It’s a bush day here in the CatBox.  I got a late start, because I overslept.  WWWendy is in the way.  I will probably have to finish this after my shower.  This is my only article today.

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Hat-Tip Alternet): Shocking video captures Trump supporter buying Dollar Tree store out of toilet paper

Is this greedy bitch typical of the Republican Reich or what? RESIST!!

From The New Yorker: In a new controversy ensnaring the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, forty per cent of the nation’s toilet-paper supply has been found in Senator Richard Burr’s garage.

The discovery of the coveted paper products occurred on Saturday morning, when Burr, who had been checking stock quotes on his phone, accidentally leaned against his garage-door opener.

The garage immediately disgorged the priceless cache of toilet paper, which tumbled into the street and snarled traffic for three blocks.

Picking through the mess, a sharp-eyed neighbor of Burr’s found a Costco receipt indicating that the senator had purchased the toilet paper in early January, shortly after he received classified information about the potential scope of the covid-19 pandemic.

Andy, Burr has a reasonable excuse. Most of us have small assholes, but Republicans’ assholes extend from the crowns of their heads to the soles of their feet and are both internal and external. That’s a lot to wipe!  RESIST!!

From YouTube (CNN Channel): Ex-Labor secretary: Bail out families, not corporations

Of course the Reich on the left, Robert Reich is right. The Reich on the right, the evil Republican Reich, wants to bail out criminal corporations. Bail out people. Corporations are NOT people!  RESIST!!

From YouTube (a blast from the past): THE WHO – I Can See For Miles (1969)

Ah… the memories!  RESIST!!

AN: Not a good role model there at all. Selfish and mean too. ugh!
NYer: For some reason, this story hit my funny-bone. I found this HILARIOUS to read. Thanks for the laughs!
RR: Good information here. Will be passing this important information on.

    3. dt – “You cut funding to the CDC, you fired the Pandemic Team, you refused WHO tests, you wasted 2 weeks calling the outbreak a ‘Democratic Hoax!’. This is what a failed up public response to a pandemic looks like. You broke it. You own it.” ~ U.M. ~

    5. Did you know that?  Dr. Emily Porter, sister of California Congresswoman Katie Porter, recently released a video on YouTube that explained the importance of flattening the curve amid the coronavirus pandemic?  She works at the Wrinkle Free MD: Med Spa and Wellness Clinic in Austin, Texas.

  3. Best to WWWendy! Enjoy the day!

Cartoon – It was realy only useful when people needed lots of kids to be confident at least some would survive to care for them. I would think they would now rather have strings of mistresses anyway

Virus – I don’t know why out number is so high, because Governor Polis is all over it. Or maybe that is why – aggressive testing will find more cases.

Video – Sorry, TC, the bar for shocking has moved so far that this isn’t. Disgusting, infuriating, discouraging, all of that. Not shocking. Not one little bit. (Of course, it wasn’t you who claimed is was.)

TNY – I suppose when people are in bad situations – as we all are, God knows – little things which were previously ignored start to become annoying. It’s starting to annoy me that TP is associated exclusively with buttholes. Half the sky needs and uses it for a different orifice as well. No, not that one, though right next to it. We are the reason softness is valued in TP.

RR – Of course he is right. We already had soup kitchens, breadlines, and homeless long before this. And – it’s going to get worse. It’s too bad we couldn’t have realized we needed another FDR before we needed another FDR and elected one in 2016. I wonder how long it will take us to figure it out. If we ever do. If we don’t, then it’s all over.

Past – Oh, yes. Very catchy. (And, incidentally, in the mountains near me, the title is accurate.)

  4. I will be back later hopefully but I wanted to share this piece from The Guardian.  When talk of ramping up the COVID-19 response came from Trump and Congress was negotiating for the money and programme details, my initial response included a prediction that Trump would divert some of that needed funding for the pandemic response to his “big, beautiful wall”.

“There is no sign of construction slowing down, hundreds of construction workers from all over the country and Mexico continue working on the wall, commuting back and forth on weekends, staying in hotels and eating at restaurants in our communities, before returning home and potentially transferring Covid-19. This is a public health hazard and it needs to be stopped,” said Myles Traphagen, ecologist with Wildlands Network, who has written to the congressional appropriations committee urging construction be suspended during the pandemic. …

Since then, the Trump administration has pledged to erect or replace 450 to 500 miles of the wall by the end of 2020, at a cost of almost $18.5bn. The vast majority of the money was diverted from the US Department of Defense, specifically from counter-drug operations and military infrastructure projects, after Trump declared a national emergency, widely seen as spurious, in February 2019 to fund the wall. …

“The DHS is throwing billions at a monument out in the desert that will have little practical effect on migration or drug trafficking, when there’s a very real threat that needs all of our attention and resources right now,” said Adam Isacson, director of the defence oversight program at the Washington Office on Latin America (Wola). …

Do read the article as there is more.  The workers are basically taking no COVID-19 precautions and are taking the disease back to their families all over the US and Mexico.  This makes me absolutely livid!  Trump is so irresponsible!!!  Trump MUST BE STOPPED!!!

In another article from Bloomberg, 2 people in Nigeria have been poisoned by chloroquine because they followed Trump’s news that it was effective against COVID-19 so they self medicated.  People should not self medicate but in dangerous times, people will do things to avoid the disease, even against their own best interests.

    Trump MUST BE STOPPED!!!

  5. TVU: Here in San Diego, it has jumped to 205, that’s 74 in the past 24 hours. Plus our first death of a man in his 70’s. Scary.
AN: Stinking bi*ch. I hope that they can track her down. Too bad it didn’t catch fire on her ride home.  Hope she will pay for her greedy sin.
    TNY: Evil rotten as*hole.
    CNN: Agree with R.R. 100%.
BFTP: Great tune. Always was a huge fan of The Who. They had so many top hits.
Hope you had a great visit with Wendy. That you had a better day with your meals.
    Take care. Thanks TomCat

  6. 2:42 It looks like I’m the only one besides you, TomCat, who’s reporting time here. Don’t keep it on my behalf if you’re short on time.

Update: Scary how fast it spreads, isn’t it? New Zealand is going into lockdown (self-isolation) while they have 102 confirmed cases. America is lagging a bit behind, isn’t it?

Alternet: The Republican tells the lady videoing her to go video the store because they sold the toilet paper to her. And she’s right in that respect, if only in this. Here there was a limit of one item per customer imposed by all supermarkets within a day for all hoarded goods such as toilet paper, pasta and hand sanitizers and the like.

TNY: You should do a check of the garages and sheds of certain DINOs too, Andy.

RR: We’re somewhere in the middle with our right-wing Aussie government; it is giving companies money not to lay off people but put them on sick leave for the duration but for a lower salary. But that isn’t fool-proof yet as the companies do not have to guarantee they take people back as soon as it is all over for now. This will keep the unemployment numbers down a bit and those that are self-employed and now out of work will get a higher than usual employment benefit. The government is working on other measures as well such as banning foreclosures and evictions when people can’t pay their mortgage or rent, but that hasn’t been finalized yet.

BFTP: Great number, very germane in that we’d all like to know what’s ahead of us in the coming months.

  7. Cartoon — Good thing!  You’d think that one spouse would be quite enough!

Trump Virus Update — See my previous comment #4 and one that will follow this post.

AlterNet — I mirror Colleen with “Stinking bitch” only I’ll take the star out.  Today, a local family was in a public park selling masks, sanitiser etc at outrageous markups.  One mask was $20.00 and a box was $40.00!  I don’t know how many masks in a box.  She was noticed and reported to the city mayor.  He was livid and a by-law officer gave her a ticket for $500.  She did the same thing the next day at a different park and was given another $500 ticket.  The RCMP are now investigating this as a criminal matter.  I hope she is charged by the Crown, tried and found guilty.

The New Yorker — I agree with you on this.  I found myself wondering if somebody might try buying up all the feminine hygiene pads and try making them into masks.  Try visualising a guy wearing one of those across his face as he strolls down the street.  I started LMAO!

Robert Reich — “Taxpayer money should be used to bail out people, not corporations.”  AMEN!!!

Blast — I remember this one and singing along only I would try to string out the “miles and miles and miles and miles and miles”.

  8. I started watching US politics as a way to understand Canadian politics as we saw with Stephen Harper.  The times were different  and so were the players.  I want to share with you an article which I read today from the Canadian Press — Opposition must take a different approach in COVID-19 fight, says Andrew Scheer.

    Quoting Scheer:

“There really isn’t much philosophical difference when it comes to fighting a virus or keeping Canadians healthy and safe,” he said.

Scheer (Conservative Party leader and leader of the Loyal Opposition) has said that they will not hold up the government aid packages but will instead offer suggestions to make it better.  This is what I expect!  Working together for the people! I also should say that I am NOT a fan of Scheer and I don’t trust him.  However, if he holds to this, his standing will go up with me.

Now compare that approach to that of the US where partisanship is still very much in evidence.  With the resident squatter in the WH and his supporters and enablers in full swing, the US in my opinion is doomed during this crisis.  Nobody is perfect, especially politicians.  But the US has a snoot full of idiots in power for the sake of power.

    • And I remember when you did.  Many years ago you used to be notorious for intelligent questions.  Since, you have become notorious for intelligent.  As you are a co-Administrator of this site, I would love to have seen an article from you on Sheer’s quote.  Remember, before too long, you, JD, and Nameless will be running the site, while I try to haunt you into good ideas. 12

      • I thought to do a separate article but I wanted to get my comment and the article out for others to see and ruminate on in this presidential election year.

Having just read and listened to Sen Joe Manchin go toe to toe with Bought Bitch Moscow Mitch on a procedural matter (cloture) for the proposed senate bill to as I understand it, “bail out corporations” but go light on the American population, everybody needs to stand up to Republicans.  They cannot give in because it will be twisted and abused by the Republicans.  Likewise, Harry Reid made agreements with the “Bitch” and he (the “Bitch”) broke those agreements every time.

To quote a rather famous progressive who frequents this site, “Every Republican in office is one too many!”

      • Since, you have become notorious for intelligent.” what?  22
