Charging into Impeachment

Fuhrer Drumpfenfarten should consider himself very fortunate that Nancy Pelosi is an institutionalist from yesteryear.  She wants to proceed with congressional oversight slowly and deliberately, in spite of the many like me who disagree.  With even a fair modicum of the cooperation the law requires, Trump could run out the clock.  My the time they got around to impeaching him, they would be too busy running for reelection.  But the Fuhrer is so narcissistic that he’s charging into impeachment.

President Trump on Tuesday said he doesn’t want current and former White House aides to testify in front of Congress following the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report.

In an exclusive interview with The Washington Post, Trump said complying with further investigations was not necessary after the White House cooperated with Mueller’s investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible obstruction of justice by Trump.

“There is no reason to go any further, and especially in Congress where it’s very partisan — obviously very partisan,” Trump said.

The comments come amid reports that the White House is preparing to go to legislative war with several House committees as they continue their sprawling probes into the Trump administration.

White House officials are reportedly planning to exert executive privilege after the House Judiciary Committee filed a subpoena for testimony and documents from former White House counsel Don McGahn, who was known to have a contentious relationship with Trump and played a starring role in Mueller’s report…

The Fuhrer has ordered current and former staff not to provide documents answer questions.  This is  another incidence of Obstruction of Justice, so blatant that no self-respecting majority can accede to it.

Lawrence O’Donnell explains why.

I agree.  This is too far beyond the pale.

  1. Someone said, yesterday or this morning,

  2. LO’D: Ordering McGahn and Mulvaney not to appear before the committee is outrageous. He (dt) is guilty, imo, of obstruction of justice for even thinking of doing this, and defying the subpoenas. A lawless potus.
He’s going down, and deep down in the recesses of his cerebrum, he knows it’s coming, as we do. After the investigations, go for the next best thing.
    Impeachment.

  3. Impeaching Cheat-oh is all fine and dandy, but what Democrats really need to focus on is WINNING IN 2020. That is more important than anything. Impeachment is no guarantee that the Orange Ogre will be booted out of the Oval Office, especially while Rethuglicans control the Senate. Remember that Bill Clinton was impeached, but he survived politically. We need to be careful lest we focus too much effort on a strategy that may not work, while siphoning action and money away from where Democrats need to be concentrating their efforts.

    • I put my two cents in before I had read your comment, Freya, but obviously I very much agree with your opinion and repeated some of what you had already said.

    • I agree, but I think they can walk and chew gum at the same time.07

      • One of the things for which we (rightly) criticize Republicans is spending too much time and energy on staying in power and not enough on doing what is right (or even what they think is right, which is usually right only in the directional sense.)  I believe any time spent by us on doing what is right (as opposed to wrong) will in the end pay dividends at the polls.  (But that’s not why we ought to do it.)

  4. Lawrence: “But because of pressure of Democratic  and, very importantly, principled Republican members of the Committee, President Nixon surrendered under that pressure…” There you have it, the crux of the whole situation now. There are no principled Republicans members in the committees, the Republicans have tried to block the truth from coming out by every means possible. And now they won’t stop Drumpf from fighting the subpoenas through all the possible tiers of court and they certainly are not going to impeach him.

Republicans are most likely counting on Democrats spending too much time on fighting the fight they are compelled to take on for the sake of democracy and as a result will not have enough time to spend on the election, while Drumpf, with no original thought or strategy in his head, has been using first the Mueller investigation, now the committees’ investigations and soon the impeachment investigations in his campaign – he never stopped campaigning, did he – to hold his followers tied to him. Set a course for impeachment, by all means, but don’t fall in the GOP trap and forget to prevent the GOP/Drumpf from doing more harm or focus less about winning the next election ON ALL FRONTS.

  5. Maybe it’s because I’m 71 y/o and have been through similar battles over the years – but my money is on Speaker Pelosi to do the wise thing!

  6. IMPEACHMENT….has a wonderful sound to it right now. Pray it happens soon.
Really blows me away today hearing the way tRump is throwing all sorts of threats.
I already know that he is brainless, but the ones he depends on for directions, must be off on vacation, otherwise I don’t understand why he isn’t getting the message that his time is coming to an END.
He has done nothing positive for our country ever since he stepped into the W.H.I
do pray that we do get a candidate that can bring our country back to a a sane country. One that is for the people.

  7. “Rope a dope!” — LMAO!!!

Trump has absolutely no understanding of the constitution, SCOTUS’ role nor of the Congress.  He fails to understand the separation of powers thinking that he is the emperor with the ultimate authority.  I can’t wait to see this megalomaniac come crashing down.  Humpty Trumpty will fall off his great wall and be broken to pieces so that no one can put him back together again.

If there was a guarantee that there would be a blue tidal wave to wash out all Republicans from the Congress and WH, I’d say don’t impeach.  But no such guarantee exists and won’t ever exist so impeachment investigations should start.  And although Humpty thinks the Mueller report clears him, it does not.  Plus there are other threads to pursue that Mueller did not follow up on completely.  Congressional committees have a constitutional duty but of course Humpty does not recognise that.  Would Humpty have such a hissy fit over the testimony of staff and ex-staff and the possibility of impeachment if he understood that a guilty verdict in the Senate would be needed — Republicans control the Senate?

Humpty Trumpty is out of control, and as the NBC commentator said, he is blinded by his rage.

  8. Thanks and tired hugs to all. 16
