It’s a chilly day here in the CatBox.  When we upgraded to WordPress 5.1 it was partially incompatible with our comment editor.  I tried to fix it by deactivating and reactivating it, after which the plugin would not even load.  So I reverted to our old CKEditor, which I had uninstalled.  The compatibility issues with that editor appear to have been fixed.  Let me know if there are problems.  Tomorrow is a WWWendy day, and we will be very busy.  So please expect no more than a Personal Update with no links messages on Care2.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:45 (average 5:47).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Media Matters Channel): For years, right-wing figures have warned about “civil war”

Barf Bag Alert!!

This means that, if the Republican Reich cannot stay in power through election theft, they want to take power violently. This is how they use fear to brainwash their sheeple to be violent. RESIST!!

From Alternet: It’s one thing to oppose the grandiose “Green New Deal” as gratuitously imprecise or for its full-throated attack on all-things-ozone and carbon release in our global community.

It feels like something totally other to oppose narrow regulations that could advance the campaign to swap out incandescent light bulbs for light-emitting diode (LED) lighting, a small, practical step that, multiplied into the millions, would passively remove a healthy chunk of energy-eating pollution over time.

Actually, I was surprised to see a recent editorial about all this in The Washington Post,  which argued that “Of all the counterproductive policy campaigns conservatives have waged in recent years, among the most irrational has been their war on the federal government’s efforts to update the light bulb.”

The use of the word light is enough to stampede the Republican Reich. They prefer darkness to cover their crimes. RESIST!!

From NY Times: The Trump administration announced on Friday that it will bar organizations that provide abortion referrals from receiving federal family planning money, a step that could strip millions of dollars from Planned Parenthood and direct it toward religiously-based, anti-abortion groups.

The new federal rule is almost certain to be challenged in court. Clinics will be able to talk to patients about abortion, but not where they can get one. And clinics will no longer have to counsel women on all reproductive options, including abortion, a change that will make anti-abortion providers eligible for funding

Not only is this a violation of women’s right to choose, but also, the provision that funds faith-based “providers” violates the Establishment Clause. RESIST!!

  1. 5:04  Most of the aster family flowers are edible.  A yellow salad?

Excellent news for everyone who loathes the New England Patriots.

And another piece of good news, which warms my heart.

Civil War – The 1861-1865 Civil War was started and lost by Whiny Bags, their-way-or-the-highway traitors, wanting to ignore the rule of law, the Constitution, and every blessed one of their fellow Americans.  Yeah, they're probably stupid enough to try it again.

AlterNet (also IIRC Raw Story and Salon, and maybe Crooks and Liars) – They had better not try to take away my LED light bulbs or I will explode.  However, rolling back regulations will only help if the hand of the free market doesn't favor LED – which I believe it does – I know it does for me.

NYT – Oh, yeah.  Courts, here we come.

Cartoon – And Republicans have been trying to get around it ever since, and are still trying today.  Even as we speak.

  2. BBA: Sickening, they feed to the media, and to their population, to incite violence. Seems they embrace this kind of thinking, what ever happened to speaking civilly  to others?? rather than spew hate??

AN: I agree, Joanne, they better not take my LED bulbs, that's all we have in our house!

Joanne: It warmed my heart reading your note about the Navajo Code Talkers Museum and Veterans Center on Navajo land. BRAVO ! Several years ago, I had an opportunity to speak with an honored and respected Navajo Code Talker at the annual Pow-Wow up the road here in Austin. It was a moment and experience that I will never forget.

NYT: This is not right….and so very sad for those in need, or who make the decision of one. Especially here in red texas.

*This just in: "If Nick Sandman can sue the WaPo because they hurt his feelings, then David Hogg should sue every single right wing outlet and conservative commentator that called him a 'Crisis Actor'. ~ Anon ~
    2. Re: dt – "Fk this sheet. I'm moving, and going to Narnia." ~ Polly P. ~

  3. MMC: Two sick bozos, who know how to feed idiocy!

Alternet: What, someone wants "rational?"  In that case stay away from the conservatives.  Folks who will resist this kind of change are like those who said, before 1903, "If God wanted man to fly, He would have given us wings!"  These folks give Luddites a bad name!  Or, they are playing the "slippery slope" game, and resisting the slightest movement towards environmental sensibility.

NYT: Probably the influence of Super Christain Superhero Pence…or just kissing up to the imbeciles in the Evangelical movement.  RESIST!!!!!!!!!!

'Toon: No poll tax, good.  But what about an intelligence test?  It might be time for that.

    • Tempting as the thought of an intelligence test might be, I know too much about how standardized tests are made to think it would work for anyone but white supremacists,  Also, I think it's ethics and morals which should really be tested.  Too many smart evil people around.

  4. The right-wingers aren't fooling anybody. They want a war – so they can bust liberal heads. Be careful what you wish for, dopes. I've head talk about California seceding before, but dismissed it as the pipe dream of the lunatic fringe (did I mix my metaphors too badly there?)

Yeah, I heard about Robert Kraft. Let's hope this brings bad karma on the Pats so they don't even taste the Super Bowl – at least until the numbers start with XC.

People who oppose the Green New Deal do so out of ignorance – or the jingle-jingle of Big Fossil Fuel's filthy lucre.

The Tangerine Traitor is going to pay DEARLY for his vicious assault on women. I recommend making as generous a donation as you can to Planned Parenthood – in tRump's name.

  5. They just love saying, CIVIL WAR!! They should be arrested for inciting violence, can that happen in the US??

Damn extreme, irrational wingnut, yahoos!! ?

  6. As things tend to happen, I got swamped w/ issues  requireing attention.

(Didn't think "The cat ate my post" would fly – so I'n going the honest route.)

The cat ate my post …

Seriously – I fully intend (hope) to post a "Sunday's Smiles" tomorrow in lieu of the "Saturday's Smiles" I hoped to post.

    (Hey – Saturday & Sunday both begin w/ "S" and end w/ "y" … can't be THAT big of a difference!)

  7. BBA: Shameful that they have to play and be dirty with their evilness. People don't want to see or hear it and these fools will learn that it's not the smart way to be.
NYT: Shame on tRump and his cronies…..they are all so heartless who cares less about women rights.

  8. Media Matters — Didn't they learn the first time?  Obviously not!  The issues may appear unrelated, but I don't think they are — it's all about power.  The alt right wants everything their own way — their way or the highway — where as progressives are looking forward for the benefit of the people and the planet.  Lunatics like Hannity, Jones etc are a danger to the American people by inciting violence.  I believe it was the Clerk of the Privy Council here in Canada that recently lamented the incitment of violence by a Conservative senator who called for running over all liberals.  The Clerk has concerns of assassinations here in "polite" Canada and I would say that that could happen.  Some of it is influenced by Trump I am sure — if you don't get what you want then use violence.

AlterNet — Seems the Washington Post has the correct idea: "Democracy dies in the darkness."  Republicans love the darkness!

NY Times — This is a rather pregnant thought that Trump should have aborted!  Too bad his mother did not have the common decency to abort the foetus that became the Resident!  Trump has no respect for the rule of law.  He is just pandering to the pseudo Christian right, trying to buy their vote for 2020.

Cartoon —  Republicans will never stop trying to get their requirement for voter ID.  That, gerrymandering, and election fraud in various disguises are the only way they can steal an election.

    Resist, Persist, Remove!!!

    Lock HIM up!!!

    Silence is Consent!!!

Sorry I have not been around all week.  My internet was switched over to fiber optics by Telus on Monday and I have not been able to access anything online since.  As I type, I am standing at the washing machine in the basement near the wifi connection using my new lap top which I just picked up today.  I will see tomorrow if the signal will go to the main floor.  It has been an especially busy week, particularly Wednesday.  Next week will be busy too.  And of course there is also the snow, rain and cold.

  9. Thanks and hugs! smiley
