Dec 302020

It’s another tired day here in the CatBox.  It appears that the progression of my disease demands that I spend more time getting bed rest.  Nevertheless I managed to put together a full article today and hope to do so into 2021 as well.  Happy Hump Day!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:14 (average 5:59).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: Although the pandemic rescue package finally signed by a pouting Donald Trump last night extends the federal moratorium on evicting renters who cannot make their payments, it’s only a temporary reprieve. The House and Senate-passed bill extends the eviction moratorium by only one month. We’re right back here in February, albeit with a new president not permanently sidelined by his own narcissistic delusions.

And the underlying problem is not going away. After the bungling incompetence of government responses from March onward, we are in a new pandemic surge. One in every thousand Americans has died from the virus. Without more lockdowns, the death toll will double in coming months; vaccines simply cannot be manufactured and distributed fast enough to prevent it. And all that means that those who have lost their jobs in a shattered pandemic economy cannot pay rent, and haven’t been able to pay rent, and will not be able to pay months of backlogged rent with a new $600 check, or a $2,000 one. $600 will go to food first, medicine second, rent third.

Here in OR, the legislature had already passed a three month extension on Oregon’s moratorium on evictions. In addition, they passed a financial aid package for landlords who need help staying afloat, because so many tenants have to live rent free. I have no doubt that we will continue to help those in need, because Oregon leads the way.  RESIST!!

From Crooks and Liars: Why weren’t we told about this sooner? Details at justscream.baby.

I have a better idea. If you need to scream, call (202) 456-1111, the White house phone number, but only before 1/20.  RESIST!!

From YouTube (Robert Reich Channel): Defeating McConnell: The Real Stakes of the Georgia Runoffs

Of course the Reich on the left, Robert Reich, is right. In this case I know, because I’ve been saying the same things ever since I learned that Senate control depends on the outcomes of those elections. Bought Bitch Midnight Moscow Mitch personifies the Reich on the Right, the Republican Reich. If they retain the Senate majority, BBMMM will do to Biden what he did to Obama. RESIST!!

From YouTube (a blast from the past): The Moody Blues – Nights In White Satin

Ah… the memories!  RESIST!!

  1. Please continue to get the rest you need. We are here for you.

Cartoon – that’s not a resolution, that’s business as usual.

DKos – Please don’t blame the House, which is doing the best it can against the odds. You can certainly blame BBM, but beyond that, let’s blame the voters. (And let’s work as hard as we can from wherever we are for the voters in Georgia to help put an end to BBM.) Yes, Oregon is leading the way – may we all learn to follow!

    C&L – I saw this. I think it’s pretty new – though not a moment too soon!

Robert Reich – Of course he is right. And that is why I have been posting something abut Georgia every day since I started the Video Thread. (I think I missed one day whenI couldn’t find anything, but not more.) Many thanks to Freya and everyone else who has voted or will vote for Ossoff and Warnock.

    A pretty and sad piece.

  2. Cartoon: Oh! but of course!
DK: Yes, your state leads the way, how I wish that Texas could copy what your state is doing. But…no! Of course not!
C&L: “I’m in a glass cage of emotion!” What a yeller, wow!
RRC: Fingers crossed. BBMM is an as-, and will continue keep doing what he’s doing. Ugh! Hoping for a win for Warnock and Ossoff.
BFTP: Saw them in concert several times, and This! What a song! TY

No worries here! I sure hope that you get your rest and naps in, as you need them. Take good, good care, and Thanks, Tom.

    6. “All this talk about January 6th from donald trump, and other congressional grifters. It’s simply explained: they will raise money and gain followers by blaming everyone else knowing full well they can’t do anything. It’s sad and an utter scam. ~ House Republican Adam Kinzinger ~

  3. Your medical condition will continue to take its toll and yet you keep on producing new Open Threads more than worth reading or Personal Updates. You’re amazing, TomCat.

Cartoon: That resolution hasn’t changed much over the years, has it.

DK: A ‘president’ and Congress are squabbling over a month reprieve while the American stock markets hit all-time highs, can you believe it? There’s something systemically wrong with the picture and with the pandemic continuing to rage, there’s little Biden can do except for handing out more aid and trying to keep the economy going.

RR: If Georgia doesn’t vote two Democrats into the Senate, at least two more years of Trumpism will follow without Trumpmessing up McConnel’s plans. It’s a very heavy burden on the shoulders of Georgia which now has to rectify the mistakes of the other states who didn’t vote their Republicans out of the Senate.

BFTP: Thanks for taking us on a ‘classics bender, TomCat.

  4. If your body needs more rest, take it.  It’s like coming to a fork in the road, when you do, you take it.
‘toon: That’s been their game almost forever.
C&L: Not good for my B/P, nor my throat!  I have done some, however, I assure you.
RR: McTurtle is a duplicitous whoremongering scumbag, he said, with no capital letters.
BFP: I LOVE the Moody Blues.

  5. TJI#6 says it all.  Amazing!

  6. Of course these are uncharted waters for you.  But listen to your own feedback: Rest is always good!

  7. Cartoon: That’s their MOTTO.
DK: Wow your state is doing so much for the people, TC. Wish other states would be so kind.
C&L: Crazy. I like your suggestion.
RR: Right on. mItch the bi*ch needs to removed from his controlling position. Hopefully with the two Democrats winning in Georgia, he’ll be put where he belongs.
Please take in all of the rest you need, TC. Your health comes first. Will be praying that you get to feeling better soon. Take care. Thanks TomCat

  8. I am totally ashamed that one of my “senators” (Josh Hawley) has decided to totally ignore his oath to defend democracy against enemies foreign AND domestic, and has cast his lot w/ seditionist Donnie in contesting the election on 1/6/21 in hopes of currying favoring w/ Trumpkins in his desire to run in 2024.

But I was glad to see “HawleyResign was trending #1 on Twitter:

    • I am so sorry.  What happened to Tommy Tuberville?  Was he unable to do it because of being new (maybe not even sworn in yet?

I do feel for you that he is yours, and I hope you can replace him sooner than later with someone else who is better (sadly, that doesn’t go without saying.)  He is certainly not your fault, and is no reflection on you.

    • See today’s Open Thread.  I have a few ideas in the ditch already. 14

  9. Thanks and pooped Hugs to all! 19
