I’m running way behind, because of trying to find a way to talk to a human at USPS.  I get my packages delivered to Wendy, because I can’t get them here, and they clearly went to the wrong place, because they say they “could not get access to the building” Saturday, but someone was home all day, and no attempted delivery slip was left at the door.  The USPS website recognizes my tracking number, but the customer service number does not and will allow me to proceed no further.  ARGH!  Oh God, it’s USPS Monday!

Today’s took me 2:52 (average 4:42).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

From YouTube (a blast from the past): Teach Your Children

Ah… the memories! RESIST!!

From Washington Post: On the campaign trail, Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Ind., largely faced a warm reception as he emerged from relative obscurity to become a promising Democratic presidential contender. But when he addressed a majority-black audience on Sunday afternoon in South Bend, things were markedly different.

This time, Buttigieg wasn’t speaking as a candidate but as the mayor of a city where emotions have run high since a white police officer shot a black man last week and failed to capture the fatal confrontation with his body camera. The town hall meeting, which Buttigieg convened to respond to the rising tensions, descended into chaos as community members shouted their anger and frustration. At times, the mayor struggled to speak amid the interruptions, and he was repeatedly heckled and booed.

“We don’t trust you!” yelled one audience member. “Liar!” yelled another.

This is a disaster for Mayor Pete, a candidate, who ran an excellent campaign, until now. South Bend PD has a long history of Racism. Mayor Pete fired South Bend’s first and only black Police Chief for recording officers making racist remarks. The officer who killed the unarmed black man has had multiple complaints of using excessive force against blacks. I fear Mayor Pete’s failure to clean up the Republican PD in his own back yard first will spell the end for him. RESIST!!

From Alternet: Children in immigrant detention centers are reportedly going without basic supplies like soap and toothbrushes but Vice President Mike Pence insisted on Sunday that it’s the fault of Congress.

During an interview on CNN, host Jake Tapper asked the vice president to “talk about the kids” who have been detained for crossing the border.

“Last week, legal advocates reported there are horrific conditions for children at the border,” Tapper said, pointing to reports that say children have gone without soap, toothbrushes and other items needed for basic hygiene.

“The administration was actually arguing in court this week that the administration should not be required to give soap or toothbrushes or showers to children detained at the border,” Tapper added. “Aren’t toothbrushes and blankets and medicine and basic conditions for kids, aren’t they a part of how the United States of America — the Trump administration — treats children?”

“Well, of course they are, Jake,” Pence replied with a shake of his head. “It’s one of the reasons we ask for more bed space.”

The vice president, who is an evangelical Christian, argued that the Trump administration will not give soap to detained immigrant children because of Congress.

This article is incorrect. Pence is NOT a Christian. He is a Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christian, the exact opposite of a real Christian. No authentic Christian could defend such Republican crimes.  RESIST!!

  1. 4:52 So essentially it’s designer nightshade (or designer belladonna.) Don’t nom it.

I assume the number you are using for USPS is 1-800-275-8777? Here’s a web address you can use to send an email. You’re correct that it is impossible to locate any phone number for a local PO unless a kindly postman who works out of that office gives it to you (and if any ever does, hang on to it for dear life because you won’t get another chance.) but that’s because they wouldn’t gt anything done if random people were calling them all day. I know you would never waste their time, nor would I, but not everyone is like us. A note in outgoing mail addressed to “Postmaster” and just your Zip Code (or in this case Wendy’s Zip Code) has a chance of getting a response. Getting the sender involved may also help. None of these suggestions will resolve anything instantly, of course. Good luck.

Boy – Those folks who set up the Mueller Book Club are really going all out to get everyone to participate. At this evening’s session (8:30 EDT, with the special beginning at 9 EDT) they will be streaming a live play based on the report, including appearances by Annette Bening, Kevin Kline, John Lithgow, Frederick Weller, Ben Mckenzie, Michael Shannon, Noah Emmerich, Justin Long, Jason Alexander, Gina Gershon, Wilson Cruz, Joel Grey, Alyssa Milano, Kyra Sedgwick, Alfre Woodard, Piper Perabo, Zachary Quinto, and Aidan Quinn, with additional participation by Sigourney Weaver, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Mark Hamill and more. If you can’t get past the registration limits, you can watch it on Facebook (and I don’t think you have to belong). If it’s like the previous sessions, you should be able to watch after the fact on YouTube (link to the previous session, #6). In other news, not the same people but they have posted it, a graphic novel of the report will be coming out in about April 2020 (that’s probably as fast as they can do it, but it also sounds like pretty good timing.)

YouTube – Good advice then, good advice now – and about equally likely to be heeded by those who need it now as it was then.

WaPo – Yes, I saw this, and yes, it is a disaster for him. And such an unnecessary disaster. Straight white men are not the only people who have some kind of privilege which can blind them to the needs of others. Privilege can happen to anyone (which, I suppose, is why Republicans think “Identity politics” is so horrible – because if Dems ton’t pay attention to our own privilege, we can easily destroy ourselves without any action from them.)

AlterNet – The fault of Congress? Hell, I can demolish that without knowing any details. Congress’s function is to pass laws. The Trump regime policy is to ignore the law. QED.

    Cartoon – Ah, yes.

  2. Sorry you’re having trouble with USPS. I have had problems myself with the service on occasion, but they always got resolved positively.

Children in detention not receiving basic hygiene supplies? ABSO-F###ING-LUTELY UNACCEPTABLE! When the bleep did I wake up in Germany between 1933 and 1945?

    • Thanks, JD.  I went to the web address, but before I could collect all the inod they needed for their damn form, they had already delivered it. 15

      • I did see you got your package – so glad you did!  I don’t know whether Informed Delivery is available to you (I would think in a city that size it would be), but I don’t know whether it would be possible to set it up for letters to one address and packages to another.  A pity if not, because it has been a real help to me in tracking packages.  I just received a package myself yesterday which was a re-shipment for a package which had been assigned a tracking number but which USPS never got.  Because I had been following it in Informed Delivery, I didn’t have to spend any time looking it up to explain to the shipper, and they re-shipped without question (and it was meds too; CBD gummies).  Maybe Informed Delivery is something for down the road.

  3. YT: Great song. I have learned much from my children too.

WP: I like Pete, but this disaster is not going to go away. Losing the trust of your local folks does not bode well for him either.

AN: Such a horror for these little ones. This is unacceptable, the children shouldn’t even be in a camp!, but to be with their loved ones/parents!

    Cartoon: Oh. But of course!

Gee, now that’s a Monday bummer for sure. I sure hope that you get your USPS packages, in a timely manner. Hope that you have a good rest of your day/evening, take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

*This just in: re: detention camps: “Let’s call them ‘Trump’s Camps’. Attach his name, and make him own this. His name/brand is the only thing he cares about. ~Danny A. ~
“This will be one of his sullied legacies.” pb

  4. Y/T: Some beautiful music, and some good advise.
    WaPo: Ouch!
AlterNet: Pence avoided the actual question with the same lack of caring one seems to find in any Pseudo-Chritian.
‘Toon: Given the advances in genetics, and cloning, we might just expect the GOPIGGIES to try to resurrect him, and run him for office!

  5. YT: Great song. CSNY always had good messages within their songs.
WaPo” Seem it on the news last night. It did get nasty.
Alternet: Despicable what these kids are being put through.Totally unacceptable.
Sorry to hear about the problems you’re having with the Postal Service. Hope you are able to get through to to Postal Service and are able to locate your package.

  6. Thanks and Hugs to all! 09

  7. Puzzle — 4:36  Am I hallucinating?  Another time under the average albeit barely!

WaPo — This is definitely a disaster for Buttigieg.  Without trust in his own backyard, he will be toast nationally.  A shame that this happened.  I guess the true test of leadership for Buttigieg will be how he progresses from here, how he chooses to deal with this enormous setback.

AlterNet — As you said Puddy Tat, Pence is no true Christian.  If he was, he would not engage in such heinous actions such as denying children the necessities of life, and toothbrushes, soap etc are necessities because without them and other basic services, disease breeds.  He would not have such anti LGBTQ beliefs.  Pence is a disgusting individual wrapped up to look good.  But shiny wrapping is deceiving.  As Pat noted: ““Let’s call them ‘Trump’s Camps’. Attach his name, and make him own this. His name/brand is the only thing he cares about.””  And that goes for Pence too!

    Cartoon — Yup!
