A Not So Fun Friday

ADDENDUM

I found two sites that have transcripts of Waleed Aly’s commentary:

Australian Muslim TV host Waleed Aly presents striking response to Christchurch terrorist attacks

(Hope just URL links work – otherwise, Copy/Paste I guess)

For at least two reasons, it seems inappropriate to post a “Friday Fun” after the massacre of 49 of our brothers and sisters in New Zealand by a crazed white supremacist.

Many moving words will be spoken (but certainly not by Twitler, who is totally tone deaf and lacking in any empathy), but I found these by a Muslim to be worth sharing.  (And it’s one of those rare Tweets that comes w/ CC.)

And on a personal level, I finally got an appointment to deal with an abscess of the deepest fang-bite from the little critter.

Today is Day 27 of antibiotics, and I started last week asking to be seen by the Wound Clinic.  But all I got was an extension of my Augmentin.  So I tried again this week, but learned my PCP is out of town.

So I saw a Nurse Practitioner from the clinic this morning and she started draining the abscess, which she cultured.  (Draining an abscess is something I would not sign up for as a Camp Activity.)  And I had blood drawn and an X-ray of my hand.

Then she had her nurse give me a shot of Ceftriaxone … in my bottom.  (I asked her if she got Hazard Pay or a Bonus for that task.)  I don’t EVER remember getting an antibiotic shot my entire life.

And now I’m on Clindamycin.

But I got an appointment w/ the Wound Clinic this Monday.  So I’m hopeful things will start turning around.

ADDENDUM

Lona mentions in her Comment that the right-wing author of comment in the Tweet is Australia’s Senator Anning  – he got egged for his hate-mongering.  Not condoning it, but the egger got roughed up pretty bad by Anning’s goons.

  1. Cross posted to Care2 HERE

    • Nameless, this must have been hard to write. It’s hard to read – as it should be. Waleed is not shocked, and I am not either – but I am, as he is, deeply moved. And he is right. And our hands here in the US are not clean.

And as sorry as I am that it was needed, I am VERY glad you were seen and got (additional and new) antibiotics. I have drained abcesses on cats, and I agree, it is not a Camp Activity by any means, neither for the drainer nor the drainee. The X-ray and the blood draw sound like excellent ideas. If there is anything to find (which I dearly hope there ISN’T), those will find it.

      Please take care of yourself.

      • Disappointed that the CBC & X-ray results from Monday aren’t posted on my Portal yet.  But I suspect nothing gets displayed until reviewed by a healthcare person – which makes perfect sense.  (At least for lay people)

I’m feeling fine, and while I had hoped to be seen by the Wound Care Clinic on Friday, I’m actually happier it won’t happen until Monday.  Adds a little time to see how the wound has progressed & what the Lab, X-ray & Culture show.

        A door shuts – a window opens.

    • Almost forgot:

Groundswell effort to send message of solidarity to Muslims in Christchurch, New Zealand
WaPo: New Zealand mosque attacker issued manifesto citing U.S. right-wing extremism as inspiration, police say. Death toll rises to 49.

  2. BRAVO Waleed Aly from our brilliant Aussie show ‘The Project’!You actually beat me to posting it!

SoINeedAName have you ever tried ‘Colloidal Silver’?

  3. Excellent post, Nameless, even though it was so shameful for us Aussies. The sickening phrases Walleed Aly quotes come from a lone racist senator called Anning, denounced by all parties and as Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison today announced, the Coalition and Labor would pass a motion when Parliament returns next month, censuring Senator Anning for the statement he issued yesterday that linked the Christchurch mosque attacks to immigration.
Today Anning was egged by a 17-year old when he spoke to the media after giving a speech at a political meeting. Anning first slapped the youth in the face and when he didn’t stop filming it, punched him in the face. I’m glad to let you know that: ‘A fundraising page has already been set up to collect donations to cover the teenager’s legal fees and to buy “more eggs”.’ ABC News

So sorry Nike thought it necessary to have a co-sufferer when he was so ill, overdoing it a tad, and have you now suffering lots more and lots longer than he ever did. I hope all those antibiotics pay off and heal that nasty bite quickly and without further lingering effects.

  4. Kudos to Nameless and Walleed. 04

Nameless, on behalf of cats everywhere, I apologize for what happened to your hand and your ass. 😿

On Anning, great minds fall in the same ditch.

  5. Well, I could not comment in response to Joanne, but can do so here:
How sad!  I’m sure our Orange nut-case’s imbecility helped to fuel the shooter’s action.  Kudos to the kid hat egged the imbecilic parliamentarian!

    • There is no doubt Mitch!  The shooter specifically wrote that the Orange Ogre inspires him — it might even have been in the manifesto which he posted online.  The Orange Ogre is a menace to humanity!

    • Mitch –

WRT posting replies to a Comment – it is a bit confusing.

Apparently an “upgrade” to WordPress caused a glitch – but there is a workaround.

[1] If you want to reply to a specific Comment, do NOT hit the “Reply” button OR “Submit” button – at least not yet

[2] Type your Reply in the usual Comment box at the bottom – just like posting a regular Comment

[3] When done – THEN hit the Reply button in the Comment you want to reply to – AND THEN the “Submit” button

      • During this process, before you hit the “submit” button, the comment seems to have disappeared.  Take the leap of faith and hit “Submit” anyway.  It gets easier after you’ve done it a few times.

  6. I was shocked to hear the terrifying breaking news yesterday of the attacks on the two Mosques. Hearing them speak all about the hateful bas*ard made me sick. May he rot in he*l for his evilness.
My condolences go to all the families and others affected by this disaster.
I signed the pledge Animae posted.
Sorry to read about the bite wound that got infected. Pray that the new antibiotics work out now that the poisons have been drained out of it.

  7. I would like to transcribe Waleed Aly’s remarks because they are to me so profound and I would like to keep them before me.  He demonstrates courage and resolve.

“…slaughter by appointment and scary because I’m going to continue to keep that appointment …”

“… we are one community …”

As to the young fellow who egged the Aussie senator, right on!

On your other matter, I can certainly relate to your bite and your subsequent suffering.  At about 300 hours one night a few years ago, I stepped on Primo when I got out of bed.  Of course he defended himself and bit my leg just above my ankle — 4 punctures.  The subsequent infection started up my leg very quickly and I ended up having intravenous antibiotics for 10 days.  According to the ER doctor, about 80% of cat bites become infected, while only 20% of dog bites become infected.  He advised me to get rid of the cat and get a dog.  That is one piece of advice I obviously did not heed.

Please take care of yourself.  I am so sorry that this happened, but I hope you and Nike are on good terms now.
