VOTE BLUE!!

Every week we sign dozens of petitions, bitch about hundreds of outrages, and more.  Several of my Senators’ and Rep’s Aides recognize my voice.  If I had a nickel for every time I’ve bitched about Putin’s Puppet, we could all retire in style.  But we all need to remind ourselves, every day, about the most important things we need to do, as Frank Bruni explains in this editorial.

We got it wrong in 2016. We can get it right in 2018. There’s a far side to this American disgrace, a way to contain the damage, and it’s both utterly straightforward and entirely effective.

It’s called voting. And from now until Nov. 6, we must stay fanatically focused on that — on registering voters, turning them out, directing money to the right candidates, donating time in the right places.

The moral of the Helsinki freak show, the NATO tragicomedy and the children in cages near the border isn’t just that Donald Trump lacks any discernible conscience, real regard for this country or mature appreciation of history and our exalted part in it. It’s that this next election matters — immeasurably.

There’s no hyperbole in the frequent assertion that it’s the most important midterm in a generation. And those of us rightly appalled by this president must devote as much energy to giving Democrats control of at least one chamber of Congress — and the ability to restrain him — as to finding fresh methods for mocking him. A blimp in a diaper is a hoot. A legislature with its foot on his throat is an insurance policy… [emphasis added]

  1. And there was a diary (old habits die hard) over at Daily Kos about something fishy going on with registered voters.  So would be a good idea to check to make sure your voter’s registration is current.

Links for different sites to verify are provided in the diary/post.  Took me less than 5 minutes – and that’s because I forgot I used my legal name, so had to repeat the check.

    • Excellent! Thank you!  Everyone should do this unless they have another way to find out accurately.

My state has its own website, and besides looking things up yo can sign up for some notifications.  We had our primary last month, and I got advance notice that I was registered and the ballots should be mailed such and such date, and what to do if I didn’t get one.  I was also able (thankfully, because car troubles made me later then I intended to be in mailing) to verify that the ballot had been received and accepted.  I’ll be alert for more as November approaches, and I do know how to ask if I need to.

    • I keep it on my calendar to check my registration every October 1. 19

  2. It’s not enough to vote Blue – we need to do our homework, learn about candidates so we can pick the best ones. Still, any ol’ Democrat is almost certainly better than any ol’ Republican. Remember: Losers don’t make policy.

  3. Amen!! AMEN !!!!

BLUE is my favorite color, over red. lol

  4. Glad to see Bruni mentioning the Koch boys, as you might guess!
If his can be the rallying cry for the moment, until we get closer to the elections and somehow make a LOT of noise, that would be great.
VOTE!  VOTE! GET THE WORD OUT! AND REPEAT!

  5. ABSOLUTELY!!!
Please VOTE BLUE – NO MATTER WHO!!!! ?

  6. Time for some Strategic Voting. With over 20 parties to choose from in our general elections, there are times when two major but opposite parties (left and right) are predicted to end up very close. The largest party after the elections will be the one to form a coalition government. If the Dutch on the right or left want to have “their side” to form a government, it is crucial to have the major party on their side win. In that case most will vote strategically and abandon their favourite little party for once for the common good.

If ever there was a moment that Americans needed to vote strategically it is NOW. I know it’s hard to abandon principles; I had to do it once or twice and it isn’t nice, but there’s a very important principle at stake in the US and that is DEMOCRACY. Don’t allow Drumpf and the GOP to turn your country into dictatorship; they’ve already have turned the tables on the judicial branch for a long time to come. VOTE BLUE!

  7. Thanks, hugs and Amen to all! 17
