It’s a comparatively lazy day here in the CatBox, but I do have three articles for you.  Tomorrow will be a little crazy, because it’s a WWWendy day and the highest holy day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb.  As a rule, I root for the AFC, but Trump loves the Patriots, do go Eagles!!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:55 (average 4:48).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (Inequality Media Channel): Trump’s 20 Worst Broken Promises

The Reich on the left is right, but it would be far easier to list the promises that he has kept. That list has zero items. RESIST!!

From The New Yorker: Former hippies across the United States have been put in the unbearable position of rooting for the F.B.I., hippies have confirmed.

From Vermont to California, erstwhile hippies bemoaned a nightmare scenario that has forced them to side with a law-enforcement agency they have despised since the Summer of Love.

“I always dreamed I’d spend my retirement surrounded by my grandchildren, telling them that the F.B.I. were fascist pigs,” Carol Foyler, a former hippie who lives in Santa Cruz, said. “That dream has been shot to hell.”

Her husband, Mick, nodded his head in sad agreement. “We were so happy when pot was legalized in California,” he said. “But the fact that we’re now on the same side as the F.B.I. has ruined even that.”

Dang Andy! As a former hippie, I have to agree! RESIST!!

From Raw Story: [T]he U.S. flu outbreak worsened over the past week as more people headed to doctors’ offices and emergency rooms, with hospitalizations at the highest in nearly 10 years, U.S. health officials said on Friday.

Sixteen children died of the flu in the week ended Jan. 27, bringing total pediatric deaths to 53 for the season, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s weekly report.

Out of every 100,000 people in the general population, an estimated 51.4 have been hospitalized for the flu, surpassing the rate in the last severe season of 2014-2015, when 710,000 were hospitalized and 148 children died. Adults aged 65 or older had the most hospitalizations, followed by those aged 50 to 64 and children below 5.

“So far this year the cumulative rate of hospitalization is the highest since we began tracking in this way,” Dr. Anne Schuchat, acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told reporters on a conference call.

Do you feel safer, because Republicans have cut funding for the CDC? RESIST!!

  1. 4:02 You know it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird, right?

    New (copyrighted) cartoon

Reich – I can hear the “LA LA LA I CAN’T HEAR YOU” from here. But we have to keep pounding.

TNY – Where I was, it was the CIA that got the “fascist pigs” insults. But the point is the same.

Raw Story – Yeah, it’s a bad strain this year. And the most vulnerable people having the tightest budgets doesn’t help at all. Plus, the flu is just one problem, There are others.

Cartoon – Gee, I don’t know … but if you make it, it’s sure to be tsty.

  2. Reich: Yep, ‘they bought it’. Loud and clear! ugh!!

NYer: I almost applied for a job w/the FBI years ago, alongside with a friend of mine who did. She got the job. Time seemed simpler back then. Ahhhh…the life of livin’ easy, and listening to music.
    Uriah Heep 47 years..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j73OsXo19vI

RS: Frightening!! I feel for those folks who have it, and can’t pay the costs. A family member got it, and he was down with it for 3 days. Bad cough, and fever.

Cartoon: Kitty all tuckered out! I think we’re going to a SB party at a friend’s house tomorrow. Not confirmed yet though. I’m w/you, going with Philly. All.The.Way.

***I went to drop off my taxes yesterday, and there was a man sitting there waiting, (and in small talk), said that he voted for Trump. I asked why? He said that he felt that Trump will turn America around for the better. I discussed with him about how dt is, his policies, his marriages, his life, the GOP, collusion with a foreign country in the elections, taxes! and his screwing over the American people to mention a few. He listened, and didn’t say anything. Before he left, he turned around, and shook my hand, and said that his girlfriend said basically the same things, and that he was going home to re-think his thinking about dt. Good for him, I might have saved him! Kudos to his girlfriend too.

Hope that you have a relaxing evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. Trump has broken promises to 99.9999% of the dopes who voted for him.

Flu from Hell: We are overdue for another pandemic like the “Spanish” Flu at the end of WW1. Tragic, bu true.

Cartoon: I get the NSFW reference!

  4. New Yorker: As a former semi-hippie, and one of the people who actually was at Woodstock, in Bethel, this has a strangely true ring!
Reich: That the bozos who voted for this poor excuse for protoplasm could not envision this buggery is amazing to me!
Raw story:  the flu is running through Puerto Rico, where the overall situation is egregiously bad, thank you tDump!

    • You were there too, huh?  I wonder, if we spoke to each other.  I had a WWII Air Force Jacket, several bead necklaces, faded blue jeans, a large brass belt buckle with a marijuana leaf, motorcycle boots and hair that I could sit on. 04

  5. IM: A good albeit depressing reminder by Mr. Reich, but he knows that he needs to convince Drumpf voters to not make the same mistake again, so he addresses them. But Reich also knows they’re never going to watch his videos so he tells his non-viewers: “You bought it.” And that’s the problem, isn’t it. We know Reich is spot on, he knows he’s spot on, and in their hearts Drumpfians know he’s spot on, but the latter will never see his videos and allow themselves to be educated.

TNY: I know exactly how you feel, hippies of the USA. At 62 I’m a just a few years shy of the hippy generation, but I was raised in a country which was, and still is, weary of bureaus like the FBI and especially the CIA, so I had this aversion of the FBI instilled in me too. I now also having to come to terms with defending the FBI and even admitting to a spot of admiration for people like Comey. Very uncomfortable, I can tell you.

RS: But you can feel safer than most, TomCat:

Flu is widespread in 48 states, down from 49 last week, with Oregon reporting less flu activity, the CDC said.

Better take precautions before going out the coming week, TomCat. Otherwise you might end up as dinner yourself.

  6. Puzzle — 3:38  JD, I hope he knows it is a sin because I could not beat him to protect the bird!

Inequality Media — So is anyone surprised by this?  I certainly am not!  This is proof that Drumpf is living in an alternate reality! . . . oh, and that he is the Liar-in-Chief and also holds the dubious title of the Sphincter-in-Chief.  Being “royalty” (only in his reality and that of Republicans!) can be a real bitch can’t it Drumpfy!

The New Yorker — LMAO Andy!  I was and am in a different country, and at the end of that generation.  My mother had me on a short leash . . . I had to fight to listen to the Monkees, and the Beatles etc were not allowed.

Raw Story — A few years back, I just barely missed being admitted to hospital with the H1N1 flu.  That really was ugly.  This year, like the previous years, I had my flu shot.  So far, although I have had the flu, it has not been bad like the H1N1.  Perhaps part of my luck comes from not going out into crowds much.  Mitch, that is horrible news from Puerto Rico! . . . but it does not surprise me since this US “state” is being totally ignored by Drumpf and Republicans since Irma and Maria.  Just more racism from Drumpf and Republicans holding up the restoration of Puerto Rico.  Diseases like the flu and cholera are likely to run rampant unfortunately.  The deaths will be blood on Drumpf’s and Republican’s hands!

Cartoon — Is kitty the meal?  Looks like a pan on a cooking grate that he is lying in.  With all the birds and dawgs you have consumed Puddy Tat, watch out that they don’t come to pick your bones!

Well today is the 1st anniversary of my mother’s passing (actually at 400 hours).  So far, so good for me.  It has been on my mind for a bit so I took to writing about my mother and remembering some of the “crazy” stuff.  I recall TC that you said some time ago that I should write about her for the blog.  That is basically where I’m at and is helping me greatly.

Have fun watching the Super Bowl.  It is not on my radar, but then I don’t have TV.  Having said that, if Drumpf is for something, I’m “agin it”!
