It’s another muggy day here in the tiny old CatBox, but I’m feeling somewhat better, and I should be in the saddle both today and tomorrow.  WWWendy and I go to sign the lease in the shiny new CatBox late tomorrow afternoon, so I will be showering, eating, and getting to bed late.  I may need to take Thursday off to recover.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:56 (average 4:42).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (a blast from the past): Apollo 11 launches, beginning epic journey to the moon

Ah… the memories! RESIST!!

From YouTube (MSNBC Channel): Racist Trump Spectacle Distracts From Other Damaging Trump News

Rachel makes perfect sense. The rabid Republican Sheeple love their Fuhrer’s racist diatribes. At the same time, he angers people, who point others to what they already knew instead of what could inspire more to oppose him, such as the absolute proof that criminal bastard, Julian Assange, worked hand in glove with Russia and the Republican Reich. RESIST!!

From NY Times: The immigration raid early Monday morning at the El Paraiso Apartments in Houston was not exactly a major victory for law enforcement. It was foiled, in part, by 19-year-old Kaylin Garcia.

Shortly before 7 a.m. Monday, Ms. Garcia was sitting in her car near her family’s apartment, in a largely Hispanic section of southwest Houston about 15 miles from downtown. She saw four Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents walk by — one dressed in camouflage fatigues and the others wearing black T-shirts and bulletproof vests. They were knocking on apartment doors. She took a picture of the agents with her phone, posted it to her Facebook page and notified some of her neighbors.

At least one of her neighbors saw Ms. Garcia’s picture and heard about her warnings — the family slid the chain closed on their door. When the agents knocked on the door, the family — an undocumented Honduran man and his wife, along with their American-born children and another relative — kept silent and never opened it. After a minute or two, the agents left.

“I wasn’t scared,” Ms. Garcia said. “I was scared for my neighbors.” She added, “Nobody opened the door.”

The anticipated large-scale ICE raids aimed at rounding up at least 2,000 migrant parents and children appear to have run into similar problems in other parts of the country. With widespread publicity about the raids, many undocumented migrants have been counseled to avoid opening their doors.

Finally! A win for the good guys (gals too)! RESIST!!

  1. YT: How exciting! Talk about a blast from the past!! Gave me goosebumps watching!

Rachel: Watched this, this morning, and she speaks the truth, love how she narrows every subject down while explaining the details. dt is so out of control now, all for getting attention to take away from his scandals. JA was quite busy while living at the embassy, wasn’t he? Oh, what a tangled evil web they weave, but it’s all coming out now, for the public to read and see. Personally, I think dt is very worried about the Epstein charges right now….and trying to deflect from the investigation(s).

NYT: Sad that this is even happening! Kudos to Ms. Garcia for alerting her neighbors and getting the info to her neighbors…we have many unsung heroes in our midst. Keep it up!

    Cartoon: ugh!

Hope all goes well for your signing. I’m excited for you!! Get your rest, take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

*This just in: dt’s misspellings – “This is what happens when you put yourself through your own university.” ~ SA A. ~
    2. “I was typing something about dt being a Racist and it auto-corrected to being a Rapist and was still accurate. ~ Andy Borowitz ~
    3. “Rep. Ilhan Omar has been a US citizen longer than Melania Trump.” ~ Jake Tapper ~

  2. I missed out on the high that this country enjoyed during the Apollo program. If we’d had any gumption, we would have followed up with more exploration and a permanent base by the fin de siecle. It will be a delicious irony if Cheat-oh gets the manned (and woman-ned) lunar exploration ball rolling again. This time, though, it otter be multi-national.

Kaylin Garcia is a genuine hero. Even if she saved only one family from the ICE goons, she still made a difference. I would not be surprised if there were more “Kaylins” out there warning immigrants of the raids. And why did ICE announce them, anyway? Were they that confident they could round up immigrants even if the latter had been warned? Are their leaders a special kind of stupid? Or is there some law that requires them to make their intentions public?

Cartoon: Right-wingers howl about “welfare queens” who breed like alley cats, when the real welfare queens are big businesses that receive more government moolah than they pay in taxes. If welfare, food stamps, etc. were ended tomorrow, the working class wouldn’t notice the difference in their pay stubs; if corporate welfare and all the totally unnecessary tax breaks for the wealthy were ended tomorrow, the working class would appreciate the increase in take-home pay!

    P. Bowen, thanks for Tapper’s observation. That is an important point we all need to make!

  3. Well, 6:04, but I got up to change the radio preset and forgot to stop the timer, so I actually have no idea.

Everyone here knows someone, or knows of someone, that has had to resort to a GoFundMe to cover medical expenses. Now it reaching PP (and Care2, for those of you who are on it. Our own Carrie B has had to put up a GoFundMe for dental care. As if her back issues weren’t bad enough. Medicare/Medicaid does apply to some dental; the amount she is trying to raise is what she cannot get covered. What she needs is all stuff that’s necessary just in order to eat, and the bare minimum to do the job.

Apollo – PBS is revisiting this big time. They are calling it the “Summer of Space.” Almost every show is involved. Antiques Roadshow even put together a show of space-related collectibles exclusively.

Rachel – I’ve noticed too, and said so once or twice. But I haven’t put together such a tight case. That’s tough to do when one is in the middle of it, and doesn’t have the access to original sources that she has. But, you know, even now, there are still going to be people claiming that TCB Julian Assange is “a journalist.” My response to that is, even if he were (which he is not), there is no law of nature which prevents a journalist (or a lawyer, or a judge, or any other professions which requires high ethics) from also being a criminal bastard and misusing his, or her, profession for personal profit. And that is punishable behavior.

NYT – I gather the raids in general were a bust (pun intended.) But that, sadly, doesn’t mean no one got harmed. It only means fewer people got harmed than they wanted to harm. Still, that’s something. Kudos to Ms. Garcia.

Cartoon – And that’s throwing roses at it.

  4. I have to thank Joanne and TC for their assistance in helping me with my dental woes. This is very difficult for me. I do just love that feeling of begging ~ NOT! Thank you to two very good friends! I know the best people!

  5. Good to hear you’re on the mend.  And getting ready to sign the lease sounds great!

The moon landing – like the Kennedy assassinations, Nixon resigns, 9/11 – is one of those “Where Were You When …” moments.

And a ACLU PSA WRT ICE: “You Have Rights!”

  6. Y/T-Apollo: Apparently, I have read, the technology of the day would not have allowed the Moon landing to be faked.
Y/T- MSNBC: It is amazing that the horse pooh that passes through his skull, and out of his mouth does not seem to wake people up to his evil!
NYT: So, just how great have we become?
‘Toon: Of course, why would anyone question this?  I mean it goes to such a small portion of the population, how could it be a problem?  NOT!
TC, Enjoy tomorrow!  Hopefully, all goes well.

  7. 4:12 Any idea what Osteospermum taste like?

YouTube: This was remembered all night on the ABC here. All experts agreed that nobody would take those risks nowadays.

Rachel Maddow: Predictably, thank goodness, Rachel is right on top of why Trump is going all out with his racism towards four female Congress members. This is what she has found now, and I’m sure she’ll come up with more in the coming days, as Trump’s cesspit, which he’s trying to cover so hard, is bottomless.

NYT: The failure of these ICE raids in some areas because of intelligent use of social media must be a mixed blessing for undocumented immigrants. Grateful they’ve escaped capture, but now condemned to live as prisoners in their own houses, afraid of every knock on their door. This reeks so much of Nazi razzias in the 30s-40s I’m getting sick to my stomach.

Cartoon: Of course you do, they’re not called well-to-do for nothing.

I expect you to be very relieved when you’ve got the lease of your new digs signed, TomCat.

  8. YT: One remarkable event.
Rachel: He continues with his ugly disgraceful actions.
NTY: Like he wanted to scare people for no reason what so ever, except to get a thrill our of it. Wish he’d just stop this crap and do what a leader is suppose to do and that is to take care of the people and the country. Not torture them.
Glad you are feeling better. Hope everything goes well with the signing of the lease..

  9. The Apollo 11 vid was unavailable in my country but i remember it well!

  10. Hey how did that old avatar of me get there?? i didn’t do that!!

    • That stunning blond posted with your gmail account and you associated that pic to it om Gravirar.  You have not assigned a Gravatar to your Bigpond account. 29

  11. Puzzle — 5:35  Doing the puzzles aren’t as much fun now that my hands shake so much.  Very pretty flowers though.

CBS — Like AniMae, the video is not available here, but I remember it well.  Armstrong: “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

MSNBC — WH resident Donald J Adolf Trump is a vile racist.  Perhaps he should “return to his country” but I am sure that Angela Merkel would be pleased . . . NOT!  Rachel is correct . . . this is all distraction from other damning matters.

NY Times — AMEN Ms Garcia!!!

    Cartoon — Ain’t that the truth . . . unfortunately!

  12. 04  I think it’s a good thing we have Nancy Pelosi to speak up  with all the Hate coming from Trump or we would have more of this fighting in the streets, what could it turn into??? and our President Causing itand his friends protecting him??
McConnell had to say what he did for the answer being he was married to Chow  glad he had the ~~ to speak. Since he has protected Trump with Little Lindsey! All should be held accountable! They work for us.
Now what will happen to the people at the border will they be held forever there??No way to treat these people!
    Especially kids
    Thank you TomCat
