On Thursday, we hit a grim watershed. The US overtook Italy and China as the country with the highest number of confirmed Covid-19 cases. This is a dire crisis and an extraordinary failure of President Donald Trump. Americans are suffering and dying because the Trump administration failed to act quickly and decisively to prevent the virus’ spread. The US has now seen about 1,195 deaths and the number is rising rapidly.
On Thursday, the US saw an increase of more than 15,000 cases in one day — a shocking surge that can be explained by both the spread of the virus and increased testing after weeks of shortages — pushing the total number of confirmed cases over 82,000. China, in comparison, has reported 81,285 cases.
There is a fundamental difference between China and the US. China has broken the spread of the virus with a lockdown that first started in Wuhan on January 23 and is now being lifted in stages; only a few dozen new cases are allegedly confirmed each day, and most of these are apparently introduced from abroad. The US has not broken the epidemic. And if Trump has his way, easing guidelines to stay at home by Easter, we will fail to stop the epidemic and millions more will be infected. Even with active control, we might be facing around 81,000 deaths by July according to a new detailed analysis from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington in Seattle…

I know some little children 4 and 6 respectively…that are smarter and truthful than dt,

I’ve been predicting this “triumph” of Trump’s making for several days now; anyone who could add a few numbers together and compared the infection rates with that of other countries could have predicted it, except for the Trump administration, of course. And I’m so sorry for America that I and many others were right on something nobody wanted to be right about. So why is this administration not sorry?!
As an outsider, I’m absolutely shocked that the federal government has done nothing to take the distribution of medical equipment such as ventilators and masks in hand but are, in fact, competing for these resources with the states in bids for them. If it isn’t taking the responsibility for distributing them fairly among the states, then WTF is the federal government going to do with that equipment? Are they going to supply some private hospitals in Washington DC for the even more private use of members of the administration who have caught COVID-19?

It’s always an interesting moral point. If you (our private for-profit health care system) hire a hit man (the Republican Party and *Trump) to take out an enemy (all the regulatory and advisory agencies and people who know what they are doing), who is the most culpable for that hit? I think most people would believe it the guy paying for the contract who is most guilty, but, historically (and sadly not just here) court have usually seen it the other way. Of course, built into that is a matter of means. How do you take to court and punish such a large organization? How do you appropriately punish the wealthy individual who knows all the angles to avoid actions which are provable and who has all the most expensive lawyers to establish that? Yes, Orange Judas is guilty, and he also was used.
Passing Italy is a milestone, but a less impressive one in my mind than passing China. No one (and perhaps this is a good thing) is reporting on cases per capita, but it doesn’t take much knowledge of geography to grasp that Italy has a much smaller population (even before this) than either China or the US, whose populations are more comparable.
I do think I’d rather be competing in the open market, as a purple state with a Democratic governor and some resources against dirt poor red states, than having to compete by groveling to *Trump and getting nothing. But, yeah, we shouldn’t be having to compete at all.
After Randy Rainbow’s last offering but two, I re-watched “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” Everyone knows the story Cutting to where Joseph was able to interpret Pharaoh’s dream to warn him of seven years of plenty followed by seven years of famine, Pharaoh was able to plan to stockpile food for seven years to that when the famine hit, he could still feed the nation. This Pharaoh we have instead fired and destroyed Joseph, and now the nation is helpless.

I do not watch the asshole on TV, and now Seattle NPR won’t be showing his propaganda broadcasts. Hopefully more stations will follow suit, many more. I have to agree with others that I’m sick of listening to tRump’s flipping bullsh*t.
I had been signing petitions against telling these channel not to air his daily briefs.
Watching the professionals, not pEnce, standing behind him getting irritated with what comes out of tRump’s mouth.
I praise our governors like Cuomo, Newson and others for standing up for the people. Telling tRump what they need for their states and not backing down on their requests.
The daily rate of people has been going up rapidly. Los Angeles, figures that in the next 6 days at the rate it’s going it will match New York. Now if that isn’t something to be worried about, I don’t know what is?
I’m happy knowing that our local governors don’t have to go along with tRump’s idea of opening up businesses.

My county’s count increased 800% in the past week now that we finally have some resources for testing…and another 25% yesterday from the day before. I have friends who are health care professionals asking for anyone to make scrub caps and surgical face masks so they can be safe…the latter are being worn over N95 as instead of disposing as normal, being forced to reuse.
This is one where someone has blood on their hands where criminal charges are in order (deaths be negligence are prosecutable).
And remember Nixon is the one who made it OK for health care to be for profit…….
