It’s a busy day, here in the CatBox.  I’m expecting a visit from the Providence doctor shortly.  This is my only article today.  Oh God, it’s Monday!

Trump*Virus Update:

Cases: 2,357,323
Deaths: 122,259
Recovered: 980,367

Short Takes:

From Media Matters: In 2015, after a white supremacist gunned down nine Black worshipers in a Charleston, South Carolina, church and calls to dismantle the symbols of racism and slavery grew louder, Fox figures rallied around the Confederate flag. When state leaders, led by then-Gov. Nikki Haley, ordered the flag’s removal from public buildings, Bill O’Reilly used his Fox prime-time perch to say it “represents, to some, bravery in the Civil War because the Confederates fought hard.” Then-Fox personality Kimberly Guilfoyle speculated about whether the American flag would be next.

In 2017, when a white supremacist mowed down a crowd of protesters at the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia — which was spuriously organized around the city’s plan to remove a statue of Gen. Robert E. Lee from a local park — the same pattern emerged. Fox figures defended President Donald Trump’s false equivalence between white supremacists and the counterprotesters [sic] at the rally. And they asked whether book burning or removing the U.S. Capitol stone by stone would come next.

Today, the Confederate battle flag and other racist monuments are back in the news. Amid continued nationwide protests over police brutality against Black Americans in the wake of George Floyd’s killing, protesters have begun toppling statues of Confederates and colonizers alike.

The Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda, Faux Noise, will defend racism as long as the racist Republican Reich exists. That’s why every Republican in office is one Republican too many!  RESIST!!

From The New Yorker: Stung by the paltry turnout at his Saturday-night rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Donald J. Trump’s campaign has announced plans to hold his next rally in the bunker beneath the White House.

In announcing the rally, Brad Parscale, the chairman of Trump’s reëlection campaign, denied that the choice of venue reflected a tepid level of enthusiasm to see the candidate speak.

“The bunker holds forty people,” Parscale said. “That is a much larger seating capacity than Joe Biden’s basement.”

Despite the choice of such an intimate venue, however, Trump campaign sources are privately worried that they may have difficulty filling the bunker.

Dang, Andy! At least the Republican Reich will spread less of their Trump* virus plague that way!  RESIST!!

From YouTube (a blast from the past):  The Beatles – While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Ah… the memories!  RESIST!!

  1. Cartoon: Oh, but of course!
TVU: Gonna get worse before it gets better too.
MM: See them here, a few on the roads on the backs of pick-up trucks. Represents racism, and hate. All the way through and through on the stars and bars. Shame! Glad to read that the statues are going down though.
NYer: Keep ’em coming, Andy. This one is hilarious!!
BFTP: Such a great song!! ty!
Hope that your meeting went well. Hope that you have a good rest of your day, and get some rest! Take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

*This just in: “Juneteenth has never been a celebration of victory or an acceptance of the way things are. It’s a celebration of progress. It’s an affirmation that despite the most painful part of our history, change is possible – and there is still so much to do.” ~ Barack Obama ~
    2. “People are sick of the Trump Maga re-run speeches. In fact, people are sick and dying. 120,000 dead. ~ Joanne A. ~
    3. “Paging Sean Spicer for a crowd estimate in Tulsa.” ~ Dan Rather ~
    4. “Trump’s lonely Helo walk back- this is the look of defeat. True walk of Shame. This is glorious to see.” ~ Devin Nunes’ Mom ~
    5. re: “Trump’s next rally: “Phoenix, Arizona. June 23rd. 111 degree heat. I can’t wait.” ~ Joe F. ~

    • TJI #1 – Growing up in Hawaii, with some custody by his father in Indonesia, he probably didn’t learn about it until he was an adult. But leave it to him to get the point perfectly, and share it clearly.

TJI #4 – Aldous J. Penntfarthing at Daily Kos described it as “the saddest, most beautiful thing.” Same idea, and both are accurate.

  2. Hope that interview goes well. The last one did so I’m optimistic.

Speaking of interviews, I had never heard of Noel Casler. He worked on Celebrity Apprentice for several years, and knows a lot which is not being talked about much, except peripherally, as a “wink, wink, nudge nudge” dogwhistle (of the left).. Noel has receipts.

Lincoln Project – double entendres and all.

It doesn’t get any better than this…

Cartoon – What they will probably do is label any other political party as “Antifa,” which in a way is true, except for every single detail, and continue to demonize “Antifa.” Then, they can close down “Antifa” in the name of protecting freedumb. Which is why my preference is to keep pushing that there is NO SUCH THING as “Antifa” capital A, only individuals who are opposed to fascism.

Map – So that is what the map looks like as we discover that residents of rural areas are more at risk in many ways than are those in cities. (I dreamed last night I was looking for my masks because I needed one for something to do with food – some recipe swapping or contest.)

MM – “[A]s long as the racist Republican Reich exists”? I think much longer. And we’ll have to continue to pay attention to it. Poisonous mushrooms grow in the dark, especially if they are getting fed bull shit regularly, even if clandestinely.

TNY – Long live the TikTok Teens! You know, after seeing the clip of how he looked returning to the White House, I would believe this. For anyone else, I would feel sorry. But this is the first crack we have seen in the facade, and I can only welcome it.

Past – You can tell the guitar is weeping because the key is minor. Boy, is this one ever appropriate today.

    •  Kaitlyn Saunders’ performance was stunning, and absolutely beautiful. Love the song too.
Lincoln Project gets better and better, don’t they?
      Thanks, Joanne for sharing.

    • 0328 for your little but spot-on Antifa/individuals against fascism comment, Joane. I’m with you all the way.

  3. ‘Toon:  What is obvious, is that is just that Reichsministry that needs outlawing!
TVU: Mr. Orange goes to Phoenix soon?  Good!
New Yorker: Bunker Boy dress again!  People, his idiot people, seem to be tiring of his “One Note Johnny” message.
    BFTP: Lovely!!
All the TJI’: Wonderful! I wondered whether,or not, that was an actual photo of the Orange looser looking like a bigly looser.  I guess it was/is.

  4. I hope you had a good conversation with the Providence doctor about your expectancies of a healthcare plan that suits your needs, TomCat.

3:19 I really didn’t intend on getting this ugly mutt.

Cartoon: Republicans are still in the ‘making life impossible stage’, banning is next.

Update: Still in the “going to get worse before it gets better” stage.

MM: There certainly are a number of statues about where the large majority of people is in agreement they should be taken down; too bad for the white supremacist minority. The trouble starts with those that are in the grey area. Personally, I would leave them up explaining in placards why we, in this day and age, think they did wrong and were at fault but I don’t think these placards would survive the ire of white supremacists for very long.

TNY: The enthusiasm for any rally in any venue is so low because none of the white supremacists he has riled up for the great boogaloo is allowed to take his guns inside, the bunker being no exception.

BFTP: Beautiful song that always makes me a little melancholic. More of a George Harrison song than a Beatles song, I think.

  5. Cartoon: Ain’t that the flippin truth?
TVU: Scary….It’s climbing here….we’re over 11,100 cases here, 338 deaths. There saying our number are going in the wrong direction, that we may be looking at another round of shut downs here.
MM: Really shameful that there has been so much violence. Glad that officials are removing these statues.
TNY: tRump sure wasn’t looking to happy when he seen all of the empty seats. Was watching “The View”, this morning where they showed tRump stepping off his plane, with his shirt unbutton, tie undone, just hanging. He looked a mess. What a joke.
BFTP: I always was a fan of the Beatles. Love the song.
Hope your appointment with the Providence Doctor went well.
    Take care. Thanks TomCat

  6. Thanks and Hugs to all! 23

  7. I’m just hoping the low turnout for Trump continues through November….especially voting day….
