22 (average 6:16).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Cartoon:

Short Takes:

From Alternet: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is entering his new, less powerful role the same way he managed the Senate when he was Majority Leader, with one purpose in mind: block everything Democrats want.

Democratic Senators on Thursday blasted McConnell publicly after he threatened to filibuster the organizing agreement, which specifies how many Senators from each party sit on committees and who chairs them.

CNN’s Manu Raju notes if there is no power-sharing agreement, “the Senate will operate under the rules of the last Congress when the GOP controlled Senate majority and held committee chairs.”

At the center of McConnell’s obstruction: he’s demanding Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) commit to keeping the filibuster – which would allow Republicans to block and jettison everything Democrats want. That means Republicans could block all of President Joe Biden’s Cabinet nominees, and all legislation Democrats want to pass.  [emphasis added]

I don’t understand the particulars of how Bought Bitch Mitch can filibastard the organizing agreement. I think we could try to invoke the Nuclear Option, but that is likely to fail because Dino Joe Manchin would vote with the Republicans. However we do it, we cannot allow Republican minority rule.  RESIST the Republican Reich!!

Rachel is right to elucidate the horrid state of affairs Biden inherited from the RNP (Republican Nazi Party).  RESIST the Republican Reich!!

Ah… the memories.  RESIST the Republican Reich!!

  1. I wish you the best with balancing meds. Personally I would always prefer to err in the direction of -itis, but that doesn’t always work.

I apologize for bad news … it’s not all bad, but the part that is bad news we need to know now so we can properly set our expectations and avoid disappointment down the road.

Cartoon – I am lucky (and I do mean lucky, since I would have been a good candidate for death if I had) never to have needed one. But those who have, have suffered far too much, far too long.

AlterNet – By all accounts, Schumer is well aware of how catastrophic that would be and is not giving an inch on the filibuster. I may be imagining it, but I think he may have said, “We will not have government by minority.”

Rachel – Yes, she is. This clip ended before she could elucidate much, but I’m sure it will all come out.

    Blast – Interesting cover.

  2. ‘Toon: The Theirsts are not going to stop their assault on reason!
MSNBC: Spot-on!  The good stuff is happening, sanity rules the WH, but shit-bags have to be cleared away!
    BFP: SOOOOO damned good!

  3. Cartoon: The R’s love it!
AN: I wouldn’t trust BMM to do or say anything honest. Get him outta there, imho. Hopefully, the dems will continue to blast him daily till he gets over trying to get his way all the time.
MSNBC: The News: Love it, love it!! and Rachel too!
    LZ: Love this song!

Sorry to read that you are in pain, and on top of that, sick with Republicitis. Gotta do a full flush for that.. to make sure to get comfortable again. Get your rest, take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

*This just in: “People I’d like to see working for our President – Col. Alex Vindman, Marie Yovanovitch, Dr. Fiona Hill, Stacey Abrams, and Sally Yates.” ~ Kelli C. ~
    2. “If you’re ever working with me, and I hear you treated another colleague with disrespect, or talk down to someone, I promise I’ll fire you on the spot. No ands, ifs or buts. Everybody! Everybody is entitled to be treated with dignity and respect.” ~ President Joe Biden ~
    3. “We are lucky that the ‘last guy’ is finally gone, so that we (citizens), and President Biden can start the healing process that we all need so much. For far too many it is too late, they are gone. But we must continue to seek and demand accountability and justice. Our Democracy and Constitution rely upon and thrive on it.” ~ John N. ~
    4. “Billionaire (R) donor and Home Depot co-founder Ken Langone said he feels ‘betrayed’ by dt after the attempt to overturn the election and he vowed to do everything he can to support Joe Biden as the new President. ~ Alexis Benveniste, CNN ~
    5. “Trump – possible tax fraud, trial in the senate, $300M in loans. This might be a coincidence, but as soon as trump said ‘he’ll be back in some form’, … my puppy went poo poo.” ~ Sarah Cooper ~

    • TJI #1 – Yes to all of those. (I bought from Wonkette a set of 4 ceramic shot glasses, 3 of which have 3 of those people depicted as saints – Saint Alex, Saint Masha, and Saint Fiona. The fourth is Saint David, who also testified at that time. I use them for keeping small items together at my desk.)
TJI #2 – Be still, my heart.

  4. There are good and bad things about ending the filibuster, but given the continued obstruction by Republicans I favor ending it. The Republican behavior forces this move.

  5. It must be so difficult to balance all the different kinds of medication and the pain, especially when your body throws everything out of kilter again. I hope you regain that delicate balance soon, TomCat.

4:44 Reminded me of Dutch bikes painted in garish colours to prevent them from being stolen.

Cartoon: Roe v Wade will be on Biden’s agenda soon; this SCOTUS already has taken some disgusting decisions to make abortion virtually impossible and it’ll only get worse. A balance in numbers is needed soon.

AN: This doesn’t come as a surprise, McConnell knows exactly how to play the game, including cheating and changing the rules, to stay in power even without a majority. Schumer simply can’t afford to bow his head to this. I hope the Democrats in Congress can convince Biden of this too and show him this is not the time of compromise, i.e. loss, but of an iron fist.

MSNBC: I’m with Rachel; as I’ve said before, it ain’t over until the fat lady sings. And right now she’s still on a diet.

BFTP: I’ve never been a Led fan but this song is great and undeniably one of the great classics.

  6. Cartoon: Sick to see the rotten R’s are still up to doing away with it. I had three petitions today to sign to save it.
AN: Hopefully they can keep mItch the bi*ch from having any sort of control over this important issue.
    MSNBC: Rachel speaks truth.
BFTP:  One of my favorites of all time. Love listening to it.
Sorry to hear that your not feeling too well. Won’t Deborah be coming over Monday? That way she can figure out if you need more of the pain med? My concern is that when I use to take pain meds, they’d caused me major stomach issues. I’ll be praying that you get to feeling better soon.
I sure hope you and Wendy got your tasks all accomplished.
    Take care. Thanks TomCat

  7. Thanks and pooped weekend hugs to all. 19
