It’s a busy day here in the CatBox.  I will be scarce next week, because I’m going to Madrona Studios with Anne from CCC for a look-see on Tuesday and going back to sign the lease on Thursday.  My fingers, toes, and even my kitty dingles are all crossed.  Tomorrow is a WWWendy Day.  I’ll stay in the saddle, if I can.  If not, I’ll post a Personal Update.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:18 (average 5:19).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Jesse Dollemore Channel): The Key to Defeating Donald Trump in 2020 Can be Found in These THREE STATES!

I agree, Jesse, with the caveat that all 50 states are critically important. Because SCROTUS (Republican anti-Constitutional VD) mandated Gerrymandering, whoever wins the state legislatures, controls most of the nation for the next decade. RESIST!!

From YouTube (a blast from the past): Country Joe McDonald – I-Feel-Like-I’m-Fixin’-To-Die Rag

I was there. I was singing. Ah! The Memories! RESIST!!

From Alternet: …Calling the administration’s court filing “an act of political chutzpah,” elections law expert Rick Hasen perfectly encapsulates what just happened:

In a new filing, the Department of Justice has told the federal district court in Maryland considering whether the addition of the citizenship question on the census was done for reasons of racial animus that the government may still come forward with a reason for including the question. Further, the government argues that any new reason would have to be judged by its own terms, as the courts did in the travel ban case. It wants to stop all discovery of bad motives for the original decision as no longer relevant.

Hasen adds, “more importantly, DOJ is arguing for what Joshua Matz has termed “animus cleansing.” Forget if we had discriminatory racial intent before in adding a question, DOJ argues, because any new decision would be fresh and pure. And because of this purity, there’s no need to look whether the government had discriminatory intent to start with.

This judge won’t buy it, but will Roberts? RESIST!!

  1. 7:23 Puny little salad.

Other JD – I agree with you that all states are important. It’s only due to the Electoral College that anyone thinks anything else. I suppose Jesse knows that Amy Klobuchar is from Michigan.

AlterNet – Now that the Hofeller documents are out in the open, they can come up with all the new “reasons” they like, but that stain is not going to go away. In other days I would confidently have added “And the court will see that.” Now – it’s hard to be sure. But this is definitely a time to push the Hofeller documents ads hard as possible to shame Roberts as much as possible.

    Cartoon – Ya think?

  2. Focusing too much on battleground states could lose more states than the strategy gains, so be careful. We progressives need to get organized in EVERY state – and to focus on local and state elections as well as national ones. We cannot afford four more years of tRump’s incompetent “leadership,” nor the GOP-dominated Senate’s blocking every reasonable measure.

  3. Other JD: Good video w/a great message. Get out there, donate, and help our party. Vote BLUE !!

    YT: Great song!

AN: Gee, if Captain Obvious (dt) doesn’t like something, he’ll make it go away, or do/say anything that he wants…and fixes it to his liking. ugh!!

    Cartoon: Word.

Hi, Wendy! WooHoo! I’m excited for you, and hope that all goes well for you transferring to your new digs! imho, do what you have to do, and get ‘er done, we’ll be here when you post (or not). Enjoy your day, take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

This just in: “Give us back the WIFI password.” “Not until you yield the War.” ~ Abe Lincoln ~

  4. Dollemore: I’ll have to come back, there was an error.
Country Joe: I was there, too.
Alternet: Yeah, PURITY, that’s what they want…a pure white race, which is a total fantasy, but when has that ever been an obstacle for the GOPIGGIES!
    ‘Toon: Nailed it!

    • I wonder if we we ever met.  We hung at the same places and times, like Woodstock and the opening of Fillmore East. 08

  5. Dollemore: Point on!  Had Hillary, and her team, listened to Bill Clinton, and visited the rust belt, Dumpy would just have been a tweet in the dark!

  6. JD: I too agree with Jesse that all states are important. We need to be fighting and pushing strong to get one our democrats into office. tRump needs to leave. Our country doesn’t need anymore torture.
YT: Remember the song very well. Thanks for the memory.
Alternet: Makes me sick that the bas*ard tRump can’t take what the court says, without doing his no good spin on screwing around with it even more.
    Cartoon: Yep.
Praying that everything goes well for you this coming Tuesday. Hope you have a nice visit with Wendy tomorrow.

  7. Other JD: It really shouldn’t be up to very heavily gerrymandered states who becomes the next president, it should be the popular vote that should be decisive for “the president of all people”, but Democrats have known that for a long time. Would they have the guts to alter the system if they get the majority in 2020?

Alternet: Do those 💩💩 even know how to spell “purity”? Sigh. I don’t think Roberts will know how to spell it either.

Keeping everything I can cross in that position, in the hope you finally get the apartment you want, TomCat.

    • Lona, it’s much more complicated.  To abolish the electoral college requires a Constitutional Amendment, which must be ratified by the 3/4 of the state legislatures.  Most of those states receive an unfair advantage from the electoral college.  We have a much better shot at a work-around like NPV. 13

  8. Thanks and Hugs to all. 17
