It’s a crappy day, here in the CatBox… literally.  I woke up at 1:00 AM with severe Republicosis and almost didn’t make it.  I did nor get back to bed until 2:45.  I was back on the throne at 5:45.  I suspect the next trip will be soon.  Wish me luck, or better yet, does anyone have a spare cork?  TGIF!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:38 (average 4:04).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Trump* Virus Update:

Short Takes:

From Willamette Week: Forty-two percent of Oregon’s small business payrolls were covered by the federal Paycheck Protection Program last week.

The $350 billion program was designed by Congress to give companies with up to 500 employees the equivalent of two-and-half months of payroll in forgivable loans.

Oregon’s yield from the program—42 percent of eligible payrolls covered—was the third-lowest figure in the country, according to calculations by Ernie Tedeschi, an analyst at the New York investment banking firm Evercore ISI. Those findings were first published by Bloomberg News.

Tedeschi’s numbers show an imbalance: The top three states—Nebraska, North Dakota and Kansas—got an average of 79.4 percent of their small business payrolls covered. All are red states. The bottom three, Oregon, New York and California, which got an average of 40 percent, vote blue.

The picture in the article of a Portland business says it best.

  1. I hope that doesn’t last! So sorry!

This is not a brand new video (April 3 IIRC) and the information will not be new to anyone here, but hearing it from a “redneck” may possibly be helpful to people we may know.

(I’m pretty sure “to blow” in the CC was supposed to be “Tupelo”)

Cartoon – Isn’t THAT the truth. Plague carts all over again.

Map – And our governor was right on this. But I’m sure everyone knows that, the anti-lockdown protest in Denver got so much attention. Grrr. Senator Bennet emailed a photo of him and his family social distancing on a hike out in Colorado wilderness, and ended by saying, “I promise you get used to the mask.”

WW – Of course he would cheat Oregon. It’s one of the bluest; possibly THE bluest if you don’t cound eastern (trans-Cascadian) Oregon.

Dog Breeder – Possibly Trump* thought that if he could breed dogs, he could be good at breeding chaos. On second thought, Trump*’s not that reasonable.

Past – This brings back memories all right – but memories of the late seventies. One of the people in my class on orchestration (and there were only 3 of us, so everything got heard) used it as her basic theme.

To those wo observe it, a thoughtful and spiritually enriching Ramadan.

  2. PPE: So Sad!
    TVU: Saddest.
WW: Gawd, he’s such an As-! Blue vs. Red. How juvenile/low can he get?
LSC: Welp…that explains everything, doesn’t it?
    YT: Love this one!

Sounds like a rough night for you. I do hope that it goes away, and that you can get the rest that you need. Take good, good care, and Thanks, Tom.

This just in: Prayers for Maxine Waters and her family, as her sister is dying of coronavirus. *dkos
    2. re: injection of disinfectant to beat covid – “Just when you think it’s rock bottom, Trump breaks a new low and his supporters applaud and stand by it.”  ~ George M. ~
    3. “Vote by Mail !!! Save the Postal Service, avoid Russian intervention.” ~ Hank H. ~
    4.  dt’s daily press briefing – “The look on Dr. Birx’s face means nothing. She should have gotten up, walked out, and held her own press conference. She’s as much an enabler as Yertle Moscow Mitch.” ~ Alan H. ~

  3. The ratio of total deaths to total reported cases is scary, and it should be. This is why we need to continue sheltering in place and social distancing. The banana brains taking part in anti-quarantine protests are not standing up for liberty, but for foolish disobedience. Besides, these hypocrites are all for knuckling under to authority when it comes to persecuting immigrants and LGBTQ people.

  4. Feel better.
‘Toon:  I no longer believe that that party deserves to have it’s name capitalized.  Its leader, and body politic have stayed at the party much too long.
TVD: Could one of those in Wyoming be a former Vice-President, or president of vice?
WW: They lie.  Dumpy would never say “Be kind. Stay healthy.”
LSC: Does he feed disinfectant to his dogs?  You know, if not, he’s simply unqualified.
    BFTP: Love it!
I have to agree with Pat, Birx ought to have said “Enough of this lunacy!”  And done it right there.

  5. So sorry your Republicosis is so tenacious. I hope it will subside soon. Keep yourself hydrated, TomCat.

    2:44 A very oldfashioned boat

    Cartoon: Bodybags, you mean?

Update: When I said yesterday that the next maps would be black, I was joking…

WW: The administration cheats/cheated the blue states out of PPE, tests and ventilators, so cheating those states out of coverage by the federal Paycheck Protection Program is by the book.
Elizabeth Warren calls for probe into Trump’s red-state favoritism on federal medical supplies

LS: Steve Cobert and his team hit the nail right on worth this parody. Trump is quite open about his contempt for the American people, isn’t he?

BFTP: Yes, lots of memories. I’m wondering now why it was such a big hit at the time, though. Can’t have been because of the brilliant text.

  6. Cartoon: That shows the style of these heartless R’s  perfectly.
TVU: Scary. Still climbing here, up another 183 new cases today, now we’re at 2826.
    WW: No good as*holes.
LS: Dog breeder running the the Covid-19 force?? Again we see where tRump’s brain is.
BFTP: Lovely song. Still is one of my favorite songs by George Harrison.
Sorry to hear that you weren’t doing well earlier this morning. Hope your stomach calmed down during the afternoon.
    Take care.
    Thanks TomCat

  7. Good to se you back in good form, despite the republicosis Tom Cat,I wish you all the best.☺️🌷

  8. WW: No doubt Donnie & Sec. Mnuchin are just shocked that Red States are raking in the moola, while Blue States get the shaft.

    I’m sure it’s just a coinkydink.

  9. CA was 38%.  Lawsuit because the big banks moved big amount requests ahead of smaller ones (they make more money that way).  AP found $365 million in large loans to publicly traded companies. Mnuchin stepped up his rhetoric ordering them to return or refuse them…after Warren’s announcement (she lost her older brother to the virus last week). Also during the week was confirmation CA had community spread in early February–weeks before CDC would allow testing for anyone not connected to travel to specific countries.  Our governor got promise from Trump for swabs so we can boost our testing (silence so far on the other related shortage item).  Any bets on how long the friendliness lasts?  Still inadequate testing in my county.  Mayor Breed of SF also shared about heist and redirects of supplies they had ordered.
So sorry your sleep was hurt yet again–sleep is so important for so many things.
Does anyone still wonder why qualifications for the job are supposed to matter?

  10. Hi there,
WWW here on Tom’s behalf.  Wanted to let you all know that Tom was admitted to the hospital last night for dehydration and a possible infection in his intestines.  Of course, it took them 7 hours to make that decision – so we were both in a fine mood when it finally came.  They tested him for trump virus and the results have not come back yet.  Because of this, he is in isolation and is unable to receive visitors or any belongings from home. As you can imagine, that put him in an even more cranky mood.  They are giving him yet another trump virus test today because they feel he is at high risk for the virus.   He is anxious to get home back to his cat box.  Unfortunately, I think this is the beginning of some yucky side effects to the chemo.  We will both appreciate your kind thoughts and prayers for a quick return home.  If need be, I will post another update but am hoping he will return home tomorrow.
    Kind regards,
    Wendy
