There’ll be no “Fun” posted this week as I’m having Out-Patient Surgery this morning for a leg abscess.

On Saturday, July 27th I leaned over while in my desk chair to get something that was clearly out of my reach because the chair tipped over and I landed on the handle of an antique iron.

Before electricity, they used solid iron irons that you had to heat on the stove – and those suckers are heavy.

I developed a giant goose-egg hematoma that became Red, Hot, Swollen & Tender (RHST), so I went to my PCP’s Walk-In clinic on Friday, August 2nd. The Nurse Practitioner put me on Keflex, but since I didn’t see much progress, I went to the Wound Care Clinic this Wednesday.

The Nurse Practitioner (who I saw for my 36 days of antibiotics for my cat-bite cellulitis – and is excellent) confirmed my concern: abscess.

But I was shocked that the Wound Care Clinic does not drain abscesses.

So I had an Ultra-Sound done yesterday to be sure it’s walled off (it is), and will see the general surgeon this morning for a probable Incision & Drainage (I & D).

But I’ll share a cute cat Tweet:

  1. Oh, my goodness !
By your picture(s) it looks awfully painful !
Hope that your I & D goes well without any complications, and that you can get your wound taken care of, good luck! and get plenty of rest! afterwards.

My grandma used, and had a couple of those heavy irons, and I remember her using them, and also for  front/back door stoppers, as there was no air-conditioning back then. What with us running around to & fro back in the day. lol

    Aww….Loved the kitty video.

Take good care, Nameless! and Thanks for posting.

  2. Dang, Nameless!  That’s terrible!  I hope your healing has more effective progress than those puddy tats did. 35

  3. I’ve drained abcesses on cats, but I wouldn’t drain yours either any more than the wound care people.  I hope you heal as fast as my kitties all did after my surgery.

I was wearing a necklace today (on my long drive) with a large (over an inch square) Swarovski crystal with what they call an “Aurora Borealis” finish (“AB” for short.)  The sunlight reflecting off of it was putting so many “red dots” all over the car that I had to tuck it inside my clothes for safety’s sake.

  4. Oh, you poor man. You seem to have no luck with infections, Nameless; that abscess looks horribly painful. I hope the drainage went well, you/they have the infection under control now and that’ll be the end of it soon.

I hope no more prolonged anti-biotics for you either, because your gut may start to join in the mayhem too.

    Thanks for the kitty video.

  5. OMG…So sorry to hear of your fall. It looks awful.
I hope that your visit with the general surgeon today went well and that he was able to drain it and it will begin healing much quicker for you.
Prayers are being sent your way, Nameless.
    Thanks for the cute video.

  6. Dude, that is awful looking and painful.  I have never had an abscess (other than in a wisdom tooth) so I can only imagine the pain.  Please look after yourself.  Lots of TLC!  I will light a candle at church on Sunday for your healing.

Thanks for the kitties video.  That ginger tabby is too funny!  So intent in getting that dot that he went upside down and fell from the wheel.  LMAO!!!

  7. Ugh! I’ve never had an abscess but know people who have gotten them. They are no fun!
That video of the cats chasing the laser dot on the kitty loop is TOO FUNNY! Clearly the orange cat was unscathed after going all the way around. How many cats are in that room, anyway? Is that the home of someone who fosters cats? Must be.

  8. OMFG TC!!!!!

So sorry this has happened, i’ll be thinking of you & sending Love & Light!

  9. I’m just back on-line, late today, after a trip to my grandson’s 9th birthday party out of state, and am sorry to hear of your misfortune.  I hope the operation went well.
