It’s a tired day here in the CatBox, but I am eating well.  Tomorrow is a Holy Day in the Church Of the Ellipsoid Orb.  My Broncos will be playing the Dolphins, but the game won’t be televised here.  On Monday I have my Oncologist appointment, my infusion at the hospital, and a full WWWendy Day, so tomorrow I want to get as much rest as I can in preparation.  Because Trump* is circling the drain, Saturday had become CATurday again,  Happy CATurday!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:49 (average 4:38).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Cartoon:

Compared to Trump*, Nixon’s crimes are chicken feed.

Short Takes:

From NY Times: A coalition of Democrats, Native Americans and liberal activists is urging President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. to nominate one of Congress’s first Native American women to head the Interior Department, putting an American Indian in control of vast swaths of the continent and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

The nomination of Representative Deb Haaland, Democrat of New Mexico, as Interior secretary would have undeniable symbolic power. If confirmed, a Native American for the first time would oversee 500 million acres of public lands, including national parks, oil and gas drilling sites, and endangered species habitat, and control the federal agencies most responsible for the well-being of the nation’s 1.9 million Indigenous people.

Ms Haaland and Sharice Davids of Kansas made history in 2018 as the first two Native American women elected to Congress, and Ms. Haaland would do so again as the first Native American cabinet secretary. But her lack of policy experience worries some Biden advisers, who have suggested another Native American candidate: Michael L. Connor, a deputy Interior secretary in the Obama administration, whose experience is unquestioned, even if he lacks the star power of Ms. Haaland.

I think filling that position with a Native American is a great idea and that either Haaland or Connor would be an excellent choice for the post.  RESIST!!

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): Lawrence O’Donnell Thanks Rachel Maddow For Her Powerful Covid-19 Message

Rachel Maddow has been a Godsend to all Americans who love this nation. This is the first time I learned that her partner, Susan, had almost died from Trump* virus. Both are in my thoughts and prayers with thanks that Susan survived. Please join me!  RESIST!!

  1. I cannot call this breaking news, but I can call it a brilliant idea: “I’m actually a fan of a “tax fairness” bill, I think Rs would jump on it. Pass a bill that explicitly says a State cannot receive more in Federal aid than it pays in Federal taxes. Call it the “Maker-Taker Fairness Act” or the “Balanced Tax Distribution Act” or somesuch malarkey that panders to the Right’s idea that the blue states, with their welfare queens and food-stamp scammers, are the “taker” states, I really suspect they’d jump on it like flies on s**t.” – sir phali (DU)

Hoo boy – Scandal in New Mexico. Democrats don’t normally tend to quids pro quos, but if they do, it must be called out. Cervantes appears to be doing that.

Cartoon – There are many differences between then and now but the intent – sheer power – is not different.

NYT – And all this is happening during Native American Heritage Month!!

MSNBC – I am so glad you are featuring this one! And so glad Susan will live.

Buffy – The perfect time to stop them is past. Now is hopefully not too late, but it is very late indeed.

    • I bet a dollar that Republicans run from that ‘tax-fairness’ bill, because that is fair, and Repuvlicans NEVER say fair, unless it isn’t! 13

      • Well, this isn’t fair. Deliberately. It’s not even intended to last long, but to prove whhat takers red states are, which most Republicans, and I include those in office, don’t know (or won’t believe.)

        • More than that do know, do believe, and want it to to stay that way.  Furthermore they know that the only way to make it stay that way is to act as though it were not true. 13

  2. Cartoon: What you so aptly said. I agree!
NYT: Either or, it will be wonderful to see these folks in the position to heal the earth with awareness and meaning. It will be like a breath of fresh air !!
MSNBC: I watched this yesterday, and got choked up listening to Rachel. I wish them both well and to stay healthy. Rachel did right by doing her quarantine. Love both her and Lawrence. Great piece.
    BFOE: She’s fantastic, love this.

Sounds like you have a busy week coming up, so yes, rest up the rest of today, and tomorrow. Take good, good care, get a nap in, and Thanks, Tom.   p.s. we play NE @noon here.

*This just in: “By the time the Senate returns, based on current trends…an estimated 16,000 more Americans will have died from Covid 19. Unforgiveable!” ~ Robert Reich ~

    3. “Ivanka Trump is Leona Helmsley’s doppelganger.” ~ Loumar G. ~
    4. “One of the investigations involving Ivanka Barbie is about the large consultancy fee trump paid her – – not illegal…but writing them off as a tax loss, which they did, is.” ~ F. Braun A.
    5. “If you think you are having a bad day…just remember trump is watching Biden’s inaugural stage being built on the WH North Lawn.” ~ Alex Cole ~
    6. “Looks like trump lost GA twice in the same election.”  ~ Suresh S. ~

    • TJI #3 & 4 – I hear she’s not happy about being “sucked in” to theinvestigation. But if you get “sucked in” to the schheme in the first place, you are not “sucked in” to the investigation, you are asimply a part of it. I’ll bet she didn’t complain about getting the money.
TJI #6 – and hopefully will lose two more times also.

    • TJI:  All wonderful!
Watch for trump sneaking out of the WH, in the dark of night, to pee on the stage. Four letter words being swallowed!

  3. Thanks TC.  Glad your relationship with food continues to be restored. I’ve read that several GOP voices in Congress have made supportive comments about Rep. Haaland, too.  In addition, apparently 3 GOP Senators have said their inclined to support Biden’s appointees so some promising elements for the future.

  4. Cartoon: Yes agree with Joanne that situations are so different today compared to then. Everything tRump has gotten away with these past four years, would of had him locked up a long time ago in those days.
NYT: Great suggestion. Hope that Joe follows thru all of the way and appoints one of them.
MSNBC: Enjoyed watching the video. Glad that Rachel’s partner Susan survived Covid-19.
    BFOE: Love it.
Happy to hear that you’re doing well with your food intake and that it continues that way.
Wow your Monday is packed. I hope your visit with your Oncologist and your infusion session goes well.
Hope your afternoon was a good one and that you’re able to get some sleep.
    Take care. Thanks TomCat

  5. thank you!

  6. Good luck, on Monday!
‘Toon: Maybe Trump will go down the same drain that sucked in those 18minutes; into oblivion.
NYT: Haaland, or Connor, would work for me…well for Biden.
MSNBC: I saw Rachel tell the story about she and Susan, last night, I think it was, and was quite impressed, did expect her to start crying several times along.
    BUFFY: Just marvelous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Sounds like you’re not doing too bad, relatively speaking, of course. How is the back brace working for you, TomCat?

2:48 Life looks so much brighter with colour and sunshine, doesn’t it?

Cartoon: Republicans always had problems clearing the stage.

NYT: A Native American for the interior post seems a no-brainer to me, but perhaps a more experienced candidate would be preferable on this post. In these challenging times, it might be better to have someone on this important but sorely neglected post that hasn’t got three strikes against them (Native American, woman, inexperienced) even though a woman with the star power of Deb Haaland could do a lot of good.

MSNBC: I knew about Rachel’s partner Susan catching COVID-19 but not that she nearly succumbed to the virus. For a private person like Rachel it must have been difficult to speak about it even if was from her private quarters, but I’m glad she did. It shows people that we are all vulnerable and that it could catch up with you no matter who you are.

BOP: Great song. Buffy has a strong voice in many ways.

    • I still have not received the back brace.  The supply company was supposed to call me last night.  My pain management team will get on their case this week. 30

  8. A First Nations (Native American) as Secretary of the Interior? Outstanding idea! About time. Putting a Native American in charge of the Bureau of Indian Affairs comes across as like putting a doctor in charge of the Health Department or a teacher in charge of education.

  9. Thanks, Ellipsoid Orb Hugs and Amen to all! 23
