It’s a busy day, here in the CatBox.  Tomorrow, please expect no more than a very brief Personal Update, because I have to leave home at 7:30.  WWWendy is taking me to the hospital for my next infusion and to discuss what we need to change to extend my life without killing me.  I’ll try to let you know when I’m home safe.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:27 (average 5:12).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Cartoon:

Yes I know the chimp is an ape, not a monkey.

Trump* Virus Update:

Deaths: 99,348
Recovered: 451,745

Short Takes:

From Crooks and Liars: Almost certain to be an enduring meme, that Trump decided that going golfing was appropriate and more important than honouring Americans that have died due to COVID-19. That he did so doing Memorial Day weekend makes it even worse.

Source: Rolling Stone

President Trump, who has faced mounting criticism for his administration’s mishandling of the coronavirus crisis and his lack of empathy throughout, decided to leave the White House on Saturday to play golf.

According to several reports, today’s trip to the Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia, is likely his first outing to one of his private golf courses since early March. However, during the two “working weekends” the president spent at Camp David in May, it is unknown whether or not he played golf.

Trump going golfing is consistent with his reopen theme that he’s been pushing of late, but it still shows a tone-deafness and a lack of empathy. The U.S. pandemic death toll is approaching 100,000, and on top of that it’s Memorial Day weekend, a solemn occasion meant for tributes to Americans lost at war.

What Trump did today is much worse. He insulted fallen heroes by taking his ersatz bone spurs to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. RESIST!!

From The New Yorker: Sharply disagreeing with critics of Donald J. Trump’s weekend visit to the Trump National Golf Club, Dr. Anthony Fauci has urged Trump to remain on the golf course until the pandemic is over.

“The people who are giving you a hard time about your golf trip are just haters,” Fauci told Trump on Sunday. “It’s in the best interest of everyone in the country that you keep golfing, Mr. President.”

“Please,” he added.

Andy, I have to admit that Fauci’s point could not be more valid.  RESIST!!

From YouTube (a blast from the Past): 500 miles – Peter, Paul and Mary [Original Audio]

Ah… the memories!  RESIST!!

  1. Best to you and to WWWendy. Tell her we love her.  We’ll be thinking of you both tomorrow.

This is interesting. All I knew about Vitamin D was that it works with calcium to strengthen bones, and that most people get it through exposure to sunshine rather than through diet. I have a personal story which might support this, or not, if I had accurate dates. But it’s interesting concept. And it could kind of explain why children dying from CoViD-19 is rare – milk is supplemented with it, and kids are encouraged to drink milk.

I saw this at AlterNet, but I always like to go to the source if there is one, and if it isn’t a fake news mill. I would love to reproduce the whole article here (some very serious information presented in a very amusing manner), but, unlike AlterNet, I don’t have a contract with Salon. I will quote the first line: “What is a failed state? It’s a country that would hire me to make things work.”

I’m not sure what to say about this article besides “Amen!”

Cartoon – Didn’t they win on appeal? They’d certainly win in some states today.

AlterNet – He can manage to show disrespect to anyone, anything, anywhere, no matter what he does, without even trying. I kind of wish his advisers would stop trying yo get him to show any. Just let it all hang out.

TNY – Excellent idea, Andy. I’m pretty sure it won’t happen. He doesn’t get his MDR of adulation on the golf course.

Past – Oh, yes. Them and the Kingston Trio. And the Weavers. Bill Maher said in one of his clips this week that all folk music is terrible. He’s wrong, and even if one is snobbish (or worse) enough to agree, there are many great composers to prove it wrong.

  2. ‘Toon: “Are you suggesting that my grandmother was a monkey?”  Determined misunderstanding of evolution, or purposeful warping thereof!  William Jennings Bryan won thecae, Scopes being found guilty, but the verdict was later overturned on a technicality. Sadly, Tennessee is still an intellectual backwater, it seems.
TVU: The trend to redder, and redder continues.  People who attended a particular Mother’s Day celebration somewhere, have become positive, according to the real news.  So, sadly, those who thumb their noses at the CDC’s warnings, may be learning the very hard way.
C & L: THAT crook and liar just keeps showing where what would normally be his heart, is at.
RS: “Working weekend?” How about “Scheming weekend?”  I expect he spent much of the time watching his own image flash across the TV  screens.
    New Yorker: Yes.Dr. Fauci, “Please!”
P,P,and M!: I’m melting.  I have difficulty believing that Maher can have such a perspective.  I was listening to some Richard and Mimi Fariña, just earlier this P.M..  She was Joan Baez’ sister.  Such sweet, beautiful music.

  3. I just noticed that I didn’t catch this posting earlier. Sorry.
I pray that you have a good visit tomorrow and that you’re doctor can come up with a better way to treat you, so you don’t have the ill effects you suffered last week.
I’m so grateful that Wendy will be going in with you. Tell her “hi” and “Thanks.”
    Take care and be safe.
    Thanks TomCat

  4. It would be preferable if they had a solution to your detrimental chemo reaction before they put some more of the chemicals into your body, TomCat. I hope they have it ready and waiting for you tomorrow.

3:10 I just couldn’t let you have this adorable, good-natured dog, TomCat.

Cartoon: The Dutch do not differentiate between apes and monkeys in their language, so I’m cool with the picture of a chimp for your Monkey Trial.

Update: I’m sure none of the states is tickled pink with these numbers.

C&L: Tone-deaf? It’s apparent that Trumpf lacks a few very tiny bones in his ear channel so he can only hear what he wants to hear. Anything that’s disagreeable to him is blocked out. Add that to his egocentric mind, and it wouldn’t cross that mind that a leader doesn’t do what he does.

TNY: This piece of advice from Fauci is an example of what Trump would hear. And since that advice involves playing golf, one thing he actually likes doing, he’ll be only too happy to follow. Lock the gate behind his cart and throw the key in the trashcan next to his phone.

BFTP: First time I heard it.

  5. Cartoon — Here’s a real monkey and he has the right attitude for dealing with Republicans.

Trump Virus — I wonder what Trump’s story will be at the end of tomorrow when deaths will likely top 100,000?  He said he was told that under 100,000 was good.  I predict that he will move the goal posts because he does not want to look like a failure.  News to Trump: YOU ARE A FAILURE ALREADY!!!

Crooks and Liars — Trump is the very definition (and then some) of a crook and liar!.  That sorry excuse for a human being should never be on the same piece of land as any service person . . . or for that matter, any person who has died of COVID as a result of Trump’s ineptitude.

The New Yorker — Fauci’s point is well taken.  Better on the golf course than on the football!

YouTube — Oh I remember this and was able to sing along.  WOW that is an oldie!

I am so glad that you are a bit better and out of the hospital.  Praise be for WWWendy!  I am glad she is going with you tomorrow.  I asked for prayers for you yesterday at church and of course the 4 of us say prayers for you every night.  Please take care Puddy Tat! . . . and stay safe!

  6. Thanks to all! 17
