Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: The National Incompetence Stockpiles, the federal reserves of inanity and ineptitude to be drawn upon in times of crisis, are at “full capacity,” the Government Accountability Office announced on Saturday.

According to the G.A.O., the Incompetence Stockpiles are so well stocked at the moment that they are in danger of overflowing.

“The sheer tonnage of failure and impotence that is being dumped into the stockpiles on a daily basis is straining their ability to contain it,” the G.A.O. statement read.

Davis Logsdon, a professor at the University of Minnesota who has written the definitive book about the National Incompetence Stockpiles, said that the nation’s futility reserves stand at their highest levels ever, eclipsing the record stockpiles established during the tenure of President George W. Bush.

“The Bush Administration tapped the National Incompetence Stockpiles when it invaded Iraq and responded to Hurricane Katrina,” Logsdon said. “At the time, it seemed as though the stockpiles would never be fully replenished, and that makes the Trump Administration’s achievement all the more striking.”

What can I say, Andy? You could not have nailed this better!  RESIST!!

From YouTube (Raw Story Channel): Devin Nunes: Homeless people are the ‘zombie apocalypse’

Barf Bag Alert!!

Nincompoop Nunes had it bass-ackwards. If America has a zombie apocalypse, it’s the Republican Reich. This is the garbage that the Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda, Faux Noise, feeds their deplorable sheeple.  RESIST!!

From YouTube (a blast from the past): Rolling Stones – Angie (HQ)

Ah… the memories!  RESIST!!

  1. Cartoon: Yep…!
TVU: My county is @the same number, but statewide…it’s a disaster, as is the rest of our country. Sad.
    NYer: Truth!! be told.
BBA: Rather than complain about this, why not help them? He’s got the time and $$$.
BFTP: Love the Stones! Great song!

HI, Wendy! Hope that you both have a good day. Take a breather, relax, and enjoy the rest of your day. Take care, and Thanks, Tom.

*This just in: “The captain who was removed from command of the coronavirus-stricken aircraft carrier U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt has tested positive for Covid-19, according to two people close to him and his family.” ~VoteVets~ via NYT.  11:24 AM · Apr 5, 2020 *Healing prayers to him and those sailors, for a speedy recovery. *pb
    2. “The last two weeks have been a strange 10 years.” ~ Stephen Colbert ~
    3. “Here’s the general Rule: You don’t put stuff on your head if you’re President. That’s Politics 101.”
    President Obama
    4. “What amazes me is how well Trump can pronounce ‘Hydroxychloroquine!’ ” ~ Alicia B. ~
    5. “DT really, really, really wants those sport arenas open again to hold his rallies.” ~ Brandon M. ~

    • TJI #1 – Yes. Of course he is. He’s been acting as a front line fighter against it, and they are always the most vulnerable. Prayers for him and his sailors hardly seems like enough … but it’s all we have.  01

  2. The “toon connects very nicely with Borowitz!
BBA: Nunes is despicable, and not in the cartoon sense.
    BFTP: Wonderful!

  3. Busy … and, I hope, uneventful. Excitiement is overrated.

Here’s a piece of literature which was written for Republicans (though they were then calling themselves Democrats) over 150 years ago:
    Arthur Hugh Clough (1819-1861)
    The Latest Decalogue

Thou shalt have one God only; who
Would tax himself to worship two?
God’s image nowhere shalt thou see,
    Save haply in the currency:
Swear not at all; since for thy curse
Thine enemy is not the worse:
At church on Sunday to attend
Will help to keep the world thy friend:
Honor thy parents; that is, all
    From whom promotion may befall:
Thou shalt not kill; but needst not strive
    Officiously to keep alive:
    Adultery it is not fit
Or safe, for women, to commit:
Thou shalt not steal; an empty feat,
When ’tis so lucrative to cheat:
    False witness not to bear be strict;
    And cautious, ere you contradict.
Thou shalt not covet; but tradition
    Sanctions the keenest competition.

    Cartoon – So much truth.

TNY – That is very impressive, especially whe you consider how much there is that’s not being stockpiled, but floating around free for anyone to grab. Are they sue it hasn’t already overflowed?

RS – Sounds like the homeless have made it into the number one scapegoat position, surpassing both immigrant prisoners and judicial prioners. That’s worthy of note – not positive note, but negative note. “The homeless” includes a large number of veterans (as do the other two groups – yes, there are non-citizen veterans, probably not news to anyone here but would be news to too many Americans), and that scares me too, even though the fact that all three groups are made up of 100% human beings ought to be scary enough. Well, it does become clearer and clearer that Rethuglican lip service to veterans and even active duty military is just that – lip service.

other RS – People are saying that Mick Jagger, and especially Keith Richards, are immortal, that nothing could kill them. Many people are saying this. (I wish the same could be said of Marianne Faithful, who is hospitalized with COVID even now.)

  4. Cartoon: Fits them perfectly.
TVU: Keeps raising everywhere. Saying the worse is coming this week. Scary.
    NY: Yeah true.
RS: nUnus is despicable. Sure his first name isn’t Devil?? Like his rotten leader, they could care less for the homeless. Just like Joanne mentioned, a lot of them are vets.
BFTP: Loved the song by the Stones.
Tell Wendy “Hi”. Hope you and her got your tasks taken care of with no problems.
    Good luck tomorrow.
    Take care. Thanks TomCat

  5. Cartoon: Just call me stupid.

Update: See my comment yesterday. It’s no use comparing different countries when rates of new cases and new deaths are reported over different intervals. For most other countries this would be a 24-hour interval; I have no idea what is reported for the US. Your top map really says it all: it’s really bad.

TNY: Brilliant analysis essay, Andy. Sadly it isn’t satire.

RS: You’d think Trump has hardened me over the past three years, but Republicans like Nunes still manage to nauseate me to the point of silence with his zombie apocalypse brought on by letting criminals, i.e. drug offenders, out of jail.

BFTP: One of the best Stone songs.
