Short Takes:

From YouTube (Vox Channel): The big problem with comparing Trump to Nixon

They make a huge point. I remember those days, ad it’s easy to forget how little tech we had.  In the year Nixon quit, the electronics we take for granted did not exist. I bought my first computer to calculate astrology charts. It cost $7,000 and had 4k RAM. It’s display was LED. For storage it had a magnetic card reader. The printout was a dot-matrix 2" paper tape. I could create a chart with it, but there’s no way I could create a Republican Bubble Machine. RESIST!!

From NY Times: Just as the women’s marches and #MeToo helped define 2017, the surging numbers of female candidates have defined the midterm races now underway. Yet for all that, the November elections may not produce a similar surge in the number of women in Congress.

More than half the female candidates for House and Senate seats are challenging incumbents, who historically almost always win; there were far more wide-open races in 1992’s so-called Year of the Woman, which doubled the number of women in Congress. A large percentage of the women now running for open seats are in districts that favor the other party. And many female candidates are clustered in the same districts, meaning many will be eliminated in this spring and summer’s primaries.

I agree that women are getting the empty end of the lollipop. Of the Democratic woman candidates for House and Senate, endorsed by Emily’s List, over 75% are in districts considered safe or very likely for Republicans. The wide open races are going to men. RESIST!!

From Crooks and Liars: Boy, it’s been a hell of a week for the NRA’s new president, Oliver North, hasn’t it?

If the notion of celebrating a convicted gun runner for terrorists as the head of the NRA wasn’t enough, Oliver North hit the ground running and setting up exactly who the enemy is.

Horrifyingly, he’s decided it’s the teenagers who survived the Parkland, Florida school shooting. In a wide-ranging interview with The Washington Times, North made it clear that he thinks the whole idea of not wanting to be shot at while attending high school to be entirely…criminal.

Barf Bag Alert!!

North is where Ammosexual and Bullshit artist become one. RESIST!!

  1. 7:48 Mine seems to have been overwrought.

Is there anything WWWendyWW CAN’T do?

Remember Sam Bee’s back-to-back double segment on how difficult it is for women to get treatment on what’s actually wring with them?

Vox – Of course, in those days, those anchors worked their BUTTS off to make sure they VERIFIED their acts and EARNED that trust. And some still do. Especially on MSNBC. But some others too. Poor Bill Moyers. this must grieve him terribly, as a citizen of course, but particularly as a journalist.

NYT – Yes, we have to remember that a lot of the winning these women are doing right now (20 out of 20 the last primary Tuesday) is in primaries. Only one of those was also a special election. Well, getting campaigning experience isn’t a TOTAL loss, and we just have to show them what we’re made of.

C&L – OMG, he’s going to be an “oh, shucks” guy. SO sick. Sorry, can’t finish watching.

Cartoon I – THat is a bit ambiguous. I sure hope it doesn’t pan out the wrong way.

Cartoon II – No, thanks, it’s warm enough here. Not 89, but warm enough.

  2. Vox: Back in the day, I loved listening to Walter Cronkite as a teen, and his ‘Twentieth Century’ show. Definitely not today with the media as it is. Shame too.

NYT: Get out there and vote the repugs out!! Resist them all !!!

C&L: What?? the?? HELL?? Man is done gone loco, imho!!

    Cartoon: Definitely Sad. Cartoon2: Yep.

WOW, Wendy has hidden talents, doesn’t she?? How wonderful, and your haircut looks FABulous!! Had a wonderful day, with friends & family today.
Hope that you have a relaxing evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. Comparing tRump to Nixon is entirely unfair – to Nixon.

Why am I not surprised that an organization as slimy as the NRA would pick a slime like Oliver North for its chair?

Cartoons: I’m sure that is exactly what the Orange Ogre would like to do.

  4. Damn – that’s one fine looking barber!

  5. Another great job by WWWendy!

Vox: Another major difference is the direct control the president himself has of his base, in point ruling it AND the media through Tweets, not only influencing their mindset directly, but also threatening and destroying the life of anyone who’d go against him.

TNY: Politics, even Democratic politics, can be quite disheartening, but women should not give up after just one try. They should realize it’s a men’s world, like so much else is, and that as a block they rather throw female candidates under the bus than give up their own secured winnings. And with that new knowledge and some  elections experience under their belts also fight within their own party for equal chances in elections. Of course it may take a while, and everyone is hoping for a blue wave right now, but it doesn’t mean that it’ll me a male wave forever.

C&L: Is Fox & Friends now trying to put it over their dumb audience that North is wrongfully convicted? One in their audience is now thinking how he can pardon poor Ollie, I expect.

    Cartoons: Sadly: Yep.

  6. 89 glorious degrees, grrrrr, lucky you!!!
    Cool barber!

  7. Puzzle — 4:04  If you try eating this Puddy Tat, you won’t be anemic, that is for sure.  But you sure will have “lead” in your ass!

Vox — There is always a downside to change and it appears that the conservative media found it and exploited it to the max, and continues to do so.  Unfortunately, it has contributed to the dumbing down of America and the growth of fascism.  Seeing the Parkland students stand up to the conservative BS gives me some hope.  May the Republican bubble machine go the way of the dodo bird.  We came close to having our own bubble machine under PM Harper but it was quashed thankfully.

NY Times — I have said for some years now that women can be better political and policy leaders than many men.  Of course there are always women who are contrary — Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee comes to mind.  Although this is a start, women need to build their bona fides.

Crooks & Liars — “North is where Ammosexual and Bullshit artist become one.” — AMEN!!!  IMO, gunrunner is an appropriate title for North.  I am surprised that Drumpf had not tapped him for some position within his régime before this, although it could be said that the NRA is part of his régime.

Cartoons — Too true, too true!!!

WWWendy is soooooooooooooooooo talented!  Is there anything within reason of which she is not capable?  I say within reason because I am sure she is not capable of making or launching a nuclear weapon, not because she does not have the smarts, but because she is so nice.  Well  you were shorn and now this Sasquatch is off to get short too!  I am starting to look scruffy!

  8. As for Wendy, she is certainly a gem.  I wish I could keep her.

    Heat Wave Hugs!
