Climate activists are holding their annual Climate Change Forum.  This year it’s at Georgetown University.  Democratic candidates for President are keynote speakers.  Also today, students and their supporters all over the world are cutting class to protest for climate change.

MSNBC is hosting a televised climate change forum this week with 12 candidates running for president in 2020. The event is split across September 19 and September 20 and will cap the network’s “Climate in Crisis” series, a week of dedicated programming on climate change. MSNBC hosts Ali Velshi and Chris Hayes will be questioning the contenders and fielding questions from young voters in the audience.

The forum will be held at Georgetown University and is also sponsored by Our Daily Planet and New York magazine. It comes after CNN held an unprecedented seven-hour climate change town hall with 2020 Democratic presidential contenders earlier this month…

…Notably, five prominent Democratic candidates will be absent from the MSNBC forum: former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Kamala Harris, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke…

I think Liz made a big mistake by opting out.

Here is the complete video for Day 1 and Day 2.  Overall, I think it will be about eighteen hours total, and I suggest that you skip around and watch what interests you.

Watch Live: MSNBC’s Climate Forum 2020 (DAY 1) (9 hrs. 6 min.)

I think Bernie Sanders was the star. His segment begins at about 4:00:00.

Watch live: MSNBC’s Climate Forum 2020 (DAY 2)

This is still live and I have not had time to watch it, yet.  On to the protests.

0920Strike

Tens of thousands of high school students concerned about climate change planned to let their feet do the talking Friday in a nationwide walkout of classes to join Global Climate Strike marches.

Organizers said protesters would be turning out in 156 countries from such disparate locations as Nepal, Senegal, Quebec, Rome, Kyrgyzstan, Sweden, Bolivia and Peru…

‘It’s our future that’s at stake’: US students plan to skip school Friday to fight climate ’emergency’ The days of protest are an effort to coordinate different groups for different actions in different countries. Supporters who were backing The Global Climate Strike on Friday planned to join Earth Strike, another worldwide effort, in one week.

The face of the worldwide effort is Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, 16, who came to New York on a solar-powered sailboat to attend the strike in New York City and then the summit.

While Thunberg is not the organizer, she is a major motivating force. She gave the global movement a push starting in August 2018 when she began skipping school on Fridays to stand outside the Swedish parliament holding a sign protesting inaction on climate change…

  1. W/watch MSNBC’s videos later on.
Greta: What a wonderful and inspiring young lady! She has what it takes to bring the message(s) home to everyone, worldwide.
We must leave it better for them (our next generation) and for those who follow.
Great post, I’m still meandering, and passing snippets to friends…
    Thanks, Tom!

  2. I’ll try to participate in at least one Climate Strike event. At least I did spread the word among my activist friends.

  3. Liz may have made a mistake by opting out – but she was in the last debate and was CUT out, as Trae and you pointed out. (Sorry for all the “out”s back to back.) I would think that, without Jay Inslee present, Bernie would be the star. Of course, as to whether anything comes of it, we’ll need to wait and see.

No fourteen-year-old should have to take all the crap that’s being flung at Greta Thunberg. That said, she is handling it so well as to make us all proud, and especially her parents.

Climate change is definitely science, but it is not “rocket science.” You don’t need multiple advanced degrees to understand it. Only the brains God gave you and the common sense to listen, and watch. One’s own two eyes – especially ow that technology allows us to see the entire world in our living rooms – will show it to you.

  4. Greta is a world-wide treasure!!!!!!!

  5. I’m deeply disappointed that Elizabeth Warren has opted out of this all-important debate. It leaves me with the strong impression she has no plan for Climate Change (yet). As an outsider, I’m also interested in her foreign politics but not hearing much on that front either, and both come together if we want to save the planet.

Bernie Sanders, after a weak start returning to his usual talking points, really got to the gist of the problem and looked towards a global, united approach to fight Climate Change at the expense of investing more in weapons of mass destruction.

In Australia, an estimated 300,000 Australians took part in climate change rallies across the nation on Friday, the largest protest action to date, with tens of thousands of children playing hooky to attend. The signs — many made by children — spelled out the fears and frustrations held by many young Australians about perceived inaction on climate change.

    Here are some:

And the Aussie humour is never far away, as the child on her father’s shoulders shows with his sign:

  6. Thanks and weekend Hugs to all! 22

  7. Climate change MUST be addressed without delay!  This article exposes the real tragedy of one woman in the Florida Keys as her home is virtually uninhabitable, and things are only going to get worse for her and millions of people around the world.

So there are economic consequences that will affect millions if not billions of people world wide.  She makes reference to a property buyout through FEMA and state governments — the use of your state and federal tax dollars at work.  But think about who is paying those taxes.  It is not the corporations and the 1%!  They make money hand over fist and don’t want to give up what they believe is their God given right.  Would it not be better to attack the problem directly by addressing climate change than to continue to give money and more influence to an over represented group — corporations and the 1%.

Kudos to those worldwide that want to address climate change for the sake of all generations to come.  If it is not addressed, there will be no future generations, there will be no shining blue planet.  We may not all agree to every detail of the fight, but let’s get going building on what we can agree on.

I have not listened to the entirety of the videos yet, but climate change is not rocket science.  It is everyday science that people like Trump and his Republican Reich, and the likes of Canada’s Maxime Bernier, a candidate for Prime Minister during the upcoming election, can even understand but don’t want to.  A note, Maxime Bernier had the audacity to attack Greta Thunberg on very personal grounds which was and is a very repugnant action.
