It’s a hectic day, here in the CatBox.  I tried to refill seven prescriptions at Walgreens (now Alliance) Mail Order Pharmacy and, after trying at the website for three days, called them.  I learned that they are no longer the preferred mail order pharmacy.  I went to the Providence website and learned that Costco Mail Order Pharmacy is now the one.  It took me over three hours to set up my account there, enter all my prescription, call my doctor, and arrange for her to fax them over to Costco.  Then Walgreen’s sent me an email that they were processing my order.  I called them back.  It turns out they assumed I wanted to pay for those prescriptions myself.  I told that poor CS gal that they should changer their name again from Alliance to Ulysses.  “Why?” she asked.  I replied, so customers can call them Useless for short!!”   ARGH!!!  Needless to say, all that cut into my research time Big Time, so this is my only article today.  Oh God, it’s Monday!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:06 (average 6:36). To do it, click here.  How did you do?

  1. 5:54 You probably don’t want to eat those anyway. But they’ll swing nicely if batted.

I certainly know what you mean about Walgreens mail order. I normally get my prescriptions from Walgreens at the local drive-through. Last year when I couldn’t count on my van to start, I went with the mail order. It took a month to get them and they overcharged me. I hope the Costco one does better. Costco has a decent reputation, but so does Walgreens – apparently these mail order things are “alliances,” which means “contracted out” and nothing like the parent name. Sigh.

    Cartoon – Probably anything vanilla.

NBC – Are you surprised? Even so much as a quintillionth part of an atomic particle? The imminent threat was never to the US. The imminent threat was impeachment (and it still is – maybe even more so.)

538 – A Daily Kos diary sent me over to this article at The Root. Frequently “pundits” don’t talk to the actual voters whose opinions they expound on, and that may be particularly true when the group is black voters. The author of this was looking specifically at older black voters, and he actually talked with a lot of them, to find out why they stay with Joe. There are a lot of interesting quotes, but this may be the juiciest and kind of sums it all up: “I don’t think Biden will do a damn thing for black people. But he knows he needs black votes to win, so he’ll do what’s necessary for us. That’s better than most.” That doesn’t mean all is lost. Warren came in at #2 (#3 Bernie, #4 Tom Steyer – really. Even Andrew Yang at #5 comes in ahead of Cory Booker who came in at #6.) The numbers are interesting, but the quotes even more so. Bottom line for me is, yes, I want Elizabeth too, but we may have to start thinking about our grassroots game when a Democratic President needs nudging. Also, taking the Senate remains of utmost importance.

Past – I mentioned recently, in connection with a puzzle showing a fishing boat, that I went fishing in a boat once and caught a barracuda. That was about ten years before this came out. Apparently things haven’t changed much from when this was written. Oh, the fish? It “lived” in my freezer for a while, glaring at anyone who opened the door. I eventually gave it to someone who knew how to cook them.

    • I suppose your comment yesterday WRT the Chiefs’ fireworks is correct – but they are festive:

      • They certainly are.  I love fireworks myself – professionally done ones, that is.  But if it gets to the point where they seriously need to be stopped or delayed (like Oz setting them off while wildfires were exploding), I can handle that.

  2. Cartoon: Yep, pretty much says it all.
NBCNC: Gawd, I really don’t honestly know how these id’s sleep at night….all liars and deceivers..him (dt) being the main one. ugh!
YT: I’m w/you on this one, GO, Ms. Warren!!
BFTP: Love this band!! Good times too.

Glad to read that you got your prescrips delivery resolved, sounds like it was not only time consuming, but frustrating also. WTG, that it’s done though. Hope that you get your rest, take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. A Chiefs story I saw this morning especially for Nameless:https://www.huffpost.com/entry/chiefs-fan-leaves-early-comeback_n_5e1c41f4c5b6640ec3d74132Like Joanne, I have noted GOP senators on impeachment being the urgent threat leading to war crime against Iran (and attempt in Yemen)–something Bush the 1st and Obama consistently said no to doing when suggested by the voices Trump apparently chose.A Biden win means a Trump win in Nov. IMO…I note that the younger voters, including those of color which outnumber their older counterparts, are for Bernie–polls undercount this age group who did turn out to make the difference in 2018…I believe similar GOTV strategies are being implemented for this year.I’ve mean doing RX refills by mail forever (want to discuss with pharmacist on all new ones)–lots of glitch types history now so my main complaints is the increased presence of plastic in packaging/envelopes concurrent with company announcing green goals commitments…not contracted out, and yes I’ve filed concerns repeatedly over the years which often leads to improvements.

  4. The frustrations associated with RX by mail, especially when changes are made by the “others,” can be maddening!  Glad you got it sorted out.
‘Toon: Probably, no, certainly, the only equal opportunity aspect of the creep!
NBC: “I can reveal that I believe….”  What you say you “believe,” is not worth the air it took to say it.  “Baghdad had already started.” What the hell does that sentence fragment mean?  McTurtle and Dumpy are almost peas in a pod scumbags.
538: I hate predictions, as they tend to be either useless, or they tilt the balances themselves.  I do not want to see Biden take Iowa.
    Heart: I recall the song.
    Pat:  #’s 1 and 5 rock, especially!

  5. Thanks, JL – sadly, your link looks like it had the “Like” included – and so doesn’t work.  But I suspect this is the HP article you were referring to:

    https://www.huffpost.com/entry/chiefs-fan-leaves-early-comeback_n_5e1c41f4c5b6640ec3d74132

Naturally it was all over the news here, especially Mahomes’ answer: “Watch the game at home.”

And Charles Penn now refers to himself rather than his Twitter handle of “Big Buck Chuck” to “Bad Luck Chuck”.

But QB Mahomes did respond to him w/ a nice Thank You:

[Note: Arrowhead Stadium is referred to us “Chiefs Kingdom”]

  6. Maybe Walgreens is having a bad week.  Just the other day when I went in to pick up my Rx I had to wait almost THIRTY MINUTES – and there were only TWO customers ahead of me.

Because of my hearing I always go in, and while I was waiting the gal that handles the drive up waited on ONE person – and never came over to help the other clerk.

I actually used the http://www.walgreenslistens.com option and gave them a Survey full of legitimate complaints.

The sad part is that this is not the first, second or even third time for an event just like this.

    • It all comes down to employees, doesn’t it.  They are not just like cogs, any one easily replaceable by any other.  And management in general will probably never get it.  In my experience, some “middle managers” do, but far from all (and good “middle managers” and low level supervisors are underappreciated too..)

  7. Losing their top spot as preferred mail-order pharmacy had Walgreens doing everything possible to show why they lost that spot. Annoying enough if you ordered a T-shirt or some printer paper, but as you ordered medications you depend upon, their service was unacceptable. I’m glad it didn’t cause you harm, TomCat.Monday the 13th isn’t as bad as Friday the 13th yet.

4:08 I couldn’t decide which hanger to hang my coat on.

NBC: If anyone started to prove a point with “I can reveal that I believed it…” you’d know they were lying. With trump opening his mouth you know he’s lying. The only thing imminent is impeachment.

538: I hope Democrats in Iowa are more than usual smarter than their Republican counterparts and vote for someone who will help America get on top of the post-Trump era, not just survive it.

BFTP: I remember the song, but can’t say I was overly fond of it.

  8. Well, it’s obvious that the model in your cartoon is a republican – because her “speech bubble” is coming straight out of her ass.

That’s the same place that *Rump pulls all of his imaginary “facts” – like “imminent attack on four embassies”.  He pulls them straight out of his ass.  It explains why they all stink.

  9. Yep, that’s Microdick Donald for ya! As for the bumper sticker Joanne found – poor angels!

  10. Cartoon: Yep that fits dt perfectly.
NBC: Blows me away the way tRump’s appointees play along with his made up lies. tRump always has to make up these dramas to try and get people’s minds off of his upcoming impeachment hearings.
538: I too hope that Ms Warren wins Iowa.
BFTP: I like the group Heart. Good tune.
Sorry to hear about the huge mess you had to deal with regarding your prescriptions. If they changed who you were suppose to order from, why didn’t they notify you???  I’ve heard that Costco pharmacy is good with their prices. I’ve never used it myself. Hopefully they will turn out being a good change for you.
I hope that you’re feeling better.
    Take care. Thanks TomCat

  11. hectic day then Tom Cat.3029

  12. Thanks and Hugs to all. 17

I suspect that Providence fired Walgreens due to complaints from policyholders, and I have made complaints like that on more than one occasion.  When I fired Wellpartner and changed to them after having to go without insulin for over a week, they were great for a few months, but the bottom fell out of their service a year ago, and I had already put them on notice that the next screw up was their last, as I was on the verge of canning them myself. 13
