MLKDay

It was a pleasure to work with Dr. King on Vietnam Summer.  Of all the people I have met in my life, he stands head and shoulders above the rest.

In addition to I Have a Dream, you should also watch Beyond Vietnam.  I was in Riverside Baptist Church.  After the speech, we formed the organizing committee for Vietnam Summer.  The policies he outlined are what we are still fighting to achieve today and challenged the far right to murder him.

I trust that this is the first time Dr. King has observed this remembrance washout grieving since 2013. I rejoice that he is rejoicing today!

  1. Such a beautiful tribute to Dr. King.
We must heed his loving words, and strive to live through his actions.
And also…to pass on to our Children and Grandchildren.
    Thank you, Tom for this.

  2. American Gandhi!

    • Martin looked up to Gandhi. 04

      • In Philip Glass’s opera “Satyagraha,” about Gandhi of course (mostly in South Africa), each act is named after someone deeply associated with Gandhi. The third act, named “King” features a man, at the back of the stage and elevated above it, seen from the back through a window in the set, mimes the “Dream” speech. When they filmed it, the camera keeps briefly cutting back to him so the audience won’t forget. Very moving. It’s been streamed a few times in the Met’s free streaming for the pandemic, and I’m pretty sure I have watched it every time.

  3. thank you…….but I always struggle with the idea of Happy….I always assume the idea is Happy that we honor him, but sad we are only memorializing him…..although had he made it to 2021 he would be 92 (?) so….

  4. What a wonderful tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.
    He spoke wise words.
Giving people real hope then and to take with them to go forward.
We must continue to carry on with his Dream.
    Thanks TomCat

  5. Amen.

  6. Thanks to all! 29
