From Huffington Post: Washington state’s Supreme Court has ruled that the death penalty is unconstitutional and converted to life in prison all pending death sentences in the state.
The court’s decision on Thursday was unanimous, with the justices determining that capital punishment is applied “in an arbitrary and racially biased manner.”
“The use of the death penalty is unequally applied — sometimes by where the crime took place, or the county of residence… or the race of the defendant,” the court said in its opinion. “The death penalty, as administered in our state, fails to serve any legitimate penological goal; thus, it violates article I, section 14 of our state constitution.”
With the ruling, 20 states have either abolished or overturned the death penalty, according to the non-profit group Death Penalty Information Center. Three others have moratoriums on it.
Kudos to Washington State! RESIST!! VOTE BLUE!!

(MSNBC Channel): Report: Turks Claim Evidence Of Missing Washington Post Journalist. Who is the worst? It is the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. He has put away hundreds of dissidents, journalists and many other people who dare criticize him. Drumpf does not have that kind of power.

MSNBC: The (alleged) torture and murder of Mr. Khashoggi by the Saudis in their consulate in Turkey as ordered by the Saudi crown prince, who is just as thin-skinned as Drumpf, is an horrendous act and a slap in the face of Turkey. But there’s some irony that the ‘proof’ is now brought to light by Turkish president Erdogan, who is a ruthless dictator in his own right with a terrible human-rights record to boot. And the ‘proof’ can’t be made public because then the world would learn how the Turkish intelligence services listen in on the embassies on Turkish soil. It’s hard to remain optimistic about the state of the world.
MM: The most nauseating bit about these ‘ads’ is that these faces contorted with hatred belong to people who’d run a mile if the saw a fight coming. They are cowards who try to get others to do the dirty job for them and then call themselves heroes while they grab the power with clean hands. These are the faces of the German Nazi leaders, who kept their hands clean while others did the killing for them; these are the faces of the generals in WW I, who enjoyed their tea and biscuits/Kaffee und Kuchen while they ordered their troupes out of their trenches to be shot again and again.

MSNBC — Diaper Don says the relationship with the Saudis is excellent??? Of course it is because he is just like them . . . an authoritarian despot, a fascist! The only difference at this time is that the US is a nation of laws and a constitution that constrains him. But let’s not forget the actions of DD and the Republicans who tore families apart who came across the southern border without the proper documentation. That constraint will not last forever if the Republicans are not defeated soundly! If the Saudi’s can so cavalierly and with seeming impunity murder a journalist, what will happen with people like Raif Badawi and his sister (and many others) who have been unjustly detained for speaking out? I can have no respect for those like the Saudi leadership.
