I’m still sick as a dawg and am going back to bed.

Short Takes:

That was 49 years ago today.  I fear that the National Guard would still murder US citizens, if ordered again by Republicans to do so.  I have no doubt that today’s Republicans would give that order without hesitation to stay in power.  RESIST!!

  1. YT: I was deeply saddened by these events, and of the protests against the war, leading to deaths of good people, all the way around. Back then, I was still learning my job in the military, and felt conflicted at what was going on in my country. Sad for us all, and to remember this day.

Cartoon: Tumultuous times for those folks protesting, and risking their lives. I remember my dad talking to us about this event, at the dinner table.

Sorry to hear that you are still feeling ill. Are you going to the dr’s? Hope that you get plenty of rest, drinking fluids, and taking it easy. Take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

  2. 5:56 I thought I was feeling dazed and confused … but apparently not much more than average.

Ohio – It’s long been debated whether it is better to work on making change from the outside or from the inside. Both work, but differently. In my military career I was attempting the latter. I did succeed in making some change, but more of the nature of social change than policy change. Staying longer would not have been productive … so I didn’t. As far as the possibility of another Kent State – the current regime is MORE disposed than that one to order shooting … and the current National Guard members are MORE disposed than those at the time to obey such corrupt orders. It wouldn’t take much for there to be a repeat.

Cartoon – Yes. Nowadays one doesn’t need to ride in order to oppose racism. Wherever you are in the US, there is racism there.

Do feel better fast.  I’ve pulled something in my right knee and something else in my right side near the diaphragm myself, so I am whining a lot here.  But it only hurts when I move, at least.

  3. Ohio – Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
Love that track!!! 49 yrs ago? WOW i feel old!

Hope you feel better soon TC! 🤒 💐

  4. Four dead in O-hi-o. One great and inexcusable tragedy. Never, NEVER think that similar can’t happen again, or that it won’t be worse.

Ignore the Borg. Resistance is NOT futile!

  5. It is not good that you are still feeling poorly!  Cut it out!
Four dead in O-hi-o.  Tragic!  I was listening to some old Phil Ochs, and Pete Seeger, earlier today, Woodie Guthrie, too.  Not to take anything away from MLK, but this is also “A dream deferred!”
‘Toon: We need a new generation of such activists!
    Joanne, I love your ‘toon!

  6. 3:39 Under threat enough as it is, I had to save this bee from you, TomCat. You can have its honey, though; it’s very good for you.

Four dead in Ohio. Yes, I’m afraid it could happen again. With nothing more than “our thoughts and prayers” offered at random shootings at schools and universities, Republicans and their demented leader won’t hesitate to call another emergency, and have the military shoot on innocent protesters. Of course no such thing will happen when the alt-right “protests” in support of Republican “values”.

Good healing, as the Germans say, to all those who are sick or injured.

  7. YouTube: WOW!  That was back when I still had my hearing!

Boy, the picture of the Freedom Riders in that bus makes me feel really, REALLY old!

(Then again, I am “really, REALLY old!”)

  8. I remember the awful tragic event. I remember the tune “Ohio”. Crosby Stills and Nash was one of my favorite groups.
Sorry that you’re still not feeling better. Praying that you do improve real soon.

  9. Thanks ans sick hugs. 23
