It’s a busy day here in the CatBox.  I want to finish as early as I can, so I can get a partial nap in before Store to Door delivers groceries.  Tomorrow, please expect no more than a Personal Update from me tomorrow.  I have to take my specimen to the lab: a four hour trip for a five minute procedure.  Hurry Hugs to all!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:33 (average 5:13).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Alternet: 1. Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) doubled down on bogus Crowdstrike conspiracy theory

Rep. Devin Nunes has not been shy about promoting the conspiracy theory known as Crowdstrike, which claims that interference in the 2016 presidential election came not from the Russian government and President Vladimir Putin, but from the Ukrainian government. And Nunes continued to promote that discredited theory when questioning Taylor. Nunes, more than once, mentioned “Ukrainian election meddling.” But when Democratic counsel Daniel Goldman asked Kent if there was any credible evidence that Ukraine’s government interfered in the 2016 election, Kent responded, “To my knowledge, there’s no factual basis.”

This is the first of five wild moment’s in yesterday’s impeachment hearing. Click through fot the other four. RESIST!!

From YouTube (Daily Kos Channel): Rep. Peter Welch calls Jim Jordan’s bluff

Trump won’t testify. He and Jordan are alike, but different. Jordan is all balls, no brain. Trump is no balls, no brain.  RESIST!!

From YouTube (a blast from the past): Gary Wright – Dream Weaver

Ah… the memories!  RESIST!!

  1. ‘Toon: Mitch McConnell’s motto?
Nunes, whose introductory remarks I purposely did not watch, yesterday, is a clown’s clown.  It is too bad that, as I understand it, he represents an intellectually backwards district!
You-Tube/DK: did anyone notice how Welch had to contain his impulse to laughter before he delivered that marvelous one-liner?  The Twitterverse is having a ball with these fools!
    Dream Weaver:  Love it.

  2. Cartoon: Of course I will, saith the devil (and R’s)!
AN: Better to read about him than listen to this id/cad. He must stay up late trying to figure out all his bs & lies, and in getting them in order. I can almost say with certainty that his Alt-Mom is not happy with his behavior and antics during the trial. link below:

DK: Love it !! That was FANtastic!
    BFTP: Sweet !!
Hope that you get a chance to rest up. Tomorrow sounds like a bummer …a long day for you for sure. Hope that you get to and fro okay, and that all is good. Take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

*This just in: re: dt’s tax returns – “You know what would be amusing? That they find nothing criminal, but that he’s actually broke and owes a lot of money. If I can’t see the man behind bars, I’ll settle for seeing him ruined.” ~Thomas R. ~
re: Devin Nune’s: “The man who is suing an imaginary cow is giving the Republicans’ opening statement in the impeachment inquiry. Dear America, we tried…we tried.” ~ Andrew Janz ~

  3. 5:28 – They really didn’t need to re-use this one quite so soon after Monday.

We interrupt this impeachment coverage to bring you an important message from the Census Bureau

    Cartoon – yup, that’s Republican supply-side Jesus.

AlterNet – I think it was Marcy Wheeler of emptywheel blog who cataloged 9 lies just in Nunes opening statement (and has been much quoted).

YouTube – Yes, this was indeed a hoot. I gather Republicans inserted him onto one of the committees just to dox and repeat the name of the person they have decided is the whistleblower, probably with no evidence whatsoever, but still with the effect of setting Trumps disorganized militia onto him. (The rest of us don’t even know whether the whistleblower is even a him, but the scapegoat they chose is.)

Past – I do remember this one vaguely.

    • Your Resist Persist Insist background looks very familiar, JD. I think it is the city gateway of Hoorn, a little harbour village on the Ijsselmeer in The Netherlands, in its heyday from the Middle Ages to the 18th century a rich merchant town when the lake was still an open sea connecting to the North Sea, called the Zuider Zee.

  4. I thought yesterday’s Impeachment Hearing Day #1 went very well.

The only major suggestion would be to counter Rethuglicans’ endless mantra of “hearsay – hearsay – hearsay” would be something along the lines of …

“You want first-hand testimony?  Fine let Bolton, Mulvaney and even Trump himself come and testify UNDER OATH w/ PENALTY OF PERJURY IN PLACE!”

    • When the crime is committed by means of verbal communication, then anyone who hears and repeats that communication IS giving first hand evidence.

That granted, I agree a confession would be nice.

      • I agree – but we’ve only heard testimony from Ambassador Taylor & Mr. Kent (and today Ambassador Yovanovitch).  None of them heard any Trump conversations – so they can only provide hearsay testimony WRT Trump what Trump said.

We haven’t heard from David Holmes and Suriya Jayanti – the two new State Dept. staffers just identified who did hear Trump talk w/ Sondland.

  5. The cartoon perfectly sums up the Rethuglican perversion of Jesus!

Dream Weaver – how I love that song!

  6. Cartoon: Agree with others that it fits the Repug’s religous thoughts perfectly.
AN: nUnes can take his conspiracy theory and stick it up his a**. It was awful just listening to him.
DK: I got a real kick out of seeing Rep. Peter Welch come right back at dumba** jOrdan.
BFTP: What a great tune Dream Weaver was. Thanks for the memories.
Sorry to hear that you have to go for a four hour transit, just to take your specimens in.
Just be safe when you’re out.
    Take care. Thanks TomCat

  7. Have a good trip Tom Cat,get back home and relax.😯😴

  8. 2:47 Haven’t seen those for a long time.

Cartoon: Republicans need to blame someone for their sins and a-morality, might as well be Jesus because it couldn’t possibly be down to them, right?

Alternet: Nunes still hopes that if you repeat a lie, or in his case a whole bunch of lies, often enough and loud enough they’ll become “true”. Of course for his and Trump’s voters, this will be true.

DK: Peter Wells took that shot for open goal (Dutch proverb) so well. He both put the attention back on why they were all there, i.e. Trump’s impeachment hearings, and made Jim Jordan look utterly stupid. Kudos.

BFTP: Remember this one well. Thanks, TomCat.

I’m quite shocked to see through how much trouble you need to go to get a few stool samples analysed, TomCat. And how much money is involved in it all; you don’t just jump on a bus to drop them off, do you?

  9. Added Friday morning – I do want news of how the impeachment is going, but dammit, I want other news too.  When I have to depend on “The Conversation” to tell me there was another school shooting yesterday because no one else  in my inbox mentions it, that is too much impeachment news.
